March 1, 201412 yr Always liked schurrle and for me although him and willian play in the same position they are different players. Love willians workrate and touch but schurrle gives us a direct option and will track back as well. Hopefully his performance today will earn him more starts. Him and willian are more than capable of rotating therefore keeping themselves fresh. Not sure what schurrle had done wrong to warrant such little game time before wednesday. The people slagging him off should hang there heads in shame. Has done nothing to warrant such stick from our own fans. Was always going to be rusty after not playing really for 2-3 months but fans love to jump on players backs.
March 1, 201412 yr I remember watching him for the first time in August 2011 playing for Germany, he scored a sensational goal against Brazil--always knew he'd be a good player. Even so, I think he has the potential to become a top class player, he just needs to keep working hard and use someone like Ronaldo as motivation.
March 1, 201412 yr I don't know why he hasn't been playing more to be honest, I really like his attitude. He may not be a great footballer like Hazard and Oscar but he's got great drive and is very amibitious. He isn't a consistent finisher mind, that was one of his problems at Laverkusen, he is the type of player to score a hattrick every now and then instead of scoring consistently every game. Hey but still much better than any of our forwards
March 1, 201412 yr Just saw some comments regarding the guy about his time in Germany and the NT. Apparently Schurrle, although he scores a lot, tends to score in spurts rather than consistently each game. So he'll get a hat-trick here and there which would add to a good goal tally. Would be better if it was once every game though or something though! But hey, he's great at finishing. Edited March 1, 201412 yr by MANoWAR
March 1, 201412 yr Fulhams defence is pretty poor but even so, Schurrle was in the right place at the right time for each one of those goals. That's the clinical finishing we have been lacking for much of the season. Well pleased with his performance today.
March 1, 201412 yr Not been Schurrle's biggest fan as a winger. But the second half made me think maybe he isn't a winger. Look at the second goal very closely. Watch Schurrle's movement and contrast it with Torres. Tell us what you see. Perhaps we do have a centre forward after all?

March 1, 201412 yr Just another word on Shurlle and for those that don't believe he should be an option up frount. His general work when in possession isn't as good as the others we have in that position. What he does have is very good of the ball movement and an eye for goal... these are attributes you think of when you are talking about a forward. Also when I think about goals we have got this season from players attacking the front post or the 6 yard box in general I can only think of Shurlle (credit to torres for the cross) at city ...

March 2, 201412 yr Not been Schurrle's biggest fan as a winger. But the second half made me think maybe he isn't a winger. Look at the second goal very closely. Watch Schurrle's movement and contrast it with Torres. Tell us what you see. And the finishing... so cool and composed and frankly striker-esque. Something we've lacked up front all season.
March 2, 201412 yr Torres only starts moving when the ball is nearly in the net! There was no reason Torres did not make the same run himself, just goes to show he is not with it.
March 2, 201412 yr He reminds me of Klinsman, and he wasn't to shabby, if he bulks up a bit, he will be a fabulous acquisition, movement, pace, and a natural eye for goal, you cannot make. Definitely play him through the middle, hate to say it, Mata would of loved to have time on the pitch with him..
March 2, 201412 yr Well just the other day I read comments on here that he is the present day Kalou! Had a good chuckle at the time and laughing even harder now. Been impressed with Schurrle and how direct he can be, the fact he headed the ball and ran across the defender towards the goal today rather than carrying on down the wing showed his attacking instinct at it's best. He seems passionate and puts plenty of effort in, has pace and can put the ball away. I'm surprised Mourinho hasn't done everything in his power to make him our first choice striker. But for now it's just good to have another player who's likely to be full of confidence for the remainder of the season.
March 2, 201412 yr We arn't asking you because Schurrle is a great player . Offers something different for us and seems to be prepared to fight hard for the blue shirt . He'll have his day . I do partly agree with you on Marin though . Sorry I need to have a wee brag here . "He'll have his day" I said a month ago on here to some hatred . In saying that - lets not turn this into a bash Willian thread . It's not a matter of who should be starting , it's a matter of them both being able to offer this team something different when required . Schurrle and Hazard were the difference today . Willian and Oscar were the difference when they came on against Southhampton . The important thing is that going forward we continue to have these options so that if someone is having an off day someone else can deliver what is required . March 2, 201412 yr There was no reason Torres did not make the same run himself, just goes to show he is not with it. Schurrle had the momentum after a give and go with hazard... In this instance, Torres really couldnt have made it. That said, Schurrle's movement is fantastic and a lot better than Torreswho isn't bad against teams playing high lines. He will however, just as Torres does, find it hard against a deep defensive line. Edited March 2, 201412 yr by ashwinv
March 2, 201412 yr Had a poor first half IMO but worked well to turn it around in the second half, needs more time on the pitch to see what the EPL is about, hopefully jose rotates him often to get the game time as the last two games the current selected squads looked very tired, we need good form all round if we going to challenge for EPL and CL
March 2, 201412 yr Secobd half performance was sublime, hopefully as I said in the match forum he ends up been consistently good and not another Kalou. I really think next season will make or break him. It also seems to me that Jose is looking more likely to freshen the team up in these final weeks. Maybe Salah can get some proper game time in a week or two. Edited March 2, 201412 yr by Bobbywoodhogan
March 2, 201412 yr It has to be said his performances to date have been mixed. His first half against Fulham was poor and I wouldn't have been surprised to have seen him not on the pitch second half. Then a great display of movement and finishing. I am not convinced he has the touch and skill to break down a packed bus parking defence at the bridge but given a bit of space he obviously can be lethal. It's very early days to judge though and with that hat trick he has surely earn't himself some more future game time. It will give him some confidence that will hopefully allow him to develop into a chelsea favourite, there's plenty of past ones who've taken a while to bed in. As with all new players it's up to us to support them and give them a fair go.
March 2, 201412 yr Schurrle had the momentum after a give and go with hazard... We were on about the second goal, not the first goal, go watch.
