I hope this is sorted soon. These kind of things will affect. We can't find a better striker in January. There was a story (by Levene I guess) which said Lukaku would be our best chance.

I feel this will blow over and Costa will play against Hull.

Regarding the £300k a week, I don't think that's even remotely an option. In fact, even £200k a week, or close to that, isn't doable. Costa has been good this season, but putting him close, or even above Hazard, would be outrageous and trigger a very costly chain reaction.

I don't know how much he is on, but £150k a week tops would be reasonable, in my opinion. After all, he is 28 years old and history suggests that a dip in performance and/or unprofessional behaviour in the not too distant future is not entirely unimaginable to say the least. Given his temper, if he wants an extension, he has to be put on a strictly performance based contract, in my opinion.

I love the way he has played this season, but I am afraid it takes much more to earn that amount at a club that's not entirely lost its dignity.

sell costa and we're back to the situation we were in two seasons ago, world class striker is such a rarity, we have one and we must do all that  we can to keep him

it won't be 300k, if he signs a new contract it would probably be around 200k max, mendes and roman have a very good relationship and ofc there's the master negotiator herself marina 

At the moment he is irreplaceable.

If he's wanting that sort of money then he will be off. 

Just stay till the end of the season, maybe win something then sort your future out,

Apparently 200k for Hazard is top of the shop. If Costa wants 300k he is being unrealistic.

ridiculous. soon enough clubs won't be able to pay the salaries players want. china is making it hard for clubs, because they're giving players another option if their clubs don't cough up the money. it really isn't good for any club, and the future of football is bleak if money is going to be the big issue in the future.

Money has been the issue for years. We should all look at the service that JT and Lamps gave this club - that commitment to a club is rare and will become even more rare as ridiculous amounts of money are thrown at  young men whose main talent in life is kicking a ball. 

Does winning any trophy beat earning 30 million a year? Probably not, it's mostly us fans who wish that wasn't the case.

We can't exactly complain, English clubs have been doing this for years. China is just the new money in the game.

Chinese football is like Championship Manager in cheat mode.

Anyone else think we should stick with this formation next week even if Costa is back? I just think we play more fluid and are more threatening with those front three. Move Willian for Fabregas and perhaps bring on Costa in the 60th minute if we need more goals.

i can not understand how these agents have been allowed to get such a foot hold in football. Couldn't a club designate its own agent\s to do the wheeling dealing of selling and buying players? and then when a player signs the contract it is written in that he can only use the clubs agent\s ?

where do you guys rank Costa among the world's best strikers? there arent that many truly elite ones...I'd say he's definitely top 5, maybe 4th behind Zlatan, Aguero, and Lewandowski...maybe Benzema Neymar and Aubamayeng to round out the top group...Suarez is a filthy prick so I wont include him

He will struggle at first but his pace will help him.

We can't complain if rich chinese come and steal our talent. We started the trend basically. We just need to offer something more to players other than money. Some players will stay some will go and life goes on.

There are similarities, but you can't really compare what we did at the start of Roman to what China is doing. We had a lot of cash to splash, but we weren't paying massively over the top salaries that would have turned the heads of anyone in the world. We were levelling the playing field with the likes of Man utd, who were already spending sh*t tonnes. China is offering simply obscene wages, which I can't see how they can possibly continue to afford over a long period of time, if they keep bringing more and more players in.

When chelsea did it the epl was one of the top leagues of the world with top teams and top players
