Diego "the guv'nor" Costa

Featured Replies

Costa crocked in training, thanks to Mikel.

Great.

Just more proof that these post season friendlies are really stupid. Imagine if Diego Costa had ruptured his achilles tendon, he probably wouldn't play again for a year. Losing a player for a season just to earn a bit of money for the club really isn't worth it.

I'd just send over the youth squads to play. Let the others come but just sit the games out

Slap in the face for the foreign fans maybe but better than risking your season to come.

Imagine if on our pre-season tour to the US in a few months Eden Hazard gets struck by lightning while walking his dog, we should probably cancel that as well.

May as well stop playing football altogether and become a Chess team.

Of course they're stupid, but these days money talks and sport and its stars are very secondary. The players now are expected to perform for 11 months in a year and we question why their form dips mid season. Not to mention most will be burned out by their early thirties.

That's a bullsh*t argument lol.

You don't go walking expecting to be hit by lightning. It's such a rare occurrence most people walk their whole life and never get struck. Nevertheless the more times you walk the more likely it is...

Injuries in training however are way more likely. Part of responsible injury management is keeping training to a minimum. Playing unnecessary games violates that.

So we probably should have stopped all our first team players training or playing games after the Palace game?

I think certain sections of the club would say games like these, which boost the international profile of Chelsea/help gain foreign fans, are essential to the long term success of the club.

Exactly and you can't shortchange these fans they want to see the Costa's, Hazard's etc

A lot of these people in other countries are every bit a Chelsea fan as anyone here is but due to reasons whether financial or otherwise cannot see their team play at Stamford Bridge. So the only chance they get is through TV or when the squad travel there for these "meaningless friendlies". Meaningless to us but to these people it is perhaps the only chance they'll get to see the players they adore up close and personal. Would be an injustice to send the under 21's and no recognised names.

Players knew the risk when they started out in the game, you can get hurt at anytime. You put your body on the line. Depending on luck that can be in training, in a cup final or having a kickaround in your back garden.

I always like when the food argument is bought up.

Living in London you can eat pretty much whatever you want, when you want.

Just makes these sort of reports all the more laughable.
