August 30, 20178 yr Hello new boy. You'll do well here with that sort of attitude. I've seen most of your posts. I don't really think we will get on. Is "Helmett" the translation of bell-end in your first language?
August 30, 20178 yr 1 hour ago, yorkleyblue said: You make some fair points. However, I come from a generation for whom getting enough points to avoid relegation was the aim every season. I'm loving the ride these days, but don't "expect" success. As far as I am concerned, my aim for this season is exactly the same. A good run in the cup and not losing to Spuds or West Ham is a huge bonus. I'd argue with you about "being outperformed by their peers at other clubs". Our closest rivals last season haven't strengthened at all, City have done what City do, and, under a proficient manager they would walk the quadruple. Luckily, they don't have a proficient manager, so they will still not gel as an outstanding team, but will always be a team of outstanding individuals (and KdB). Last year's fifth or sixth placed team have bought a lot, and are looking good at the moment, but are yet to play anyone of any stature. Scousers - what can I say, this year is their year. Again. They'll run about a lot, and they'll sing their karaoke and be pandered to by the media and witter on mourning dead chickens and they'll come up short again this year, they'll just do it a bit faster up front. BUT, and this is critical, who have any of the top six bought that we would be strengthened by if we had bought them? I'm not up to date on the very latest transfers, but I can't really think of anyone. Could be wrong, though. "Pointing out failures in the window of the board" is both spoiled and ridiculous, in my opinion, and I'll tell you for why. None of us, and no-one in the media, knows what the board are doing in private discussions, who they have and have not attempted to buy, why any such potential transfers did or did not materialise and how much or how little the transfer budget is, or what potential salaries have been offered to potential players. For example, the press had been telling us all this year that we were in for Lukaku, and at at record transfer fee, because it suited their agenda of being able to both take the piss because we had to buy back someone we sold, and also to generate clicks and readers who would swallow this guff. AND, this was while the club and particularly Conte were directly after Moratta, and had given no indication at all that they even wanted Lukaku. The press even invented "rejected offers", much as they have been for other players all this and previous windows. Then, when the player signs for some mid-table northern outfit, the wonderful press can run with their "Chelsea snubbed by....." scenario. Double-bubble win for the scum of the press. Ignore all these "in the know, I have inside sources, I'm special" w**kers and their stories. They know the same as you do, they just have a vivid imagination to make up some possibility or other and a pulpit from which to preach it to people like us, who swallow it as truth because it either reinforces or contradicts our hopes or fears. I think it's called confirmation bias, and that is not a good thing. I agree there is a difference in expectations and somewhat of a generation gap at Chelsea, but Roman bought us to turn us in to an elite club, 5 tiles a CL later that's what we are, it doesn't make sense to become Arsenal and I don't think the owner wants that, I genuinely feel we have been let down by our negotiator. We obviously want the players because we have bid on them, the fact juve were commenting on our bid confirmed this, that's not speculative the manager addressed it in an interview. We are surely trying to be self sufficient and a club that earns like us with our following and a very good team should be able to remain self sufficient while still challenging. The way we churn through young talent for me is brilliant business, it upsets people but it makes us money I'm all for it, my only grievance is this, if marina is instructed to get Sandro level players where are they and to answer your question of which player our rivals bought that would strengthen us where do I start? Bernardo silva ? No let's go with the most obvious any of the THREE wingbacks city bought while we were pissing against the wind trying to get Sandro, expectations or not the board aren't even getting their own expectations and certainly not the managers. I agree loads of speculation and bollox from the media but we have been making bids, that's not a secret yet we don't have players, let's hope we are pleasantly surprised in the next day or two and I'd eat my words and be happy about doing so, again change in direction club should address the fans, in amongst Romans charity that some think of us as we have make him 600-700 million in his asset, us fans, we invest time and money in this recreational habit of ours, want to change let us know it's curiousy for us doing our part. August 30, 20178 yr We're not going to fall out about this, poppet, and I understand where you are coming from. However, my point about other teams' transfers is still valid. City might have bought "three wingbacks" but they won't know how to use them or gel them ionto a team, and I don't think two of them at least would have strengthened our first team. I don't know anything much about Mendy, so can't say about him.
August 30, 20178 yr Mendy is a big strong runner with three lungs and no feet. They vastly overpaid for a mediocre footballer (as usual with City and their defensive acquisitions).

