Fernando Torres has been lauded for his defensive qualities by Chelsea manager Rafael Benitez.

"The main thing is what you can see as a manager on the pitch and training sessions and he is doing well," Benitez said. "He scored a lot of goals in training today. He is a great player and if he is the right positions they will play with him and if he's not they won't.

"It's not just scoring goals. If you analyse the corners (against us) he was amazing, two or three times clearing the ball. He was helping the team defend. But as a striker you want him to score goals."

He has been here 2 years come Jan.

Still think we should try a Torres + Cash for Falcao, everyone would be happy then I would guess, except maybe Atl Madrid if he still fails there!

I dont think Madrid would ever do that deal. I would love it if they did, but I very much doubt it. Unless we pay through the nose for Falcao and Torres is going to take a massive paycut.

The only hope for Torres is another wealthy club (thus they can afford an expensive failure) who is looking to raise their profile.

-Paris St Germain (dont need him)

-Anzhi

-Zenit St Petersburg

-Shaktar (noticing a pattern here?)

-Malaga (prob the best bet, but now looking increasingly unlikely)

-AC Milan if this chinese ownership deal goes through (they dont need a bigger profile, but need to reverse the trend of losing stars)

He had a shot and hit the bar Torres Torres
He tried again and hit a car Torres Torres
He runs around and has a sweat
But never hits the f*cking net
Fernando Furlong
Chelsea’s new Robert Fleck

Maybe we should try Fernando in the double pivot then? He couldn't do a worse job than he does up front right now.

Aren't Malaga broke?

I thought their investers pulled out or something so they had to sell their best players? Cazorla, Rondon etc etc

Ah don't feel too worried guys. I remember Torres saying back in 2010 that he wanted to see out his contract at Liverpool. And...well, that didn't work out.

There's no way he'll be here till 2016.

I've always liked Fernando Torres and he's one of my favourite players, but Chelsea doesn't suit him and he would be better off leaving and going back to Spain. He's been at the club for 22 months which is pretty much 1.84 years and he hasn't performed to the level we've expected of him. I've seen glimpses of his old form during rare moments, but he hasn't looked like the player we all hoped for when we first signed him. To be honest, I advocated for his signing even though he was struggling at Liverpool at the time. I thought sometimes a player of such a high calibre needs a fresh start elsewhere and I thought he and Drogba would have a dominant partnership. I've stuck by Torres throughout the times when he's been bagged by others in the last 22 months, but there comes a point where you cannot defend him anymore. He hasn't adapted to Chelsea and I think he knows it.

He's lost his pace, his positioning on the ground is awful, his confidence and morale is at an all-time low, the playing style Chelsea initiates does not suit him and the support around him isn't great either. I just wonder whether Torres would have been a much better player if he was playing for us 5 years earlier. I guess we'll never know.

It's sad for Fernando that his career is at the crossroads, but I think he needs to move to rejuvenate himself. Sometimes things don't work out according to plan.

I dont think he is clever enough to adapt his game. He has lost his pace and cant adpat to become an effective player again in England. Maybe join a slower league or and easier league and he will do ok. PSG would be a good fit for him and they would pay big wages but why on earth would they want him when they already have a world class striker who is actually scoring goals.

The Russian league is another option but i cant see him wanting to go there.

I wouldn't agree with that at all Uno, in fact I think he has tried to adapt his game, and if you look at him now compared to when he first arrived he is doing much more on the pitch, and has adapted himself into a player that comes deep for the ball.

The problem is not one of adaption, it is either confidence or ability, as I personally think that form is temporary and ability permanent, I'd say that his confidence is shot to bits in terms of goal scoring, and I'm not sure it will ever come back while he is with us.

For the sake of his career I think it would be better for him to move on.

getting a bit silly now, surely we have officially ran out of things to praise him on now.

Says it all really when the only positive for a striker is his defending. His defending was not as good as schevchenko either. Never forget that line clearance by Sheva.

Sheva was far worse than Torres not that it's something to brag about.

Over £100 million on fees and wages for both and look what we got!

You have to laugh...
