January 23, 201511 yr But what does he do that's better than what we have? He's 24 and no one else has shown interest in him bar us. United have been after him for years.

January 23, 201511 yr But what does he do that's better than what we have? He's 24 and no one else has shown interest in him bar us. And no one showed an interest in Azpi when he was at Marseille and look at him.
January 23, 201511 yr Not seen a great deal of him, but from what I remember he captain the national team at youth level, which maybe shows he is willing to take responsibility, which is something Willians detractors have mentioned. I'd be excited about either costa or cuadrado to replace salah. Both are exciting players to watch. However I'm not completely sold on either and I'm not sure they will be the long term answer to right wing. Not much else available though so I'd say it is probably worth a punt.
January 24, 201511 yr Not too keen. However he's essentially an improvement on Salah and is left footed. Maybe that's the reason why Jose is buying him, for the sake of balance. Not sure if he's sees Willian having problems at RW -- might use Cuadrado (first) and Douglas Costa there, then will use Oscar+Willian for the AM spot and Hazard for LW. Possibly Schurrle for LW as backup if he stays this window. Remy an option too. Edited January 24, 201511 yr by MANoWAR
January 24, 201511 yr Can't see it with FFP and all. One will be being used as a smokescreen for the other I imagine If we were to sell both Salah and Schurrle and replace them with Cuadrado and Douglas Costa we'll probably lose around 5-7 million as a result, so not a threat to the FFP. Cuadrado is a better player than Schurrle at this point, no doubt about that. As for Douglas Costa, I've only seen him a few times for Shakhtar in the CL. He looked good, but then again, so did Salah for Basel. If we were to pull this off though, our attacking midfield options (Hazard, Oscar, Willian, Cuadrado, Douglas) would be a dream for any manager and a terrifying sight for any opposition. January 24, 201511 yr This players goal scoring record is at par with Willian and he also isn't very much creative plus he is cup tied. I dunno why should we buy him and not Cuadrado who isn't cup tied and is obviously a much better player. Plus he plays in some ukrainin league... and will cost damn 20million pounds. I'd rather pay 25m for Cuadrado imo.
January 24, 201511 yr Jose welcomes Douglas Costa interest http://www.goal.com/en/news/9/england/2015/01/24/8249322/chelsea-boss-mourinho-welcomes-douglas-costa-interest?ICID=HP_BN_1
January 24, 201511 yr He's obviously talented but if I'm being honest, not a massive fan of the move. Not only is he cup tied I don't like the stuff I'm hearing about him.
January 24, 201511 yr It's a joke. The fact the club is even considering this is madness. I know, fancy them identifying a weakness and looking at options to fix it. Absolute joke.
January 24, 201511 yr I think he'd be a good option to have but I think keeping Schurrle would be a good idea too as D.Costa is cup tied and if worst case scenario one of the starting xi attacking mids was to get injured we'd be horribly short in that department.
January 24, 201511 yr It's a joke. The fact the club is even considering this is madness. Not exactly, if anything I think it would be more of a joke if we got rid of a player and didn't replace him. What would be the point in that, Salah may not be the best but we may as well have the depth.
January 24, 201511 yr Will likely end up a failure and is not a match winner. Will he take the pressure off hazard? I doubt it. Cuadrado at least seems like a player who will really make an impact. I just don't see the point in signing average players for over inflated prices. We are getting desperate now we can't spend millions and millions.

I just don't see the point in signing average players for over inflated prices. We are getting desperate now we can't spend millions and millions. That's my feelings on it also, I don't think he will bring that impact or any variety Willian doesn't already bring. But that's only from what I'm hearing, I haven't seen the guy play, if you have and you think that then fair enough but I'm not so sure. At least we are bringing in a replacement for Salah anyway.
January 24, 201511 yr From what I've seen he won't make any difference to Willian and Schurrle. Good player but that's about it, not good enough to be starting for a team like us Would much prefer Cuadrado or wait to see if someone better becomes available in the summer
January 24, 201511 yr If we're going to sign someone it'd better be Reus or Cuadrado, I don't want another 'maybe he'll work out' kind of player. Edited January 24, 201511 yr by Soulo

But that's only from what I'm hearing, I haven't seen the guy play, if you have and you think that then fair enough but I'm not so sure. At least we are bringing in a replacement for Salah anyway. It really needs to be Cuadrado or no one (unless we sell for a really tempting price, then i don't know) but to bring a relatively unknown brazilian from Russia (not a very good league) and expect him to do something special is very hit and miss. From what i have heard of cuadrado, he is a very good winger, and from what i've seen of him in videos, he can pull out game changing goals. When i watch costa from youtube videos (i know they aren't the best representation of a player) he looks similar to thorgan hazard style of play. However, saying that, i don't watch all these players so i could be very wrong, but i just don't want us spending money (which we need to use sparingly as it is due to ffp) on a player who looks more mediocre than special. I don't think reus would fit in our side from what i've heard, as he's apparent best position is on the left side (same side as hazard) and we wouldn't be able to sign him until summer even if we could. This is a signing i think needs a lot of consideration as the russian club are apparently holding out for 30 million, and we've already been conned out of 30 million for willian, so i would want a player is good enough to return that 30 million with interest.
January 24, 201511 yr If both Schurrle and Salah go i could perhaps see this guy joining along with Cuadrado. Be very very surprised if he is the option ahead of Cuadrado
January 24, 201511 yr Salah was a stop-gap signing, who wasn't good enough. I can't see this guy being any different if we did sign him.
January 25, 201511 yr http://weaintgotnohistory.sbnation.com/chelsea-fc-transfer-rumours-news/2015/1/25/7886943/blues-douglas-costa-bid Schurrle and Salah out then for Costa and the other winger we are being linked with. Is that an improvement worth the cost?
January 25, 201511 yr We would bring in at least 30 million for both schurrle and salah going by figures being banded around, but that's hoping that roma actually buy salah and don't take him on loan. We bring in costa and cuadrado for 40+ so will only end up spending around 10-15 million. I don't mind, just as long as this costa lad is going to cut it here, and he isn't just another willian type player.
