April 12, 201610 yr I'm among the minorities who still believe JT will get another year because of Conte. Having played at the top level for so many years, Conte knows the importance of experience and leadership, realistically we don't have any leaders right now. Retain JT, get the backing of players and support from the fans would be a pretty good start for the new manager.
April 12, 201610 yr With this injury, there is the possibility that JT has already played his last game for Chelsea. I really hope not
April 12, 201610 yr Lets hope its not. Would love to see him play another year. Best defender we have ever had, still by far the best defender at the club. Theres only one England captain. Legend
April 13, 201610 yr Hope he gets a new contract he deserves it more than any other. I always wanted him to retire at Chelsea and be one of the greatest one man - club players ever
April 13, 201610 yr With this injury, there is the possibility that JT has already played his last game for Chelsea. I really hope notThat's my thought too. Achilles tendon injuries are the absolute worst. I can't think of an athlete that has really fully recovered from one albeit it sounds minor rather than a classic career ending Achilles tendon rupture. What about a testimonial game? April 13, 201610 yr What the club should do is give JT a contract. Simple as. Stop trying to put the decision on Conte when you didn't do the same with Ivanovic and just give the man a contract. Then...... In June 2017 when the Bridge is scheduled to be demolished, you make the last ever match a testimonial not just for JT but for Frank Lampard and you invite Ashley Cole, Didier, Petr, Joe Cole, Maka, Essien, Ballack, Jimmy Floyd, Ruud, Sparky, Frank LeBouef, Marcel, the Blues Brothers, Kev Hitchcock, John Spencer, Eidur, Arjen, Damien Duff, Luca and anyone else I've forgotten and you play a game against either an international XI (managed by Jose) or Rangers or whomever and you donate every single penny to the Chelsea Royal Hospital who help the Pensioners. You send JT off properly. You send the players off properly. You give the fans a chance to say thanks. You send the ground off properly. And this probably won't happen at this club. The thought of such a game sends chills down my spine! I think we have enough legends that we could field more than one side. Perhaps play a two leg testimonial against another club doing a testimonial. That way we can play all the legends. If any players played for both clubs, they could play one leg for one club and the next leg for the other club. What a wonderful gesture this would be for both the players and the fans. Outstanding public relations as well. Perhaps they could have one testimonial match every 10 years for all the legends who have retired during that time. Testimonials for one particular player sort of miss the point of teamwork. Edited April 13, 201610 yr by offside

April 13, 201610 yr The way the club disposed of Lampard was shameful. They weren't willing to offer a contract even though Lampard told them he would take a much reduced salary. Some nonsense about "moving on". While I've always held this view, I haven't gotten really worked up about it until now with this discussion of testimonial games. Stoke are giving Andy Wilkinson a testimonial game shortly after the last game of the season. West Ham recently gave Mark Noble a testimonial. In both cases many former prominent players were/are playing, allowing the fans to express their appreciation of not just the testimonial player but of other past club members. Yet the only opportunity our fans got to show appreciation for Frank Lampard was when he returned as a Manchester City player. It's a f**king disgrace.
April 13, 201610 yr ...the only opportunity our fans got to show appreciation for Frank Lampard was when he returned as a Manchester City player. It's a f**king disgrace. His career isn't over yet, so maybe Frank doesn't want one until he retires.
April 15, 201610 yr As I get the impression that NO ONE loves Chelsea as much as JT, I would be shocked if he doesn't return to the club after his playing career. Where do you see him in the club's future? A lot of people are saying manager, but I'm not sure I want to see JT there because of our record (which is definitely not unique in football these days) of sacking managers quickly. Even if JT is an excellent manager, which I expect he will be, he'll still inevitability get sacked. It was really sad to see Garry Monk go through that at Swansea, so I'm worried about JT being manager. Academy director perhaps? Based on what the youth players have said, it sounds like JT has a real passion for developing and mentoring youth and that he would really enjoy the job.
April 15, 201610 yr It's a fact that JT is doing his coaching badges, and he takes a massive interest in the Youth players in the Academy.......so the obvious job the club should offer him is ............Assistant Academy Coach.......but he has stated that he wants to carry on playing.........so sadly in the absence of a contract extension offer , he will be departing Chelsea for pastures new .......probably To play in Qatar with a club there managed by Zola. But I hope he returns to Chelsea as a coach in our academy obviously when he hangs up his boots.
April 15, 201610 yr Knowing JT as we do.......once he decides to hang up his playing boots, and gets on the coaching ladder in the Youth academy, it won't take him long to climb up the ladder to hopefully eventually lead him to become Manager of Chelsea football club. It would be great to see JT as Manager in 2020 in our newly developed 60,000 capacity stadium.

It would be great to see JT as Manager in 2020 in our newly developed 60,000 capacity stadium. That's what I thought at first, but upon more thought I wouldn't want that to happen. I never want JT to be in a position in which fans are calling for him to be sacked and the board carries through on that. He should be offered a job that he can reasonably expect he will be able to hold for as long as he wants.
April 16, 201610 yr I reckon there's more chance Ivanovic will be Chelsea manager before Terry ;) I believe JT will/could be a great coach, according to the youth team players he already is. A manager, I'm not that sure. The legend that I'd love to see manage Chelsea one day is Lampard.

I'm taking the p*** because somehow Ivanovic gets a new contract when he has been truly awful but the club leave Terry waiting this long. Terry is still Chelsea's best CB and one of the best in the prem.
April 17, 201610 yr Please vote for JT for player of the season. No-one else deserves it, and if he's to leave at the end of this sh*t show of a season, it's the least he should deserve in his final campaign.

Utd don't even trust giggs to manage utd after all this time, and he's been assistant coach for a while now. Time will tell if he does go into coaching.
April 17, 201610 yr Quietly done and I hope the f**kwit journalist who put him in the same piece as Johnson thinks on. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-cambridgeshire-36014630

Time will tell if he does go into coaching. Yeah and my hunch is that first team coach isn't where he can make the biggest contribution. Even if JT is a fantastic first team coach, there will be others who could do as good a job. But there is no one in the world who could do as good a job heading the academy as JT could. Plus mentoring youth seems to be his passion and calling.
April 17, 201610 yr Doubt the club will have him back in any capacity. When have they showed any common sense and loyalty to the people that matter?
April 18, 201610 yr What a fabulous gesture, he didn't have to do anything, but he bloody did,and made a fabulous proposition, props JT
