But how many of you lot have been whingeing all season that Matic just isn't good enough?

He'll improve Utd defensively but that isn't where they struggle. They struggle to score and Matic will just make that worse with his one dimensional football. Let him go for £40m+

But, if he's as pants as some posters in here would have you believe, he would weaken their squad, not strengthen it.

Doesn't matter if he wasn't good enough in a midfield 2 here. He could improve them in a midfield 3 with Herrera and Pogba either side of him as has been pointed out. He's been awful for us lately but Jose will use him as a DM which frees the other two to go forward more, Pogba especially. Don't give a rival team what they want or make it easier for them. If they offer silly money for him, 40m then by all means yes but they'd just buy someone else in that case.

Keep him and worse case we sell him on for less next summer to someone else. It is a two way street but I have a hard time believing some club outside England wouldn't be interested in him for a reasonable price

Unfortunately, we have to sell him this summer. He can be great DM for top teams and we can make a good deal.

Exactly the reason to not sell him.

Selling him to united to make a midfield 3 of Herrera-matic-pogba would be like giving united a massive push for the title.

I have always felt that matic would be great as a DM in a 3-man mid, where he can just sit in front of a 4 and let the likes of cesc/pogba concentrate on attacking.

Selling him to united would be a massive mistake.

I would keep him, because I feel Conte WILL move to a midfield 3 (3-5-2), which would suit matic and cesc far more as well as our new rumored buys - bakayoko and tolisso.

Surprised he would want to play for Jose again. Jose seem to completely rob him of his confidence in the last half a season.

Not a fan of selling to United unless it's ridiculous money. Though I don't believe he will add too much to the United squad.

I wouldn't be letting him leave and I certainly wouldn't be letting him join United.

We perhaps need more depth to cover and injury to Kante (although I'm a fan of Nat).  But Matic is a good player getting back towards his best. His first half of the year in particular was great.

A midfield of Kante, Matic, Fabregas, Nat plus one more (looks like Bakayoko but I would prefer someone with a better first touch) will be very solid.

I'm of the opinion that, if he's useful enough that we should not be happy to take United's money, then we should be keeping him.

I find the idea that we should not sell to them because they (supposedly) would not sell to us a bit childish. Football is business and it's not like there's loads of European clubs fighting to sign him.

By selling Matic to United, we will take a good money for a player, that is on a regress, since 2014-2015.

Not very good technically and have only 1 leg and always slow our attacking game and will be 29 in 1 month.

We can make 20-30mln. from him, as well as stop them to get better midfielder then Matic.

So i`m pretty much for to sell Matic to United.
You should not sell your best player to rivals. Players that are good and can get better.

So if they send 20-30mln. offer i`m in for it.

Football is a business, but surely part of that is not strengthening your rivals or increasing the chances of doing that.

Pretty sure we could have sold the likes of Mata and Cech elsewhere.

You also have to consider the player's wishes. You can't force them to go abroad. And United and Arsenal have hardly been setting the PL alight as a result of us selling to them.

Edit - my preference would be to keep him. The fact that people are worried about him strengthening United clearly shows that he can be of some use to us, and if we can get him playing anywhere close to his best then he will be invaluable.

I dont think this 2 helped them much. And i just don`t see how Mantic will strenghthening them.

But if we pass, they could go for better midfielder, and then they will become stronger, and we won`t recieve 20-30mln.

So selling him to United is a perfect business.

Mata was one of the world's best players for us, what a little magician. I was devastated when we sold him to United (Im still annoyed with Jose for that) He hasn't really made a big effect at United.

I don't know how old he is but I'd love to see him back here, he's a joy to watch. Mata and Fabregas in the same side... Yes please.

I liked that football too yet the part I recall was under Benitez and for me Mata shined with the tiki-taka type football with lots of interchanges around the opposition box between him and the likes of Hazard, Oscar. He has a good ability to score from carefully times midfield runs.

I actually don't think he will play that much this season with Utd strengthening yet not sure with the style we will now play if Mata would improve us, things have moved on.

Tottenham's Eric Dier and Nemanja Matic at Chelsea are other midfield options said to be under consideration as United look to strengthen this summer. Reports that the latter has already verbally agreed personal terms have been dismissed by the club.

£40mil-£50mil would be a good price for Matic and I don't think we will settle for just Bakayoko if that happens. My hope is to have him replaced by Ousama Dembele and have us play 3-5-2 more (Kante-Bakayoko-Dembele).

You couldn't possibly be talking about the same Ousmane Dembele who's a forward, right? Or is there another player named 'Ousama Dembele' who's a midfielder?
