Blue Daze
If Real offered around £40m for Courtois I'd take it. We get to keep Cech, have an extra £40m to spend improving the team and everyone's happy. Except Arsenal, but who cares about them. And lose out on £10 million for cech, pay his wages for another year and then in a year's time you may be looking for another great keeper which isn't that easy as arsenal have shown. Bad business all round.

Blue Daze
No reason why we should be. Cech potentially has years left in him. There's also the possibility that those rumblings about his deteriorating physical condition hold some merit and he might not have that many years left at the top. Either way, we have the second-best keeper in the world at our club and he's only 23. That's possibly a decade of stability in that position when we could be looking at losing our longest serving player (a defender) within two years. It's somewhat surprising anyone would consider making any change when we could watch this guy develop into the world's best and beat every record going. But if we all agreed on everything the world would be boring I suppose.

Remind me how many games he's missed through injury in the past five years. As I've said before, I'm not completely sold on the Courtois hype. He had a good first season but I'm yet to be convinced he's an upgrade on Cech. £40m would be a lot to turn down.

Not sure how many he missed through injury at the tail end of the season. He may well pool play until he's 40,as I said above, but there were those rumours of his long term physical fitness and I've always wondered how his being a triplet might be a factor. May not be. As for Courtois, he's done well so far which is why he's going nowhere. Edited June 11, 2015 by Blue Daze

gojo_ed
Bloody sad to see Cech leave, especially to that lot. But on the other hand... We have a superb keeper on our books, who has barely turned 23. Someone who has already won La Liga, the Premier League, a Copa del Rey, a League Cup, and a Europa League. Someone who has already appeared picked up La Liga keeper of the season (twice), and Champions League keeper of the season. Big Pete was already a monstrous keeper when he joined us, but if anything Courtois joined on an even higher level (at the same age). Whilst it's always sad to see a legend leave, we need to keep looking forward, looking forward to another 10 years of this. Celery1989
One thing that I don't get about Football these days - Why do goalies always charge out so recklessly when a striker is through on goal? More often than not they end up fouling the forward, and in so doing, end up getting sent off and then the team most probably concedes a goal from the resulting penalty. I just think that goalies could exercise more caution when the risk of fouling the forward is quite high and the consequences are very detrimental indeed. Maybe I'm being pedantic and excessively critical, but more often than not they foul the forward. Maybe it would be better to come out kind of half way and then stop there? icecoolguy22
Bad positioning for the goal, and a completely rash challenge once the ball passed him, hopefully that won't count as a dangerous play. Maybe that long range goal he conceded last year affected him, he really should have been higher up outside the box when we were playing the high line. Without the red car, 11 vs 11, we still would have won the game from 2:2.

I don't think it is anything new. Even when we had Cudicini he would be reckless off the line. It's not something i like about keepers though. Sometimes you need to have faith in your defense, even when Gomis got through yesterday i still think that our defense could have either stopped him from getting a shot on goal or put him off. I prefer keepers that stay on their line, but i don't think Courtois is that type of keeper. He should be well and truly bedded in now and I had hoped he would have learned from the Adam goal. Let's hope this is sorted out now for the rest of the season. By staying on the line, you give all power to the striker. He is the one who decides what's gonna happen. By coming of your line, you dictate the direction of the play. You force the striker to make a decision: is he gonna try and round you? Is he gonna try and hit it? You also create time for your defenders to possibly get back and cover. If he stayed on his line yesterday, no chance Cahill was ever gonna get back in time. PedroMendez
