Antonio Conte - Now Officially Manager

Featured Replies

Can't think of a scarier situation than Don Conte texting me "Good morning" when I wake up...

Next it'll be a Juventus player's head in the bed and christ knows what else

Attack players with SMS every morning? Who needs a manager when you could hire a trigger happy 12 year old who could do 1200 SMS in an hour?  Conte didn't complain about other clubs, he just stated the fact - the transfer market is going crazy. Even Roman has a budget with the FFP restriction, we just couldn't afford a Pogba or Bonucci at 50M. I don't know why some people need to bring Jose up every time, he's working for United now, go to the United forum if you want to worship him.

Exactly. It's pretty evident now that we really were just a stepping stone to bigger and better things in his mind. It's the little things like wearing red trainers and changing his phone cover to suit United colours. It was the job he really wanted after all, I didn't want to believe it but actions speak louder than words.

P.S Did anyone see him refuse to sign that Asian guys Chelsea stuff when United were on tour out in China. Seems pretty petty to me.

Some people claimed that that 'fan' was actually a Spanish football reporter

Do you reckon José knew that just by looking at the guy though?

Well if it was a reporter that Jose had interacted with enough in Spain, I'm sure he could recognise him.

Not to stereotype but hardly looks like your average Spanish journo, could but wrong I guess.

I've learned during this transfer window, especially in the last week or so, that there's some people on this forum better informed about the quality of Serie A players and the value they'd bring to Chelsea than our club's vast scouting network and our three time Serie A title winner and former Italian national team coach.

Who knew?

Well he might take Alonso now but thats after initially chasing the likes of Manolas, Koulibaly, Romagnoli and many more all summer long and no one is going to convince me Conte will be overjoyed over bringing in Marcos Alonso after failing to get any(!) of those. Bet he is quite unhappy with the board actually.

I have SIX Serie A titles on Football Manager.

I still wouldn't have signed Cuadrado, though.

still good stuff & great insight - BTW I was thinking that Cesc & Don Antonio would be a match made from heaven after seeing how Don Antonio turned around Pirlo's career - remember he had came from Milan & everyone was saying that Pirlo was over the hill? Man that guy still has game - always a joy to watch

To be honest, I wouldn't describe any of those quotes as massively insightful. I just really like the idea of Frank asking Pirlo about Conte and then coming to the conclusion that Conte and the club are a perfect match.

Pretty sure he wore blue and white trainers when he was our manager. Whether it was his dream job or not he has good history with Chelsea and would have been hurt at getting sacked a 2nd time. No matter what he achieves with United he would always be first thought of as chelsea first before United. And I certainly won't criticise a manager of a new club at his new club's marketing event signing a shirt of a rival team who happened to just sack him in the open season. I think it's a bit of pettiness to criticise him for that. Sure it'd have cost him nothing but why would he put himself in a vulnerable position i.e target of media and new fans who he was trying to win over at the time.

Well that's one way of looking at it, another way would be that how often are people living in Asia going to have the chance? It was only signing a piece of merchandise, we all have to do things we don't like doing sometimes, it's called life. It's not a Chelsea fans fault what happened with his tenure with us, that's strictly between him, the board and the players. I just don't like it when some tries to disassociate themselves with their past. I guess it's all part of the fickle nature of being in football management.

Perhaps the La Liga Polo shirt and the (what I assume to be) credentials around his neck help gave it away.  Never seen a fan wearing a shirt with the league logo without it being on a club kit.

Maybe but a couple of things jump out at me:

A. Journos normally have their own area behind the barriers, they don't have to deal with the riff raf like us. Would it not be unprofessional and highly unusual for a journo to be acting like a fan boy? Hardly gives off the aura of the know it all journalist.

B. Mourinho isn't managing in Spain, you know how anybody involved in Spanish football thinks it is the best league on the planet, etc. I would assume they are too self involved to be chasing after foreign league managers.

You can look at his sinister stare in the photo, he's just trying to avoid controversy which is fair enough imo.. The appearance of the so called chelsea fan in the middle of MU event reeks suspiciousness, don't you think?

Could be any one of the Daily Mail journos

Yes because people feel emotional attachment to energy providers.... The analogy is a perfect like for like, good spot.

Could be, I agree. Could also be a fan.

Maybe some kind of legal thing, sponsorship, club policy, etc, etc?

Maybe, still rankles me either way. It just adds to the fact that José just acts like he's finally arrived where he wants to be in my eyes. Whatever his feelings regarded board and owner he has to be proud of his achievements while he was here.

Yeah, massive joke mate. God forbid I question or slur the actions of someone else. Basically he's doing a full kit w**ker routine as a manager. If it was someone else half the forum would be mugging them off. I guess José is still beyond reproach?

I get your point about controversy and I agree that's a possibility. I just think that it would have avoided more controversy to play along, sign the f**king shirt instead of having some United heavies 'help' the man from his place in the line.

He wore red shoes so that means he always wanted to be UTD`s manager? you actually believe that? What a ridiculous thing to think. I couldnt give a f**k if it was Mourinho wearing red knickers, Wenger wearing a white jumper or Mao Tse tsung wearing a blue onesie, it means nothing.

Is this like that time everyone went mental at Benitez because he wore a red tie to one of our games?

Wasn't it on his first game managing Chelsea.

So already there's a lot of us unhappy with his appointment and then he wears the colours of his former team on his maiden outing in the Chelsea dug out.

It kind of summed up his mindset to how he approached his time at Chelsea, he didn't want to be here he just wanted to use it as a stepping stone back into top flight management... Good to see that worked out well for him.

l

It fits because Mourinho is not a fan. He is an employee. Employed by a different organisation. If he has emotional feel gs toward Chelsea and the fans he shouldn't show it. Not in that scenario anyway.
