The Nathan Ake Thread

Featured Replies

i miss felipe luis even more.

Really annoying how we misused one of Europes best LB's.

You see what kind of chances Ake, Betrand and co have when guys like Luis can't get the chance to make that place his own.

Daft deal! Didn't we loan them Atsu last season & he never got a look in. Bournemouth are stacked in LB & DM positions so this loan deal makes no sense. Why not send him back to Watford where he was well rated? Watford to Bournemouth is at best a sideways move if not a downgrade.

I just can't believe this.

He played twice as well as any CFC left back last season. If ever a loanee deserved his chance it was Ake.

What sort of message does this send out. He can't have done any more. I hope he puts in a transfer request next year, no one could blame him.

So frustrating. I despair.

Seems like our squad is going to be much the same, I really thought Ake and Baker would get squad places this year, both will be 23 by the end of the season if they can't get in a squad of 22 next year they may as well be sold. I am gutted because looking at Conte I think it would be good to work with these willing to learn youngsters and install his ideas and philosophy then the pre-maddonas we have.

I don't rate him nearly as highly as some of you, but last season he has shown us clearly he can "do a job".

There is no doubt about what he can offer us: a competent squad player in s number of positions.

Clearly he can't be a wingback and the type of fullback he is doesn't suit a conte back four imo. But he could be a left sided central defender or a midfield player.

If conte doesn't want him I have no problem with that at all.

But in that case, sell him! I know we'll get a loan fee but I don't think it is in anyones interest to keep him on loan.

I think its clear now the academy guys are used as the old fashioned 'penny stocks'

I.e. Bought for next to nothing, trained up in the hope that they hit the big time quickly, if they don't they are sold for a little profit and the money reinvested.

Reinvested in a load more, and so the cycle repeats, to very little benefit for anyone. Most of these players would have been better off staying at smaller clubs and having a chance of actually playing in the first team, instead of being loaned all around Europe and struggling to get games.

To be honest, i don't rate him as a LB as highly as some on here, i personally don't believe he would make us any better in that position. I thought that when he did get games with us, he was better as a DM. At LB i find him to be very erratic.

After seeing him play for Watford last season, i didn't think he would ever make it here. Now that he has gone on loan to Bournemouth, i'm sure he won't. We may as well have just sold him rather than loan him again.

Maybe Conte sees his future as a CM, wants him tested as one in this league, in which we choose Bournemouth (I can't see him playing left back, they are well stocked in that area).

He could have stayed here and been a squad player under Conte, but let's be honest Cesc and whoever we sign will be first choices, out of all the young uns Ruben will be first pick in that area, with no European footy their isn't much room for rotation, and if Conte is going 3-5-2 then Kenedy probably has the wing back role under lock and key.

A bit of thinking outside the box never hurts anyone.

Still catching up on CFC news having come back of hols and was gutted to hear about Ake (and Lewis Baker for that matter).

Honestly, WHAT is the point? As others have said, these players that have done all that is asked of them and performed well out on loan. the very least they deserve is to return and see the new coaching team - I thought Conte would want to see all of the players / prospects up close and form his own opinion.

As excited as I am by Conte and the next chapter, with regards to the promotion / integration of youth it looks like it's going to be a case of same old, same old and you have to feel for these youngsters. I heard Butch Wilkins on Saturday getting very vocal saying if Cheslea youngsters are not going to get a look in and cannot progress they should DEMAND a transfer and I think he's spot on.

I think Kyle Scott did that at the end of last season and you'd expect more to follow.

It's bound to effect us holding onto the brightest talents in the country as why will they want to play here knowing it's almost impossible to get into the first team.

I think its a very very good move for Ake. I dont think he ever wanted to be a full time left-back.

His position of choice is def midfield or centre back and I think bournemouth will give him that role.

There was talk that he went to Bournemouth so he could get minutes in centre midfield, i think that will be difficult with Wilshire signing for them, and i also think it will be hard for him to get in at left back ahead of charlie daniels who was pretty good for them last year.

Really think we might have messed this one up.

Bring him home, we have not got that big of squad

I suppose Wilshere will likely miss a few games through injury... but this isn't great.  Not to mention we could have used Ake as cover in midfield and at the back!  Hard to anticipate when clubs will new signings, and makes it even more ridiculous we loaned out Ake so early on.

They will presumably have Tyrone Mings coming back from injury at some point as well. So far they've been using him as a late sub in midfield. To be fair I can't imagine this Wilshere move was planned far in advance; I hadn't really thought about how that move might affect Aké.

It's possible they may end up using him at centre back? They lost Elphick and Distin over the summer and so far have only replaced him with Marc Wilson from Stoke.
