I wouldn't mind Pellegrini either, hes a good manager who's teams play an enjoyable style to watch. I more blame City's player rather than the manager for being so crap in Europe and realistically we could be signing the manager who wins 2 of the last 3 titles.

I think Pellegrini is a victim of his own success, very few people expected him to win the league in his first season. Even City just wanted Top 4.

I think both sides share the blame for europe but I would lean more towards the players if I had to pick a side. Pellegrini for finishing second in one season, can't remember which one now, when he could have been first and the players for not turning up in Europe. People say he's tactically naive for using a 442 in europe when it was that same formation that beat Bayern who were the best side in the world at that stage. Goes to show it's not to do with formations, just the players mentality.

I highly doubt that

Duff, Carvalho, Ferreira, Cudicini, Alex, Gallas (forget the Arsenal rubbish), Bridge (remember the Arsenal goal), the mighty Makelele!

Those were happy days. To have a squad like that is a rarity, we were very very fortunate. I felt proud as hell to see any of those to wear a blue shirt because I knew the'd give it all, I think Jose was brought back to produce something to this standard but it wasn't to be.

I've thought as the years go by that footballers are becoming soulless, is it money? is it a generation of weak personalities? Are expectations too high on our club. I cannot see a squad to that level around soon if ever, I'd happily go with the long term team development and a manager that Roman can feel satisfied with for longer than 3 years but is that honestly possible? I know I'd feel more attached, more interested in and prouder of a squad not based on their cost. We have the players out there on loan or in the academy that can change the current atmosphere and opinions positively but it has to be based on a Manager not forced to over achieve, I'm afraid Roman needs to change first.

There's the fallacy that the coach only is responsible for the style a team can play successfully. In fact, it does not matter if the players aren't suited to it. We wanted to play attacking football for a long time, but failed because we don't have enough technically gifted players. Oscar, Matic, Costa, Ramires, Mikel, the whole defence are all miserable with the ball at their feet. In order to play expansive, attacking football you need the rarest breed of technically gifted players of whom we just have one - Hazard.

AVB was the most prominent victim of the fallacy that the coach alone can change the style of play. It is not a coincidence that Guardiola has supposedly said we needed 10 new players.

Pellegrini will change nothing.

Not sure I agree with that. City's defenders weren't any better on the ball when Pellegrini won the league playing his attacking style, apart from Kolaov who is a winger plying his trade as a left back. He had Milner and Barry in midfield. Neither were any better technically than what we currently have.

Now that I think back on it, RDM had us playing attacking football with quite a few of the core players we have now. Mata, Lampard and perhaps Luiz being the noticable expections but the team we have now is technically superior to what we had under RDM.

AVB is more of a case of a manager trying to do too much in such a short space of time, combined with poor man management. Pellegrini is a lot wiser than this and his man management skills are far better. He took over a dull City team and transformed them into the attacking side their owners wanted. Given his experience and the fact that he's just done what Roman has been craving for, I think he would be the best manager to implement this style.

Pep wanted 10 players to play his brand of attacking football. Pellegrini's style is far more direct compared to Pep so 10 players won't be nessecary.

I highly doubt that

Probably worded that wrong. Obviously they would have wanted to win the league but there was an interview on City's site by their director of football which was explaining their project and he said something along the lines of Top 4 being the aim, can't remember word for word as this was a few years back.

Guys if we think the unthinkable & we get relegated (which in all honesty is not impossible! ) then who the hell would want to manage us then!.....hmm little food for thought perhaps....KTBFFH....

Hiddink/Pellegrini isn't a bad shout tbh. I think the likes of Drogba/Lamps should be involved heavily in coaching duties next season (and hopefully work on their coaching badges) so when the likes of Hiddink/Pellegrini move on they can be given a shout at the post. You never know, maybe one of our own is what is needed for our evolution just like with Guardiola and Simeone at Barca and Atletico respectively.

Is Pellegrini the best we can do? We may as well have rebuilt and kept Mourinho in charge through this tough period.

I wouldn't want to be online here if Pellegrini is announced as our next manager!

Surprised Poch isn't on the list, did a very good job with Southampton and is currently doing a great job at Spurs. Known to bring young players through, has respect of the players, plays exciting football. Would like to see what he's capable of doing with a team full of top players

Simeone and Pep are my first choices but if neither are available I hope we at least make some enquieries regarding Poch

Ahh fair enough that makes sense

And yet even with all that Spurs haven't really improved. I would wait and see how Spurs progress in the coming years before getting too excited about him.

Wouldn't mind him but no way are the Spurs gonna let him go. Plus why would he want to leave the Spurs for Chelsea now ? Looking at the table they are in a considerable advantage plus he is building something in Spurs for which he will get full credit.

Pochettino is a good shout but agreed don't see why he would leave Spurs right now things are going nicely for him over there. If they get Berahino in Jan him and Kane could form a real decent partnership. By the way i was wrong about Kane definitely doesn't look a one season wonder.

Pochetino over Simeon for me

Slim pickings left now...I guess Simone is probably the best of a bad bunch left if we are to be believed that Pep is off to City and Carlo to Bayern...everyone else is average at best in terms of CL experience etc unless you want FSW back.  We sacked the best manager so the only way is down

Ange postecoglou anyone ?

As an Australian I've always liked Ange but I think you're stirring here unless you're actually being serious? His only exposure to management outside of Australia was in the Greek 3rd division league back in 2008 so there's no chance it'll happen or even be considered! :laugh2:

In reality, if we're unable to obtain one of Simeone or Guardiola (even though I'm not Guardiola's biggest fan) I think we've seriously regressed in the managerial stakes and the board will regret sacking Jose.

Simone wouldn't make sense as we just got rid of a manager who has virtually the same tactics and managerial style.

I would also question his motives if he left Atletico for us.

Honestly edging for Simeone because he gives youth a fair chance and his ability to unearth relatively less known players and improve them. Why question his motives to make a switch? Despite our turbulent season, I think we are a bigger club.

Out of curiousity who are you talking about?
