Steve Clarke return?

Featured Replies

After his sacking as West Brom manager a couple of hours ago is there any chance he might come back as an assistant? Wonder if his input might boost our chances this season?

He's spread his wings now, I can't imagine he'd be content to be an assistant anywhere, even under José again. He did a good job, has a good reputation and has a fair few decent scalps under his belt (win at Old Trafford, fairly sure he beat us a couple of times). I'm sure he'll get a job as head coach somewhere in no time.

phuck the baggies - I guess their owner likes firing Chelsea Old Boys - the worse thing about WBA is when CFC loses away to WBA our gaffer gets the sack - cursed team

We already have about 4 coaches, no need to add any more however romantic it may sound.

Agree he'll get a job somewhere else soon. WBA have only won 7 games this year incidentally.

I really wonder what clubs like West Brom expect from there manager with a small budget.

Spot on. I hope they get relegated now. He did fantastic with a crap team & Lukaku last year, not sure who will replace but they won't do as well as last year...

Idiots.

I feel bad for Clarke. Really, what do they expect? They will soon realise what they had, now that he is gone.

He will bounce back and West Brom will fare no better.

Feel bad for Clarke. He is a great man and knows football. He basically lost Lukaku and he slipped into trouble. Everton gained a lukaku and they look like title contenders.

He will not come back but I hope he does well what ever he does in the future.

Think Clarke did a fantastic job with them last season, that said he did have Lukaku, West Brom can't expect him to do the same without an in-form striker, before I had a liking for the club because Clarkey is such a legend, now I don't care for them one bit.

He's a manager in his own right now, can't see him taking an assistant job again. Then again, RDM took assistant after a spell of managing, so how knows.

Don't see him coming back, not to be an assistant anyway.  And as BJD stated, we've already got 4 assistant coaches, so I don't see any room for Clarke.

Worryingly, the other rumour is that Robbie DM may be going back to WBA?  However, what is putting them off is the compensation they'd need to pay Chelsea to get him!?

Get Clarke in I say, he will sort out the defenders. Need somebody to do it because Jose and his assistants obviously can't ..

He will prob get the West Ham job when the obese Allardyce is sacked

What a strange comment, of all the fitting and insulting names you could opt for where Alardyce is concerned to call obese seems......well odd!

Can't see Clarkey going back to being an assistant yet, he worked to hard to get the top job.

I'm sorry, is Allardyce all of a sudden a model of fitness and diet? Does he no longer have 6 chins? By your offense I assume you must be a porker yourself. Put down the fork.

Your all charm aren't you.

We could really do with him back but i dont see it happening. It was different when Robbie came in as the assistant to AVB. AVB was young and the board probably felt that two heads were better than one but I cant see them offing Steve a job with Jose in charge. I think it would help us a hell of a lot but i just dont see it happening.

As for Robbie i hope he doesnt go back to west brom, he can do better than that. They are a sinking ship, they wont find a better manager than Steve. They have no money and are moaning because the wages are too high. I expect them to go down now. Palace are picking up pace as are one or two others down the bottom so i think West Brom will get sucked down.

Clarke was right royally screwed over by West Brom. I thought it was ludicrous when, at the start of the season, my Baggies-supporting mate was concerned Clarke would not last the season. He said that while he Clarke was evidently a great manager the expectations he had now set weren't backed by the club financially or otherwise and that Clarke would be sacked if and when things turned south or that he would jump ship for a bigger club.

In retrospect I agree with him and I think the mood among the Baggies fans is one of frustration towards the club not being able to build on the expectations of the season prior. The reality is that commercially West Brom will never be a top 6-10 club, they simply don't have the financial backing for sustained progression, yet the management of the club were greedy with success and scapegoated Clarke over it.

Clarke was a victim of his own success, he guided them to their best ever Premier League finish and because he wasn't matching that again this season he's gone.

This is where Everton went right with Moyes, they stayed patient and let him build his own squad and he introduced stability there.

Say what you want about how he is doing at United now but he introduced a stability at the club whilst at Everton and Martinez inherited them in good shape.

I agree. I thought Everton would get relegated this season but i have been proved wrong. He has actually showed what the team can do without Moyes holding them back in a way. Saying that West Brom did fantastic with Lukaku so lets see how they do next season without him.
