Diego "the guv'nor" Costa

Featured Replies

Wouldn't it be nice if journalists reported real stories rather than merely reporting what other media outlets are saying which give no sources at all? Especially so-called "quality" papers like the Independent?  Such appalling journalism.

So how about if I say that Messi wants to come to Chelsea.  He loves London and is unhappy with the hot climate in Spain and hankers after real ale and curry.  Moreover he misses his mate Cesc.  Then everyone else can repeat the story as "it is reported that ....etc".

This is what Marca says in full "Diego Costa wants to come back to Atlético. He has not settled in London and does not rule out taking a drop in salary.

The Spanish-Brazilian forward left Atlético in the summer of 2014. Chelsea paid his buy-out clause, quoted as being €36 million, in full. Despite the muscular problems he has been having over the past few months, his first season at Chelsea has been brilliant, ending up as one of the highest goalscorers in the Premier League, with 20 strikes from barely 26 games.

But although he has had a successful season with Mourinho and Co., Diego Costa is not happy at Chelsea. The problem is that he has not settled in London - the wet English climate, the language, the food.

All these are key factors in Costa having contacted the Atlético de Madrid board - with whom he enjoys an excellent relationship - with a view to coming home, to the club he joined at the age of 17 and where he was a big star by the age of 25.

The player is even prepared to take a drop in salary. When he went to Chelsea he earned double what he got at Atlético, almost €7 million per season net, and he knows full well that Atlético de Madrid cannot match that.

But there is another problem in that Chelsea's intentions, and those of their owner Roman Abramovich and José Mourinho, are not to let their star forward go. Mourinho knows he has a treasure in his hands, and, injuries apart, his performances will get even better."

NOT ONE QUOTE/SOURCE or anything to give it any substance.

This is just like the stuff that was coming out about Hazard last season. There was so much bullsh*t going around that he was pushing for a move to PSG even though he had achieved everything in France and said he would never go back there. This is crap, he will be with us next season. Hopefully banging in the goals again and without many injury problems.

it's like the excuses players give on a FIFA career mode:

"Boss, it's nothing personal, I just miss home"

I just give them a £20,000 wage rise, that shut's them up

Diego Costa doesn't come across as the kind of guy who gets homesick

(and his home is Lagarto in Northeast Brazil , not Madrid)

Newspapers need to fill the back pages with ridiculous stories , next they will be telling us that Rafa Benitzez will be managing Real Madrid

in all seriousness Costa seems really happy with us, I cant see him wanting to go back to Spain to compete with Valencia and Sevilla to finish in CL places in Spain

Torres would keep him out of the Atletico team anyway

Chelsea will deflect any attempts by Atlético Madrid to re-sign Diego Costa as the Premier League champions seek to strengthen the striker, both physically and mentally, after a bruising first season in English football.

The penalty converted against Sunderland on the final day took Costa’s goal tally to an impressive 20, though the Brazil-born forward’s impact had been undermined by a succession of hamstring injuries. While he returned as a substitute for the last two games, he has not completed a full 90 minutes since Chelsea’s draw with Southampton in mid-March.

Chelsea have been anxious not to aggravate Costa’s problem. He was omitted from the Spain squad for their friendly with Costa Rica and the Euro 2016 qualifier against Belarus later this month after the Spain head coach, Vicente del Bosque, cited concerns over his fitness. Chelsea’s manager, José Mourinho, withdrew him as a precaution after a 25-minute cameo in the friendly against Thailand All Stars in Bangkok on Saturday as the striker was deemed “tired”.

The club have ruled out surgery and are endeavouring to strengthen Costa’s thigh muscles and increase the elasticity of his hamstring to ensure the same problems do not reoccur next season. Efforts will also be made to ensure he has recovered psychologically from the problem.

The 26-year-old split with his girlfriend after swapping Spain for England and has struggled with the language, and reports surfaced in Madrid on Monday that he was unsettled and seeking a return to Atlético.

Chelsea, who paid £32m for his services last summer, have dismissed those suggestions and will not countenance any bids for his services.

Costa, who has remained publicly upbeat with his team-mates and has trained for Chelsea’s game against Sydney FC on Tuesday, has been deeply frustrated by the succession of niggles, which date back to his time at Atlético where he was forced off early in the European Cup final against Real Madrid last May. He is understandably wary of suffering further relapses.

Chelsea are likely to be in regular contact with Atlético this summer as they weigh up a £43m move for the France international forward Antoine Griezmann, a fee which would trigger the buy-out clause in his deal, but also over the potential sale of Filipe Luís back to the Spanish club. The left-back, a close friend of Costa’s, has struggled to make much of an impact in his first year and is expected to return to Vicente Calderón, with Toby Alderweireld possibly moving in the opposite direction.

The Belgium international, 26, spent last season impressing on loan at Southampton and would offer the Premier League champions back-up in defence as well as in midfield. Tottenham Hotspur are expected to compete with Chelsea and Southampton to secure Alderweireld on a permanent basis this summer.

‘I’m happy he’s unhappy because his unhappiness destroys my dressing room,’ said Mourinho after Chelsea’s win against Sydney on Tuesday.

‘He is the guy responsible for every single good moment in the dressing room.He is so happy, he is so funny and he is enjoying every minute at Chelsea and people are enjoying every single minute of him.

‘So if this is unhappiness I am happy with that. But he was not happy with that news. In his bad English I think he has to try to express how unhappy he is with this news and how happy he is at Chelsea.’

‘We wanted to try to play our best players and because we didn’t have some of our players, the ones we did have we tried to play all of them.

‘Diego was one we didn’t want to risk but I told him ‘Let’s give to the fans at least half an hour of Diego Costa.’

‘He went on until over 40 and we felt at that time it was enough. It was good because the people here could enjoy almost 45 minutes of Diego.’

I think he's saying that Costa was unhappy at the reports that he was unhappy, meaning they are incorrect and he is in fact, happy.

And something like: if in general he is unhappy, I'll take it, because he's great guy in the dressing room.

I think that's what he says :blush2:

I was looking back to that Immobile thread & there were posters saying Immobile & Torres would do better than Costa. Boy were those fools hecka wrong on that assessment. Not sure what Torres is doing but I just read that Immobile is seeking another home after failing @ BvB. Just glad DC had a good season. If DC can stay healthy I think we can see him throwing more celery sticks at our fans

The manky metro really aren't giving up on this one (is the writer/editor a Spud?):

Chelsea have reportedly offered the transfer of Diego Costa to Real Madrid.

The Spanish striker made a blistering start to life in the Premier League, scoring 21 goals in 34 appearances, but apparently he has not settled into life at Stamford Bridge.
