Diego "the guv'nor" Costa

Featured Replies

Looked incredibly sharp. Will do great things this season with Hazard.

For all our possession he was not an attacking focal point at any stage of the game. Pretty anonymous till the goal is the stark truth.

But he scored a goal, the winning goal, literally out of nowhere. And that is what he can do. Is it enough for a team that wants to be one of the European elite? Not for me, but it probably is for many others.

Bats made a difference when he came on. Perhaps two up front is the way to go and might help take the responsibility off Costa.

this post = fail

Could not be happier to be wrong.

He got the winning goal but hopefully next game he can perform better because he was quite poor most of the game. Also hopefully he starts staying in the box more because there were a couple of good crosses with no one in the box.

A bit strange that he didn't stay in position, because Conte said this just before the West Ham game:

"Diego is a forward. He knows that in my idea of football, the forward must always be a point of reference for the team. I don't like the forward to move around the pitch. I like him to stay there. Because you are a forward, and your commitment is to score the goals, to stay in the right position. You are a forward, not a midfielder, not a defender."

Good goal from him today, but I have to agree that everything else he did was poor today. It's like he has tunnel vision at times, trying to bulldoze his way through 3-4 West Ham players when his teammates are free, Hopefully he can improve, but atleast we have the option to play Batshuayi now, who seem to be alot better as a target/linkup striker.

Yup.

Moreover, like i said before, even jose had said something similar.

Also its worrying that our plan-B is 4-2-4 and yet we have just 2 strikers in the squad. Just cant wrap my head around the traore loan.

have to say I disagree. a bit.

I thought he was very involved and I think in this type of football the strikers are going to get a lot of touches. however, I don't think he did it well. he was too insistent on turning and trying to run collins rather than play the percentages. willian and oscar looked like they picked it up immediately but I think costa is going to need to be coached out of certain habits he has.

One of his better game even before the goal. He's constantly running and pulling defenders out of position, sure he missed a few chances and misplaced a few passes, but heaps better than Costa 12 months ago.

Sometimes though with the constant running down the wings it gives the midfielders a lack of option going forward when they want the ball to stick and have to go backwards.

Great goal but Costa keeps going wide and just running into defenders and then it gives the ball away. Costa would be better waiting in and around the box for opportunities.

Michy made the difference because as soon as he came on he went in front of Costa and literally pushed their defence back because they were worried about his pace, they had it pretty easy up till then because Costa never put them under pressure on their back line.

I would rather we give Michy a turn up front and see how he plays the lone front man in that same team. If he had of played from the start I think we would of easily won.

Easily see him displacing costa (the second best striker in the world :laugh2: ) in a month or 2

2 up top seems like a good way to go. I'd love us to try it for a run of games and see what happens. Give opposition defences a problem to solve that they're not used to. 1 up top is so common that a strike partnership could really trouble them

Played a good game, great winner. Just hope he doesnt get booked every single game, although I would nearly take it if he keeps scoring.
