John Stones

I think the problem we are facing at the moment is that City are throwing cash everywhere and we are very much thinking about our economical reasons and If a deal makes sense. City made the mistake of not strengthening when they won the title and now that are making up for that with Sterling, Otamendi and De Bruyne which will see them go over 100m spent this window.

We put all our eggs in the FFP basket and that has hurt us now that it pretty much does not apply anymore I assume?

The problem we are facing is we have to force a transfer if we want someone and that means spending the likes of 50m for a player and 40 for a young english centre back.

I honestly don't see that happening, but we did sign Torres on deadline day so who knows.

I am surprised we haven't gone more in for Pedro, we need goals from more positions as he has a knack for them but I imagine we can't promise him first team football.

I don't see why not...he's a better footballer than Willian, Cuadrado and Moses.

If Pedro moved here he'd have the RW spot his own within a month.

Actually meant to post this in the other thread not the John Stones one, ah well. If only it was that easy Chels, I don't see Jose disposing Willian who I think he favours. Pedro loves Barca and he wouldn't leave if hes playing regularly, I am pretty sure he would want to make sure he is one of the first names on the team sheets if hes gonna leave.

Having a three of Hazard, Willian and Pedro does sound appealing but Oscar hit the ground early and I think he will start more games this season than last. So that puts Willian on the right, It really does depend on how much Jose likes Willian.

Anyway, sorry for going off John Stones!

Il be disappointed if we haven't had a bid accepted by the end of the week. We seem to be biding our time, I wonder if we are waiting for city and a couple of others to spend their kitty before going for our targets. Probably wishful thinking.

Everton are not going to sell him to us. At this rate they'll probably accept less money and sell him to Man utd, as they seem to have a stick up their arse about the way we've bid for him.

Mourinho said on Friday we do a lot of our stuff privately out of the media. Could be a lot going on behind the scenes

Telegraph now saying that Everton want £40m now for him. Amazing the difference a draw and defeat makes.

They're very much in the position of power.

Stones has four years left on his contract, they're suffering a defensive crisis, we're starting to look desperate for an injection of new blood in our squad.

Perhaps our own fault for not being more aggressive in our pursuit at an earlier stage... We seem too obsessed with getting a bargain lately rather than quickly securing our targets for the good of the team.

The Guardian reporting we've submitted a £30m bid which Everton are likely to reject out of hand.

Honestly feels like we aren't even trying at this point.

Not sure why they keep f**king about like this. Reminds me very much of the whole Rooney saga. Might as well not even bother

They have to give their fans the impression that they don't let their players go without a tough negotiation and with great reluctance in which they prised maximum fee for the player.

Can you imagine the reaction if we offered 30m and they said straight away 'yes, okay'? No club likes to give the impression they're a pushover.

I mean it's taken us a whole summer to agree a deal for a little known left back from Augsburg - a team no-one's ever heard of.

Since day one it's been widely reported that the asking price is £34m

With four years left on Stones contract it's not like there's going to be much wiggle room on price.

When City went for Sterling they bid £40m straight away, were told £50m was his price and they met the asking price with their next bid.

We're three bids in and still not close to the asking price and our fannying about has now apparently led to the asking price going up.

With young English players especially you either pay up or go home.

Really struggling to understand our our approach to transfers this summer.
