4 GOOD signings have been made. At a cost of nearly £130m. Is that penny pinching? This desire to spend money because we generate money is ridiculous. Chelsea is not and should not just be thinking of short termism from one transfer window to another. The market is crazy does it mean we have to be crazy with it? With the embarassing riches of players Utd bought last season and with arguably the best manager in the league did they win? Did Pep win it? What's to say we will if we do that? Integrating 4 new players into a wining squad should be ok. It's the players that are loaned out that's the issue and even they can be replaced by youngsters. Time to blood them. Traditionally we haven't even bought big name players in their prime. Most made their name whilst playing for us. We have often bought potential from Drogba to Hazard to Lampard etc. We have bought big names that have flopped including a record striker and broke the English transfer record at the time. I always laugh and say to people who think this way. Your chosen model will not guarantee success. It may guarantee a chance at success. The league wasn't made for chelsea alone. Others should have a bite at the cherry if they can. The embarassing line up of quality managers we had never delivered big ears. A manager we all knew, they all knew wasnt good enough for our level delivered it. If we could spend and didn't buy at all its a different thing. Guess we should just buy Sandro,Bonucci,Belotti,Candreva,Bale and others to know we have been active. Sure I'd like more numbers in if possible. It's not the end of the world if we don't. The squad should be good enough for a title run and at least a QF showing in the champions league. And no its not advocating mediocrity but sensibility and understanding in this crazy market we have now found football to operate in. When a player we don't know (in terms of what he has brought to the game) can be the second most expensive player in the world then we need to take a long hard look at ourselves. It's funny though that all the money isn't used to deliver gains to the fans. Winning a cup isn't a material gain. Sure it's emotional and bragging rights are earned but what does the money give to you in terms of what you pay for the tickets? Could clubs make it cheaper with all the extra money, could you access continental games cheaper because the club will subsidise travel costs to loyal fans. Could they improve you match day experience? Not just the corporate big wigs paying £90k a season for an executive box. Or is it just buy big players that will deliver trophy after trophy for bragging rights? Come on let's look at tangible benefits of the money in the game to us as fans and to sustain the long term goals of the club.

You sound like an Arsenal fan mate.

We might have spent 130m, but that’s only replaced players leaving. We only have 14 players to use as it stands. Do you really think that’s how a club of our current stature should be operating at, knowing we’re expected to challenge on four fronts this season?

The preparation for this season has been piss poor at best and once again we find ourselves having to buy mediocre players at the end of the window just to fill the squad.

Balderdash!

Wonder what sticks and stones we have been filling our squad with on match day.

Tomori, Musonda, Kenedy, Scott for starters.

Can you honestly say that is a bench that the Champions of England should be having at their disposal?

But for many years Chelsea fans have been desperate to see youth get a chance in match day squads, now it's happening and these same Chelsea fans are angry.

You've never heard me ask for this.

They love the idea of being this amazing club that brings players up from about 8 years old to the first team, but in reality, the majority of these players will reach a certain level-a level which is good enough for our reserves, but not for the first team and then get the hump when they are sold/loaned out.

Another week gents and then we can all moan with some justification, I think we will get a couple of squad fillers before the window closes.

Ridiculous that a club of our stature is only looking for "squad fillers" imo.

.... with present squad our best would be top three epl .... uefa group stage .... then conte will be sacked .... then it would be from zero again

Well if he wants to go there then so be it...can't see him winning anything save the odd league cup...but if that's the limits of his ambition then so ahead son...question is why leave Arsenal for the same level of club if not worse?

Save Musonda, None of those are truly anywhere near the first team level. Conte has been forced to put in the youth in match day squads, its not a choice.

Fans have been asking for players who truly deserve it and seem good enough for that opportunity. Players like Chalobah. Who would have been a big asset right now.

Tomori is an U20s World champion not many clubs would worry about having that as 3rd choice RWB and 6th Choice CB in terms of squad depth

And Kenedy whilst very meh has previously looked decent for Chelsea and most clubs admittedly not the elite wouldn't have a problem with him being a squad back up.

