March 16, 201610 yr People who are in the 'we need complete overhaul' camp please tell me why Conte will take the job if it is a rocky road? Is he a masochist? Because he will insist on a 5 year contract knowing he will only have to work 2-3 years of it and then get paid out the rest....
March 16, 201610 yr where did you pull that from? It's from his (and Marcotti's) book - The Italian Job
March 16, 201610 yr looks like an eytie version of Mourinho will all end up in tears after one or two seasons leopard doesn't change his spots, especially a billionaire one with a big ego and an inner circle of sycophants still on paper looks like a good appointment and despite my smarmy cynicism we can and must all live in hope that lessons have been learned by the owner's camp, only time will tell Edited March 16, 201610 yr by General

March 16, 201610 yr If what is in the press is to be believed (don't hold your breath!) then it looks like Conte wants to go with 352 with Christensen and Cuadrado part of his plans.
March 16, 201610 yr Anyway Conte is not coming to Chelsea and do a complete overhaul. It is not needed nor doable. He will tweak and strengthen areas needed strengthening and try to instill his philosophy. And hope he doesn't get sacked. It's needed, it's probably just not doable
March 16, 201610 yr I have my doubts ....a pragmatic coach who will do little to bring the beautiful game to the bridge,,,,i think we are at a stage of poor decision making on managers/ players.. and the thin line of been at the top table with the best and the one that houses the ones who just cant make it.. will be the norm ..
March 18, 201610 yr Same as city, arsenal, liverpool, utd and so on. They are all going to be facing similar challenges. City with a new manager, and if José goes to utd he will again be up against more competition. There isn't a single top club in england which can rest on its laurels next season; we aren't the only ones. People acting like the citys, arsenals and utds are head and shoulders above us in terms of success this season. If it wasn't for such a odd dip in form from us, we would be right up there as every other top club has issues right now. Agree with this. Sick and tired of the doom and gloom merchants on here knocking this club and praising our rivals. If you were to ask any arsenal, city and utd fan if they are happy with how their board handled club affairs this season and if they have improved from last season, most will tell you NO!
March 18, 201610 yr Seems conte has real pull with some players all of them seems like they would die for him on the pitch very interesting hearing is former players have nothing but praise for him
March 18, 201610 yr Seems conte has real pull with some players all of them seems like they would die for him on the pitch very interesting hearing is former players have nothing but praise for him Sounds like the labels of 'Italian Mourinho' are apt in that sense. The passion, the obsession, the occasional obstinance.... I like what I hear and the tactical flexibility will appease some of those who moaned about Jose I think. He'll still be a defence-first pragmatist I think, but he appears to tick a lot of boxes for a wide range of supporters.

Yes he does sound like a Jose but i think that's exactly where the similarities stop just sounding like this from the reading I have done he's pretty adaptable gives youth a chance if your good enough your good enough players seem to love him after 3 years something that can't be said for Jose too many falling outs after two seasons
March 19, 201610 yr After reading up on Conte I was worried by the similarities to Jose. Surely the players don't want that kind of intense personality (especially as Guus I'd anything but) and the over analytical approach to each match. But I think the positives far out way any concerns I have: * tactically adaptive * tends to pick players on merit * gives youth a chance * breeds a culture of loyalty in a similar way to Jose * doesn't fall out with the media as often as José did. * astute in the transfer market. * could act as a pull for big name player such as Vidal & Bonnuci * is a strong enough personality that he won't be a Roman yes man I don't really follow Serie A but will be watching Italy closely at the Euros. I'm very positive about his appointment and think that he can create that culture that has given us so much success over the last decade.
March 21, 201610 yr finally a reliable source. https://twitter.com/DiMarzio/status/711981918846263298?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw Edited March 21, 201610 yr by enigma
March 22, 201610 yr OK Chelsea time to show some class. Announce Conte will be the next manager and allow him to start a dialogue with Guus. Then start planning for next season (and beyond).
March 22, 201610 yr What I hope is he has the pull to compete with pep in bringing players to chelsea. Pep is a fantastic coach, but maybe not as aggressive and hungry in persona as conte, so there may well be players who would enjoy being under a coach who motivates the players to be at their best.
March 22, 201610 yr I have not watched italian football since the channel 4 days is he any good? Not very good with team Italy but I guess the Euros will show.

Guardiola is as hungry as they come when it comes to perfection on the pitch. He's obsessive, meticulous and he'll push players to their absolute limits.
March 22, 201610 yr Not very good with team Italy but I guess the Euros will show. Italy are unbeaten in their qualification and finished top of their group. The national team has only lost once under him, in a friendly. He has 56% win ratio. With Juventus his win % was over 67%. Jose's win ratio at Chelsea in his first spell is not as good as Conte's was at Juve, however for direct comparison in the same league, Jose had a win % of 62%, and I am pretty sure most people would say that Jose did OK in Italy. Conte basically rebuilt Juve and took them back to the top of Italian football after years of turmoil. How on earth that is "not very good" is beyond me. Edited March 22, 201610 yr by CFC_RFC_TID!
March 22, 201610 yr Some fans of Italy have criticized him as the results have been dull 1-0's and such. This is what I read somewhere anyway. Fans are divided about him.

March 22, 201610 yr Some fans of Italy have criticized him as the results have been dull 1-0's and such. This is what I read somewhere anyway. Fans are divided about him.1. Italy are never any good on qualifying rounds and friendlies. Even when they had a team full of superstars, they would play pretty dull and unremarkable football in qualification, and then go on to win out seriously compete in the final tournament. Nobody cares about qualifiers in Italy, and fans are ALWAYS divided. They're divided about Lippi and he won them the bloody world cup.2. Italy have the worst team in living memory. Their attacking options are Pelle, Zaza, Immobile and Eder. Expecting champagne football from that front line is a bridge too far, even for a manager like Conte. 3. As someone mentioned, Italy qualified extremely comfortably, so Conte couldn't have done much more with Italy. People aren't really complaining about the on pitch performances, they're complaining about Conte's attitude and off pitch comments. 4. Which brings me to the final point - Conte is a truly great manager, but he's a massive prima donna. He's very similar to Mourinho in that way, but he doesn't have Mourinho's charm. He's nowhere near as despicable as Mourinho either though.
