I remember after the Arsenal game I was thinking if that's what is going to take to remove Ivanovic from the team, it's probably worth it. I'm not saying 343 is bullet proof, but it does solve the defensive problem on the right back, give us more width in attack, and room in the middle for Hazard/Costa to work with. He's even give the youth a run, something Jose rarely does even when 3:0 up. Me too. Have to admit to being a bit sceptical when the appointment was originally announced but I have really warmed to the guy. He's got something about him that looks like he commands respect. He's passionate, likeable and classy with it. Sure, it's early days but I just don't see us getting all the bad press with Conte that we've been used to in the past with Jose. Massive game this weekend. It's not as if his future depends on the performance and result but a good showing and 3 points will certainly do him no harm. I'll be gutted if we lose to Mourinho's Utd and will even be disappointed with a draw, but if we don't win, I'll soon get over it. Far more important is the long-term and I hope that finally the club have seen that and have appointed a guy who can build something and take us forward. That's not going to happen overnight. He can't scrap more than half of the squad and replace them in one go, but slowly & surely we are seeing him make the changes. We don't have to be a side where there is a £50m superstar in every position and I love how he has shown a bit of faith in Moses and some of the youngsters. It won't all be good and there will be blips (Liverpool & Arsenal games so far) but I'm happy with the changes and general improvement I'm seeing. Be great to finish top 4 but if we don't, we don't - I would rather see us win one of the domestic cups. Can honestly say I haven't missed the CL this season and another season out of it, although impacting on us financially, might not be a bad thing for us building the right side. I agree with all of that bar the CL bit. Wenger's top four is as good as a trophy comment may be great to mock for banter purposes, but he said it for a reason. Having said that I would never condone us celebrating it on the pitch like a trophy like Arse did, but for the recovery process of the club, minimum top four this season is crucial.

Easy to not miss the CL so far because this is the boring part. And in the past few years we haven't really had a huge deal of excitement. But back in the day when we would get to the latter stages of the competition and hold our own vs the best of the best the CL was magical. I want that feeling back.

October 23, 20169 yr Great turn around from conte after the arsenal game, to think we would actually be top if we hadnt thrown away 2 points at Swansea. I find it interesting to read redcafe and see all the same arguments regarding mourinho's team, even to the point of complaining about attacks going through valencia (ivanovic). It unravelled quickly under mourinho last season for whatever reason, but i think conte has shown that he is willing to make big changes to improve results, and players are being picked on form, which wasnt the case at times under jose. Still feel a little sorry for jose today, but not enough to wipe the smile off my face from spanking the mancs. Where's jody Morris and his trumpet!
October 23, 20169 yr Really pleased for him and today's result. He really connects with the players and makes it about them. He showed when he got the fans to clap the players as a show of appreciation for their hard work. For the first time since Mourinho left in 2007, it actually feels like we have the manager to do a proper rebuild and progress the club. No other manager has done it but Conte finally looks like the one who could.
October 23, 20169 yr The thing I like about Conte is, when we win is all about players performance. When we lose, it's the whole game, rarely he faults individual. Compare that to Jose, every time he didn't win it's individual errors ( heard it again today). I'm sure Conte work his players beyond limits in training, but looking at how players responded in the last 3 games, none of them seems to be complaining. At the end when everyone on the bench stood up to give the ovation, it was quite something. Normally there would be a few grumpy individuals there because they didn't get a game. Whether we finish in the top 4 or not this season, Conte must be kept at all cost.

I loved the substitutes standing ovation. However aina looked sad/not caring
October 24, 20169 yr There are so many individuals whose game has either picked up/ or they have reinvented themselves: Courtois his best performance in a while today, Aspi looking increasingly confident in a back three, Cahill after error proneness in a back four proving his worth in a back three and Conte giving him the Captains armband, Luiz a dominant role in the middle backline, Moses as an attacking wingback a revelation and like a top new signing, Kante a top new signing and is there anything the little man can't do, Matic growing in stature after all the negatives of last season, Alonso has really learn't his trade in Italy and is the perfect compliment to Moses, as a defensive wingback , Pedro who knows how to beat a defender is a real goal threat, Hazard well we all know how good he is when he is on it, Conte's handling of him is key component of this team, Costa without the antics - well world class; and bringing Chalobah into the fold is a huge plus. it seems we now have a manager to take us forward. He was my choice when we began a search for a new manager, based on what he did at Juventus and seeing several of their performances beforehand, he hasn't disappointed and today we are back in the race with a very credible team. Our opponents aren't as invincible as they first appeared. Arsenal are hit and miss, Guardiola is now hitting a wall, Pochettino himself has said Spurs lack depth, and for me at this moment only Liverpool look a real threat, especially if they get a goal scoring centre forward like Lacazette in January; Klopp is an excellent manager. After today and our upturn over the last three matches one can only envisage we are on our way back with a new team and a new era is upon us, how good we are or are going to get we will have to wait and see, but if we bring in a couple of Conte players in January we really will be a force. October 24, 20169 yr Best manager in the league, finally found an effective system and best Chelsea performance I seen since the 6-0 v Arsenal. Love how he humiliated Mourinho too, should've kept Hazard on and go for 5 goals. Hope he stays for many years.

October 24, 20169 yr The Arsenal match turned out to be a blessing in disguise and forced Conte to make drastic changes in adopting the 3-4-3 formation and ditching Ivanovic (now that is drastic!). The players now play with a sense of what their roles are and the results show it.
October 24, 20169 yr Felt a bit sorry for Mourinho. Was probably thinking there was no need to have the fans rubbing it in... Maybe he was planning to be gracious and respectful in post match words and show his Appreciation for the fans, and having Conte riling everyone up when 4-0 down just genuinely got to him too much. No fault of Conte's of course. He just gets 'veriappi' when things are going well. Can't really restrain himself, nor should he! I'd still like to have things gracious between Chelsea and Mourinho. He's done far too much for things to be sour and bitter. Good luck to him. May it be a friendly and respectful rivalry for years to come.
October 24, 20169 yr For the first time in ages, it feels like we actually have a plan on both ends of the field, rather than be solid defensively and hope our elite attacking players can somehow work it out for themselves up the other end. Back 3s don't have a very good track record in this league so i'm still waiting for someone to figure out how to exploit us, but for now i'm enjoying watching a team that seems to know what their roles are and what they need to be doing, and being pretty damn entertaining while doing it. Bravo Mr Conte, wonder if he feels the squad needs to be strengthened as much as he supposedly did a month ago. I suppose we'll find out more when we pick up an injury or two to our settled first team XI, although Pedro clearly put in a great shift while Willian was away, and JT seemingly can't even get back into the team

October 24, 20169 yr So confident in Conte to get us back to where we belong. He's come in, assessed the squad, seen the issues and fixed them (so far) and implemented his own system, dropping the likes of Ivanovic showing confidence in his own abilities as a manager to rebuild this side. It's early days and we are by no means there, but this looks like Proper Chels again... Keep it going lads. Edited October 24, 20169 yr by Batshuayi
