What winger would even produce in this system though. I don't particularly rate any of them, but we play so slowly that by the time they get ball, they have 2 /3 players around them, and no overlapping full back to make any sort of space. Then if they do manage to get a cross in, there is no striker, even when Jackson is fit, he can't head the ball, and his finishing is erratic.

Exactly this. The system we play doesn't even get the best out of the players. I saw Saudi Arabia play with more intensity at the last world cup.

as much as id like to agree, we've been saying this for the last 5 years or so, at some point we cant keep selling our squad and buying a new one every summer
