You can't expect someone who has no match practise to come in and play like he's never been out.

Match sharpness is vital

Playing out from the back has never been his strong point. Having said that, arguably 4 people (Luiz, Rudiger, Andreas and Ampadu) should all be ahead of him so we don’t really need to replace him. 

Sarri finally confirmed he’s still our captain, the players supported him and he’s important for him on & off the pitch.

Captain. Leader. Leg-end. 

A bit odd decision considering that he won't be playing big games anymore...at least he hasn't done it. But totally deserved if this will be his last season.

His career is coming to an end, didn't expect him to contribute as much as he did when we signed him. Sarri is saying the right thing, he's likely to be influential in the dressing room, let him conclude his Chelsea career with respect.

I find the whole captaincy thing abit confusing. Why has it taken sarri so long to select a captain only to revert to Cahill who was already captain? 

Clearly some politics behind the scene. Strange.

I think they were hoping to use the captaincy as an incentive to Hazard as part of a new contract.

So if Hazard has told the club he doesn’t want to discuss a new contract right now it means we should resolve the captaincy question.

That said, being captain means so little nowadays. The armband gets passed around so much it dilutes any meaning it holds. 

This season Dave, Cahill, Willian and I think Fabregas have all worn it and we’ve only play about 13 games.

Sarri has said before he doesn’t consider the captain thing really means anything. I don’t think it mattered to him.

Great statement by Sarri. Everybody with a brain has been wondering why the heck Azpilicueta was wearing the captain's badge. 

So basically Azpi is our captain except for about 5 games a season.

Are you actually trying to break some record of posting the most wrong things on a single forum?

Clearly he wants Hazard to be captain but with his contract situation, it’s a delicate/political decision. 

Carrying the captaincy surely pays more money so maybe the club are using it to entice Hazard.

I don’t think it does. They’d be getting a bonus for wiping their own assholes soon...

Might also want Cahill to remain as a squad player after the Christmas transfer window.

Not even rival fans dislike Azpilicueta, so to see a Chelsea fan have a problem with him is just bizarre. For 6 years years he has been one of our most consistent players, he comes across like he loves playing for the club, there's never been any trouble with him, he comes across as one of the most likeable players in the game.......and he has an amazing smile  How is it possible to dislike the guy?

I don't dislike him, he is just not captain material. I've already explained why.

And the fact he is not playing well has nothing to do with my feelings. I ain't the typical biased Chelsea fan judging by his feelings about this guy or that guy. He ain't playing well at the moment, he ain't good captain due to his behaviour and that's it.

Looks like he's gone in January for sure. A real pro. I bought my son a Cahill Jersey about 4 years ago, because I respected the big center back. Never the most talented, but always one of the most dependable. 

A loan in January, is basically a free before his contract is up. Isn't this basically what we did with Ivanovic too?
