July 2, 201313 yr Depends on weather Oscar or KDB play deeper or not. True, true. Matic on the other hand is whole different kind of player, and increased interest in van Ginkel has nothing to do with Matic not coming. Compared to Bayern, Lampard and van Ginkel play Scweinsteiger's role and Matic plays Javi Martinez's.
July 3, 201313 yr Certainly, he already has great size and while he's not exceptionally strong now, it's not hard to imagine him having a similar build to Ballack in four or five years. He has deceptive pace and a terrific engine and I see him in the mould of a Lampard or Gerrard. Comfortable in possession too and a solid range of passing. As for his defensive ability, after watching a few games in the summer and Vitesse earlier this year, I wouldn't say that he leaves a lot to be desired. His tackling has improved greatly and he shows a superb amount of discipline and defensive awareness for his age. He makes vital interceptions which can prompt quick counters. He already plays deep for Vitesse and that's where he would presumably play for us, should we sign him. Edited July 3, 201313 yr by Teritus

I read that he played deeper that Strootman and Maher and did well even though he's more of a box to box midfielder. I never saw him play once though.
July 3, 201313 yr This has probably already been mentioned, but is not just a slightly better McEachran?
July 3, 201313 yr This has probably already been mentioned, but is not just a slightly better McEachran? Well judging him on the Euro under 21's and what i have read he scores goals, makes tackles,is quicker has better stamina and much more so i'd say hes more than slightly better.
July 4, 201313 yr @chelseafc: Chelsea FC and Vitesse Arnhem have reached an agreement for the transfer of Marco van Ginkel: http://t.co/soX6JDlaDa #CFC
July 4, 201313 yr I'll be honest I know nothing of him! Wonder if he's a Mourinho target or Michael Emenalo's? Either way another young promising player, and I read previously he didn't want the transfer unless he got game time so where will he fit in and who will he likely replace?
July 4, 201313 yr Will he stay or will he be loaned out? I won't be surprised if he plays in Germany (Bremen, Leverkusen...) this season.
July 4, 201313 yr Has anyone seen him play, would really like to know how good of a prospect he is? Edited July 4, 201313 yr by Mamizcar
July 4, 201313 yr I think he might stay, it looks like we may be in the process of changing our bench more than our first team at the moment, letting high paid elder players leave and replacing them with lower wages and hungry youth.
July 4, 201313 yr The depth of the squad was rubbish last season so I think the club are addressing that. Malouda and Benayoun have been released and I imagine their combined wages was in the region of £150k a week. In comes KDB and van Ginkel to replace them and I bet their combined wages are closer to half that of the released players.

I never saw him play once though. Strootman was the deepest in their 4-3-3, Van Ginkel played a box to box role alongside him and Maher. Really happy that we've got him now and it's always great to see us moving so efficiently in the transfer market this early on.
July 4, 201313 yr This kind of signing reminds me so much of Jose`s first time round with us, swapping out older players for young and hungry ones. Great to see.
July 4, 201313 yr Good news! I think he'll be a squad player if not loaned out..? Checked his stats from last season in Eredivisie: played/started 33 matches, scored 8 assisted 8 had 53 shots on goal. He played behind Wilfried Bony who won the golden boot with 31 goals in 30 games. In comparison Christian Eriksen had 10 goals and 13 for Ajax although the players are not like for like. http://msn.foxsports.com/foxsoccer/eredivisie/stats?table=offensive&stat=assists Edited July 4, 201313 yr by evissy
July 4, 201313 yr It makes me laugh when people talk about our aging squad. Terry,Lampard and Cole are always mentioned but we have one of the best young squads in world football. Cech already has a replacement and Cole aside so do the others. If JM stays he could build a great team that could stay together for 4-5 yrs growing and getting better and better, which makes me wonder how does FFP work. Potentially our squad wont need much work in the coming years all going well and all players reaching potential. Obviously no top side stands still and will always add 1 or 2 even if its just to freshen up the squad and keep them on their toes. But regarding FFP, lets say next summer we have £70m to spend basis our turnover etc etc. We only spend £20m on a say for example a world class left back(just an example no disrespect to Bertrand a good cover player but the jury is still out IMO as to whether he will be Cole's long term replacement) does that mean we can have a 'rollover' on the other £50m and have say using the same numbers £120m the next summer???? July 4, 201313 yr I'm f**king delighted. Next get him into the first team, none of this loan rubbish. Edited July 4, 201313 yr by Remodez
July 4, 201313 yr I'm f**king delighted. Next get him into the first team, none of this loan rubbish. I know nothing about this lad apart from his brilliant name. Very close to Marco van Basten. As you all know "Basten" is dutch for "brilliant volley goals" and Ginkel is dutch for "goalscoring midfield motor". I know Val can confirm this Is he quality enough for the first team though?
July 4, 201313 yr Dont really know him at all. I have faith in our scouting, connects with Vitesse, and in the Special One that we could have a solid signing here. Going by what's been said about this chap. Hope all goes well.

Adapting may be hard but biased solely on ability he would walk into the team as it currently stands (and I think he knows it himself otherwise he wouldn't be asking to be played and not loaned) or probably rotate with KDB for the CM role, depends on where KDB will be used mainly by Jose.
July 4, 201313 yr Or the Ramires thing is true and Van Ginkel De Bruyne and Lampard are competing for the cm role, highly doubt it but expect to see the papers going for: Ramires place in the team in jeopardy and is pushing for a move. As the Van Ginkel deal leaves him doubting his place in the team he desperately wants first team action. Chelsea are considering involving him in a swap deal with Cavani as Rafa Benitez is a known admirer. Ramires is desperate to force his way back into Scolari's reckoning for the world cup and so on.
