September 1, 20178 yr Makes me laugh people saying they feel sorry for him and worry he'll walk. If he was to walk I wouldn't give a toss. If that's the type of man he is he wouldn't be missed by me. He's employed as the head coach, so coach the players at his disposal. Get on with the job he is well paid to do. Simple.
September 1, 20178 yr He has more ambition than the club. Don't really deserve him, tbh. He took a team that were in crisis (!) The year before and made them champions.
September 1, 20178 yr I don't disagree that the club could have done more to build the squad up....but if the manager/coach is willing to lay down tools, and stop working as hard as possible, just because they don't have the perfect squad, then I don't want them here. You'll never get the perfect squad...and every manager wants better, it's part of football. But in the end you just need to do the best with what you've got. As long as Conte has that attitude we will do ok, and the club should stick with him, regardless of whether we win this year or not. The reality is, we almost definitely won't win Champions League this year...and probably won't win the league either. United and City will be very, very hard to beat. But finishing top 4 this season is a very acceptable season. The league (on paper) is getting more and more competitive.
September 1, 20178 yr Conte is too professional to lay down tools. The problem is the board doesn't want to invest in the squad to a sufficient extent that it will be serious challengers. Europe and Conte's ambitions lie in being among the best in Europe. That's where the gap lies. Also, the Board has unrealistic ambitions to wanting to win trophies regardless of the level of investments it has made in players and one can clearly see that Conte is not a match at Chelsea on a Long term basis.

September 1, 20178 yr He walked away from from Juve after they failed to show progress in transfer market. And he was basically their version of Lampard. Surely he tells the board to feck off next summer. Many top teams will be in for an elite manager like him next summer. Edited September 1, 20178 yr by Orpington_Blue
September 1, 20178 yr We've spent £185M+ in this window ... 4th highest ever transfer window spend after City and PSG (also both this year) and Real Madrid 2009. I would have thought Conte would be happy enough with that ? Plus he gets his first Italian signing as well !
September 1, 20178 yr And if we sell Costa, we will sold player for almost 250mln. with Oscar and Bamford selling. And i count them, cause we didn`t bring anyone in the winter. And why you not say how much players City or PSG sold and how much money they make from selling ? And did they leave their squad so thin ? Because our squad is thinner then last year, and that was hard to believe, because we have a relative small squad last year, and now it`s even smaller. Conte said that and we have CL football. The only real improvement we make is Bakayoko, but even there you have to wait and see if he really is improvement and can he be constant in his game. If just 1 of our players from last year to drop their level, which won`t be unusual, then we have big problem. And i think a lot of player last year was playing above their levels, thanks to Conte. So i guess you prefer a coach, who will not moan and be happy board to bring the players they want, not him, and ignore his wishes. Coach who is our board puppet, right ? And to always said i`m happy, the board did fantastic work. Whatever you like it or not, top managers will always have big demands, and won`t be happy with such behaviour from the board. And i don`t see top manager stay with us for more then 2-3 years at best with such politics. To be fair if Conte leave, atleast to me, we won`t get anyone near at his level. And dark times will be coming. Edited September 1, 20178 yr by brakeit
September 1, 20178 yr After signing Zappa and Danny and holding on to Baba and Kenedy we have a good squad. I personally think Baka is going to be better than Matic for us and Morata has shown he is effective. We have a more Conte squad but we fell one or two players short of ideal. I'm happy to go on with these lads. Just hope we have no major injuries this term.

We have sold Costa, matic,Nat, Ake, JT,begovic. We have replaced these players with the current ones we have bought (Morata, Baka, Danny, Zappacosta, Rudi, willy). We have basically bought those 6 six players for a total sum of 40mil pounds (If costa goes for ~ 40mil). We the number of outs we have had since the last JAN (Oscar, Iva, Mikel to be included with the above names), we needed a massive splurge just to get those numbers in. Spending 185mil pounds means nothing if you are selling players for 145mil pounds. IF/When Hazard leaves us, I hope its for a world record fee, but I also hope that we spend that world record fee on several positions to get players who are in the same ilk as Hazard.

Why do you and others have some misguided conception that owning a football club means you are obliged to constantly spend money? I think it's amazing that Roman pumped his own money in to build the club to the global force and brand that it is today and has turned us into a club that can sustain itself and remain competitive for trophies on a consistent basis. Go and ask a Blackburn fan about how a football club looks that competes artificially on the back money being pumped in by a benefactor. It's not a pretty picture if that benefactor suddenly pulls the plug/dies/runs out of money. Roman has built the club to the extent that it is no longer dependant on his money. This is a great thing to be celebrated, not complained about. Edited September 1, 20178 yr by startedwithglenn
September 1, 20178 yr At the very least, we don't have dross like Barkley and Ox clogging up the wage bill at 100k p/w.

Only the Manchester City owner is richer than Roman in the league who has full ownership of the club. The rest like George Soros & Usmanov are share holders that don't have as much say & are just making investments, nothing more nothing less. You do realise Romans net worth is near 10 billion correct?

Nothing stopping us from buying 3 players today in theory but it is highly unlikely. Usually things have an explanation and I really would love to hear why we haven't been able to buy additions the coach wants. That's the issue with the board, probably something I should put in unpopular opinions thread, they don't give managers enough backing. Some say in the end it's successful but how long will that last? Would Mourinho have lost all his players if the board had stood by him? Player power is big at this club lets be honest.