Maybe I come across different in writing than I intend, I don't disagree with a lot of what you say and I'm certainly not trying to argue in any c**ty sort of way, I quite like a lot of your posts to be honest. Like I said just a difference in expectation, could say spoiled could say ambitious, in my twenty odd years as a supporter I've literally spent tens of thousands between flights, hotels, tickets and all the otter associated expenses and there are plenty probably yourself included that have spent more than that over the years so I don't think it's out of order to at least want to know what's going on. As for city and the wing backs I think all three of them would have improved us 2 outright and 1 at the least depth wise, I agree though you could ship Real Madrid to city and they still won't make it work, we can that's why it's frustrating because I'm pretty sure with just a couple of quality signings that we really should be able to afford, we would have a world class team and it's a young world class team, we wouldn't need to spend heavy for a few years and most importantly keep our manager happy, a long term tip coach wouldn't that be nice?
August 30, 20178 yr Not convinced Sanches would improve us much and his primary concern is game time. He'll deffo get that at Swansea, with us it's unliekely.
August 30, 20178 yr @DonAntonio Like you say, a difference in expectation. As for the City wingbacks, I thought Danilo was possibly a bit pants, Walker is sh*te, and someone has just posted an unflattering summary of Mandy for me. So I might disagree that they would have improved us. Even if Danilo would have been an upgrade, didn't he choose City to work with Guardiola?. Anyway, that was one position in one rival's squad. Tell me some more where our rivals have bought people who would have made us better. And, no, don't go off down the Lukaku route, he was here, he wasn't good enough and he was let go. He's still not good enough mentally and doesn't have the fight or commitment I want from my players. Edited August 30, 20178 yr by yorkleyblue
August 30, 20178 yr I keep reading we are working on a few, or many, or several deals but if that comes to nothing then either was our pr department spreading rubbish or a waist of time.

Come to think of it bar city you're right, I think lukaku although not my kind of player will give Utd what they need so will matic, sometimes a player needs a move to refresh we know he has it in him so far he looks like he works for them, looking at their team they will do far better than last season, but they haven't bought any better than us, their existing team is very deep though unlike ours. My issue isn't who we bought it's the fact we needed a bigger squad and have ended up with a smaller squad, we need a couple more to say we have improved, all we have down is like for like replacements, which I think personally are better but it's yet to be seen. Just a wing back and a CM and I'd be chuffed, and where my grievance lies is that we have the money and pull to get them and we have been pursuing players so we have to question why we are 2 days out with no one, I would expect they have to get someone in because we are so thin but we will see who.
August 30, 20178 yr The difference between our squad and rival squads is that they have quality in depth and we don't. In attacking positions we have 4 quality players in Morata, Willian, Pedro and Hazard. We would of looked a heck of a lot stronger if Diego was kept happy. City have 7, Utd have 6. One injury to one of those causes us problems, because then you are left with a situation where you have to start youth. We would all like that to happen and see the likes of Musonda have his chance so he become a world beater but I don't think Conte would want to risk it. I'm all for putting faith in Bats and Musonda but if you want to challenge for the CL and the league title then we have to add quality and maybe even improve on the likes of Pedro and Willian. We won the title last season, as fans it's great to have success and you should cherish it while we have it. As a club you need to build on that success or you will get left behind in a league where clubs out of the top 4 can spend 45 million on a midfielder.

August 30, 20178 yr Looking like it's all going to be done tomorrow. The board must be under intense stress now Chamberlain has rejected us. Kryowiak has joined West Brom on loan, Sanches going to Swansea too. We could have done with these two.

Agree with you that we need more numbers in the attacking front, but the Llorente signing is just bizarre because IMO he only marginally upgrades what we have.
