My brother just saw it again and he enjoyed it more the second time.

The sith apprentice was abit weak for me (they seemed to want it that way) but other then that it was good

Thought it was probably one of the best ones.

Wasn't cheesy, wasn't poorly acted and I love the way Abrams shoots his films...it was a great match.

I'd rather it was more new hope than the drivel we got more than a decade ago.

Definitely a decent film. One thing I noticed was how more understandable and accessible the film was compared to their others. I think anyone watching any of the Star War films for the first time could understand it.

Oh and seeing Princes Lelia as an old woman gave me nightmares.

Hmmm... I thought I'd already posted on this thread, but apparently not.

 

The first 30-45 minutes were good, even if it was recycling the older movies for plot ideas. Midway through it started getting stale and the latter half was a bit so-so, even with "the death scene of Han Solo" (which I'm not entirely sure is as final as it seems). The new gigantic Death Star thing was just one recycled idea too many and the attack to destroy it wasn't even a very exciting scene. I thought Rey instinctively knowing how to use the force without any training allowed for some cheap Deus ex machina type plot devices, which were quite silly. And the end? I thought the final shot of the movie is one of the worst final shots I've seen in years. Maybe ever. It felt totally pointless to have that sweeping aerial shot. It almost seemed like they just felt like they had to use the shot, so that they wouldn't piss off the cinematographer, because it was a difficult shot to achieve or it was expensive to make or something like that.

 

Even with some minor and a couple of major flaws, it was entertaining enough to watch once. It's clearly the fourth best Star Wars movie.

Agree with a lot of this.  I did like the movie, and it was great to kinda get that felling of "good, we are getting back to where this belongs" after episodes 1-3.  However, I did like some of the homages.  However, one thing I couldn't remember: aren't you meant to be able to sue the Force before you get to pick up and know how to use a lightsaber?

That's what I thought, but then again, Luke got his saber very early on in his training. His proper training only started when he went to meet Yoda, didn't it? But I think you're supposed to have had at least some training before you get you saber. I'm not 100% sure, though.

Well I must say it was like watching a re-run of the original, same plot lines, same type of action and 30 years on still using the same fighters.  I thought they would have been a lot more original than that....disappointed to say the least.  I just hope the next one if way way better than this.

there's no question rey has some kind of relation with luke, with the lightsaber, r2d2 suddenly powering up when rey arrive at the resistance base (remember during the flashback luke put his hand on r2d2 and r2's light went off) 
 
i think she's one of luke's student and luke sense that she could be the real chosen one not his father and when kylo and his posse went dark and destroys the academy luke went to jakku left rey there wipe her memory clean to protect her from the sith and when she has grown up, the max sydow guy who's part of luke's academy and is looking after rey the whole time, supposed to guide her to luke but sadly he got killed, that's my dumb fan theory

When I was talking about having the force to be able to use the lightsaber I was talking more about Fin.  He just picked it up and started fighting a Sith Apprentice in Kylo Ren like it was nothing

That's what I think... Fathers tend to be a Star Wars theme. I love BB8 too.

Decent film, I'm not sure what people expected but with the old cast returning it was always going to be a semi homage to the original. I got what I expected and would be quite surprised if anyone was expecting something different/original. Maybe I'm a cynic.

I'd say it's either Nolan's Batman trilogy or Kill Bill, but that's just me. Basically because currently most people think half of the Star Wars are crap and the three good ones from the '70s and '80s were ruined by George Lucas' tinkering in the '90s and '00s.

I'm in the same boat as you.

 

I've never understood why people thought they were great films! I thought it was complete garbage when I saw it at the cinemas and I even fell asleep inside the cinema during the release of The Phantom Menace.

 

I respect the fact that people love these films but they're not my cup of tea.

I wouldn't say they are great films, just good entertainment, in the same category as Bond and Indiana Jones.

One of the best Sci fi universes ever created with lots of memorable characters.

It's lighthearted, escapism and lots of fun.

Was ok, obviously a setup for the 8th episode! Loved the way they introduced the Millennium Falcon! Very clever.

Was it me or did CP30 look completely different?

Saw this movie a few days ago. I thought it was okay but a bit cheesy and 'american' at times, if you get my drift.

Kylo Ren is a poor character to me. If I'm watching good vs evil then the bad guys have got to strike some sort of fear, Kylo came across more of a spilt kid who can't get his way rather than a terrifying opponent.

Yeah he does, he's had a redesign by the look's of things. He look's crap now. He look's all plastic and cheap.

Finally saw Star Wars today, I loved it. A million times better than the prequels (which i didn't hate- I actually quite like Phantom Menace and Revenge of the Sith) . I was just gripped throughout. I loved Fin and Rey, and BB-8.

The action was excellent and Harrison Ford surprised me, I thought he would just phone it in as Hans Solo but I think he and Leila were perfect.

My only gripe is that "supreme leader", who looked more like out of the Lord of the Rings universe than Star Wars. He just looks awful. And who is he? Horsesh*t. I'll add that Kylo Ren was a bit of a stroppy school-boy.

Other than that, I thought it was a more than satisfying space-romp. I have not read any of the comments in this thread for fear of spoilers, so I've just posted this here without reading other people's opinions.

I'll add that I am not a Star Wars fan at all (my vice is James Bond) but I think this film would thrill any neutral.
