The problem with Torres is his mentality. When the team is playing well he plays well, when the team is playing bad he is nowhere to be found. Maybe we were spoilt with drogba because he could pull it out of the bag when the team needed it

True but even Drogba went into games with a poor attitude, i would even go as far as to say he sometimes had a worse attitude than Torres. There was plenty of times when i would be complaining about Drogba not showing up to games.

Again true but I feel we need a drogba now. I'm happy Torres is scoring but it is too little too late. He does need to be replaced with someone with a better attitude. Drogba had his lazy games as I called them but he was also unplayable 80 percent of the time

Drogba was the best striker of his generation. Not sure everyone realised it at the time, but he took teams apart single handily -  a legend on & off the pitch.

Nah, 1 of the best, there were a few in my opinion that were better. Drogba didn't score 20+ goals a season on a consistent basis like Henry, Shevchenko, Ronaldo, Villa. Love the guy and at his best he was better than anyone, but he was not the best striker of his generation.

I wish Drogba was 5 years younger, Drogba would be amazing with the players we have now.

I don't consider Ronoldo, or Messi, to be out & out strikers.

Sheva & Henry at their peak were superb, likewise Villa & would add Ibra, Van Niesterlroy & Eto to that list.

If he has a good Club World Cup campaign and if he helps Chelsea bring it to the Bridge it'll make me warm to him a bit more.

He's put in some good shifts this week considering all that has happened and for that he gets kudos from me.

He is the sole reason Benitez is here. Great that he's scoring, but can't forget his comments post champions league & beyond, plus his lacklustre performances since he's been here.

How on earth can you say Torres is the sole reason Benitez is here? That is an assumption, nothing more.

It may well have been a factor in his selection but unless you speak with Abramovich personally you can't really claim to know and regardless it is not Torres fault either way, it is the fault of the man who brought him to the club, ie Abramovich.

Don't really think that bad performances warrant the cheap shots but that's your call I guess.

We know the club are run by morons, but can you say this with certainty? No. Just like we cant say with certainty that RDM was sacked because he didnt play "her".

There are so many potentially stupid reasons for Benitez being here. I'd say the most likely is the club hierarchy are obsessed with finding managers who promise a "system" and some kind of philosphy when they come here. Benitez is the master con man and probably promised the world to an owner and board who were either too entranced or too desperate to say no.

Torres is responsible for alot of bullsh*t since he has come to this club. Alot of angst, missed opportunities, disappointments, etc. He isnt the reason we have a bunch of myopic idiots who cant think past next week in charge of CFC.

Managers were stupidly sacked by this club before Torres, and they will be long after he's gone.

Jose went because he couldn't get a tune out of Sheva.

Of course I can't prove it, but its what most people think.

Someone on here had it right about Torres saying he was glad he was scoring goals, but he's not the sort of player to turn games around when you need him. He plays well, when the team play well. He goes missing when you need fighters.

Most people? And there was me thinking that Mourinho was shown the door as a result of a personality clash between himself and Abramovich.

Yeah but he kicked it off with his comments about players being signed for him, rather than him signing them himself. Not sure if this was a dig at Sheva, or Tal Ben Haim (unbelievable that shower of sh*t ever players for us) & Sidwell (same applies but to a slightly lesser extent).

Maybe so, but you can't really put that down to "failing to get a tune out of Sheva." Knowing Jose as we do, a clash of egos seems far more feasible, wouldn't you say?

I'm not sure why we signed Ben Haim - desperation, old pals act perhaps? - but I'm pretty sure that Sidwell was signed primarily with the home grown rule in mind.

Why do you think he was signing players like Ben Haim or Sidwell in the first place? He was told to win on a budget and replied by signing anything he could get on a free.

If we wanted to tie the sacking of every manager to a failure of a player, I bet we could. But why did Carlo or AVB get sacked? The club is run by an impatient owner who has no patience for the long term.

He plays well and scores another brace and this thread is just the same with cheap shots and slurs.

Because he is now doing better he will no doubt get stick as it's under tFSW!

Pretty sad really.

I thought it was actually a novelty to see a Torres thread branch out into a discussion of other players rather than the situation we've become accustomed to whereby every other thread descends into yet another excuse for a bout of Torres bashing, usually featuring the usual suspects vyng to outdo each other in the Torres bashing stakes.

Yeah perhaps, its not as clear cut to me as the Torres issue here. I'm having this discussion (more of an argument) on another thread, but I honestly think the clubs management thought Rafa + Torres = dream ticket. Rather than seeing what is abundantly clear to all, which is Torres is never going to recapture his Liverpool form.

A positive performance today to follow the one in the champ league. Should have had a hatrick when he was unlucky to see his shot hit the upright, and showed balls to step up and be counted for the penalty (even if in this instance i think he was foolish to take it - if we were 3 up and cruising, then let him have a go, but to grab the ball away from established takers to step up for your first pen in English footy was risky!)

2 good performances in a week, and 4 goals and an assist to show for it. It doesnt need me to point out again that the opposition are hardly the best, and today we faced a poor sunderland team with a very real prospect of relegation. That said, they all count, and we can only beat what is infront of us.

Good work Nando, and keep up the performances over in Japan and beyond.

The teams might not have been the best, but the goals were nice. Very secure penalty as well. And his shot when Mata scored was really close to going in and that would have been a most excellent goal.