Whilst neither are close to first team quality as back up they are passable and Tomori could easily become a very good player.

You're logic is flawed from the beginning, if you spend less than what you sell you have not only not spent but depleted your squad, at the very least in numbers.

Oscar-60

matic- 40

begovic-10

ake-20

there is your 130 million before we talk about the rest of the players we sold or the money we will get for Costa, if he was sold and he will be so it's not speculative then we would have spent about -60 million, expecting to strengthen a squad that was already thin, add in a title defence against greatly strengthened opponents plus Europe in a very tough group, you find it strange for the manager and fans to want to strengthen and to spend money ?

How is Tomori 3rd choice RWB? Azpi (I am guessing he would be the 2nd choice RWB), is already our 1st choice RCB. And thats what our manager is cribbing about too. We need numbers. We have decent versatility among the squad, but we cant call tomori 3rd choice RWB when azpi is already playing on the pitch in a certain position.

As for kenedy, lets not even go there.

Fair enough on Tomori's potential.

Thank you sir. I have come to realise that in the modern game the word fans should have a different meaning. Do this you're darned, don't do it darned anyway.

No loyalty, no understanding, no patience.

I for one will be over the moon if we don't sign anyone and Conte is forced to start integrating the "not good enough youth" into the team as that is the only way they will get a shot.

I will rather they get given a chance and fail to take it than not given a chance at all. I am not saying year on give them important roles but there are 3 players that have been signed of first squad quality, give the opportunity to the young ones I say.

They won't get given a shot, all that will happen is the first team players will get ran into the ground and burn out at the end of the season. We should have capable back up in each position that wouldn't greatly weaken the team when called upon.

I said this twice before and I will say it again we will not sign anyone and if we do it with he last minute of the transfer window it breaks down then club blames selling club to save face

I'd rather we loaned this guy for a year, than spend 30m on Barkley. Then we can assess him and RLC at the end of the season.

Barkley wouldnt cost 30 mill. More like 15

"If the young players are ready and are strong enough to play regularly. Pogba, I repeat, played at 18 for me. Why not this?

"Show me young players who deserve to play regularly for Chelsea, and I'm ready to pick them. Don't forget my first game in Serie A, I was only 16. 16. I'm the first person open to do this because another coach did this with me. But, I repeat, you must have the possibilities to do this. Not to invent [them].

“[Marcus] Rashford. That's one player now who has shown he is strong physically, fast technically, and a really good player. But it's not easy.”

“Now [Andreas] Christensen, after two seasons on loan to develop himself in Germany, stays with us. He has to fight with [David] Luiz, [Gary] Cahill, Azpi [Cesar Azpilicueta], [Antonio] Rudiger to play. But if there is the possibility to play, I'll put him in.

“I'm the first to be ready to do this. But it's very important the young players are ready to play. Otherwise you provoke damage to the players. Also to the club and the team."

“A young player must be ready to play with a great team and play regularly. Usually in this type of football there is a path for the young player. It’s very difficult to see players who are 16, 17, 18 years old playing regularly. They have to develop and come back to play regularly with a great team. This is the right way. I repeat: I like to work with young players. Last season we won the league with players from the Academy and 14 or 15 senior players.”

“If there are young players who deserve to play regularly and give me a good feeling, then why not [pick them]? I put Pogba, at 18, into the team, and for [Claudio] Marchisio. Not a ‘simple’ player. But you must have this type of possibility, [that these] players are ready to play with Chelsea, a great team, otherwise it’s very difficult to make this decision. You must decide if you want to fight for the title or develop your young players. Two different ways.”

So Basically Conte calls the current youth players "not good enough", but according to some, we should simply force him to play them. Meanwhile we have sold Ake, Chalobah, Traore and loaned out Tammy, RLC. Hopefully he keeps his word and when some of the players who have done well on loan (hopefully RLC proves his quality) are given an opportunity.
