Welcome Loic Remy

It's not a position he is strong in but because he can do a job there it means that's the only way he can get game time if Falcao has to play.

Even when not playing well he scores that's the difference. Thankfully we didn't sell him otherwise we'd be in a bit of bother for the next few games.

He's like Schurrle, both had the best strike rate p/minutes on pitch, Schurrle had Torres and Eto'o in his way, Remy has Falcao and Costa to blocking his path.

I remember when you selected the forwards with the best chance of scoring goals.

Eto'o was far better than Schurrle that season.

Why was his strike rate nowhere near that of Schurrle then ?

Sad to see Schurrle coming in as a late substitute in the Bayern-Wolfsburg match in mid-week, the one where Lewandowski scored 5 times in 10 minutes of the second half (after having coming in as a sub).  He has a nice beard, though.

According to Transfermarkt Eto'o scored a goal every 193 minutes in the 13/14 season.

Schurrle scored every 227 minutes.

I'll also throw in that Eto'o picked up an extra 4 assists that season.

So yes, their strike rates weren't close.

edit: Transfermarkt also took into account 6 games Eto'o played for Anzhi before joining us, where his strike rate was far worse than what it was for us. So his actual strike rate was significantly better than that.

Not sure why Schurrle and Eto'o are being compared. Eto'o played as a lone striker nearly every game while Schurrle only played as a strike once I think, playing the rest on the wing.

Hasn't Schurrle been awful for Wolfsburg?

Yip.

Has been really poor since he returned and also been injured constantly.

I think we were right to sell him judging by it, there must be something underlying there?

Costa's suspension initially made me question Chelsea's ability without him and Remy has never fully inspired confidence but one of those games is against Newcastle who are a total shambles at the moment and shouldn't provide any resistance which will allow Remy to get a full Premier League game and prepare for the more physical challenge that Southampton will provide.

Costa has not been as effective as I would expect so far this season and to be fair that is more down to the midfield not getting the ball in to his feet quick enough and he has had to come very deep to get involved. This is not a strategy that will work with Remy and I'm curious how Chelsea will adapt over these two games, especially with an away trip to Porto sandwiched in the middle. Hazard will have to take on a more attacking role which will leave a bigger gap in the middle to be exploited by Southamptons quick counter attack.

I believe it would be best for all concerned if Remy got a move in January to a side who will pick him week in and week out, probably as part of a front two. If we could send Falcao back to Monaco that would be nice too.

We need a viable alternative to Costa, I have to wonder if Bamford or Solanke would offer us more than Falcao and Remy.

i thought he looked really rattled and nervous yesterday, don't know if it's because of the boos or the pressure for him to perform better than falcao who we all know jose favors more

He's a good impact sub, and he'd probably be good in a different system, but he's not a Drogba-esque target man.

Some one summed it up completely for me when they said he has no aggression what so ever. Decent enough player but I was hoping he would take the bull by the horns and take his change yesterday. Which he never

Mourinho was pretty scalding yesterday when he said we would have won if we had Costa. I was disappointed with Remy, but most of the tie he was on the pitch we were underperforming so not sure if his performance was a symptom or a cause of our bad team display. Either way, I'd quite like to see Falcao start the next game to see if he can have more of an impact and provide a better focal point to our attack

Remy was ok, never going to win aerial battle or hold up the ball by himself like Drogba or Costa. He missed a couple of chances, but we have seen similar from Costa this season. Replacing him with Falcao was just laughable, the guy couldn't even find the net with 3 yards out with GK to beat, Torres would have kicked himself for not scoring that. I think Remy deserves another chance against SouthHampton.

Remy reminds me of the old Torres of Liverpool. He  seems like a forward who would position himself near defenders and requires a playmaker (like Stevie Me) to slice through balls through the centre to beat the offside trap with a sudden burst of pace. Sadly, this is not going to happen with us as no one except Cesc is able to do that and Cesc is currently not on form as well.

I actually agree with Mourinho that we would've won if we had Costa but that does not reflect in any way or form at Remy's credentials but it had to do with the way Newcastle defended.

They were incredibly aggressive in there own half and literally bullied us off the ball each time, I dont think that tactic would have worked on Costa as he has the power to hold onto the ball and have runners play off him. Atkinson didnt help us with his leniency towards Newcastle.
