Tammy Abraham

Wilson isn't a false 9. He's a striker, that can come deep, but in no way is he able to drop in and be a playmaker, in a way that would define him as a false 9. He doesn't have that in his locker at all.

Realistically Bournemouth would want at least £40m for him, and even though we have made some horrible signings in previous years, I really can't see us willing to pay anywhere near that.

Didn't sarri also pour cold water on it aswell due to his friendship with Howe?

Either way I don't think, and I hope he isn't coming here, he isn't better than what we have.

Sorry you're right no he isn't a false 9, the point I was trying to make (not very succinctly) is that because he can come deep might be what it comes down to. When i've seen Tammy come deep more often than not he loses the ball, he's more effective in the box like Giroud/Morata (or in other words the same as what we already have).

Don't get me wrong Wilson wouldn't be my first choice, I'd prefer the club to go after Joelinton/Fekir, or better yet bring Diego back.

We don't need another short-term solution. Wilson would have been okay if we hadn't signed Giroud already. We need a starting striker.

I've got to admit I've never heard of joelinton.

I'd be happy to go with hazard through the middle if we can't get a long term solution in January.

Simply put Joelinton is a beast. He's been compared to Roberto Firmino but I think he also shares similar characteristics to Diego. He scored against us in Conte's first preseason game against Rapid Vienna. He has a 0.65 goal assist average this season and is topping most of the stat tables in the Bundesliga at just 22 years old.

I agree with you about Hazard, just have to hope he doesn't get injured - though I guess Pedro could play through the middle in that event.

It might just be me but I actually think Adam Lallana would make a decent false 9, a poor man's Dries Mertens.

New song for tomorrow to the tune of Madness -  Drip Fed Fred; ‘We want Tammy for our striker’...

Dont worry I’m there, I’ll get it going :face_palm:

Your song writing is hardly George Michael level, mate!

Tammy is the top striker in the Championship and before he was tearing up the Championship for Bristol City yet when he got his chances at the top level he didn't click.

If we get it wrong it will be costly and I think the Championship level is just lower not a decent guide to how someone will do at EPL level.

Of course if Hazard stays fit and plays No.9 it could be academic just hope Sarri and team are looking at the goals Tammy has scored and whether they think he could do the same at the top tier.

He was playing in a dreadful swansea side to be fair.

I think he needs to stay at villa rest of the season but we should be taking a serious look at him in the summer and assessing whether he can be a part of our squad.

If he isnt ready to be a part of the squad come July it's time to sell him straight up. Morata may be gone, Giroud is 32(?) and Bats is having a terrible time in Spain right now. If Tammy isnt ready to take part then he'll never be when we presumably have more talented options ahead of him.

Callum Wilson has respectively 5 (13), 6 (20), 8 (28) and currently 9 (16) goals in Premier League, whilst playing for an offensive minded, decent team. When he played for the best team in the Championship, as a 22 year old, he netted 20 goals in 45 appearances.

Tammy Abraham, as a 19 year old, playing for a team that came in 17th in the Championship, had 23 goals in 41 appearances. He then had 5 goals for the third worst team in the Premiership. Now he's back at championship, still younger than what Wilson was when he was there, and has 16 goals in 20 matches for a poor Aston Villa-team.

If we were to buy Wilson for the quoted 40 to 50 millions, it would be one of the worst purchases in our history. Can he turn out good? Maybe, though I doubt it, he's just not good enough in my opinion. But that is besides the point; we already have a homegrown, talented striker on our books, born and bred through our system. Wilson is neither young, nor jumping off scale with his quality, and this would be another Drinkwater in the making, leaving another position to be strengthened after a half-arsed purchase.

I agree.

If he was any good, he wouldn't still be playing for Bournemouth at age nearly 27 ...

I’m sure a few of us said the same thing about a 27 year old Gary Cahill when we signed him from Bolton but that one didn’t turn out so bad did it?

Tammy is not going to make it here, he was pants at Swansea after an amazing season in the championship .. just because he's repeating that again don't expect him to set the EPL on fire. I'm underwhelmed every time I actually watch him start a game

It’s been discussed many times on this forum that, all things considering, he wasn’t bad at all at Swansea.  Terrible side that was relegated.

I've looked at a few youtubes and what strikes me is he should score a lot more than he does as he doesn't strike the ball clinically as she should. His manager Smith said the same thing along the lines of Tammy is a good player yet he does not put away enough of our chances.

What did strike me though was his energy and link up play on the break yet I am less sure of whether he is EPL standard and even less convinced he will play No.9 for us.

Exactly. I've said before, I'm still not sure Tammy is the answer but right now I would not hesitate to call him back and give him the No.9 jersey until the end of the season. IF we had done that for the Spurs game and played Hazard in his correct position, I don't think we would have lost (albeit unluckily).

You rarely get decent signings in January - always panic buys and soundly mugged off. Might as well throw Tammy in and then look to do better business in the Summer.

I would back Tammy to net more than our 2 current strikers given the same run of games.

I would think Tammy is better suited to the pressing style than Giroud and Morata, as well

He's 100% got more energy than Morata & Giroud put together. + he has the knack of being in the right place and sticking the ball in the net. It's a no-brainer for me.
