I seem to remember Drog spending half his time rolling about on the floor in his first season or two and he turned out all right.

No you don't, you are just buying into the media and opposition fans narrative of the time, which then stuck as truth.  Say something often enough and people will believe it.  Drogba dropped the diving and rolling very early on in his CFC career, but, hey, why let the facts spoil a good story, eh?

Cobblers. I don't need the media to tell me Drog used to be more than fond of going over far too easy, it was my (and a lot of other Chelsea fans) main critisism of him, especially in his first couple of seasons. It doesn't change the fact he was probably our best striker ever, but I'm not going to put on blue tinted specs and pretend it never happened either.

Fair enough,if that's what you remember.

To be fair Yorkley, I think your age is effecting your memory (or like @just, you have selective memory where The Drogs in concerned!)

He certainly did improve his ways after a few seasons but I can recall many a time where I posted moaning about his antics - rolling about all over the place (and one memorable occasion where he was off the pitch but even rolled back onto it to grab everyone's attention!)

But by the end all was more than forgiven and if Morata can achieve anything like the success that Didier did then we'll all be happy :good2:

Things could be worse in the old age department: I don't remember Drogba's first seasons at all, let alone whether he was on his feet or on his bum.

He did at the beginning, no doubt, i was at SB when we drew 0-0 with Liverpool in the CL Dec 05, most of the MHL were losing patients with him, you could tell he was straight from the continent, one slight touch and the big girls blouse was rolling around in agony.

Didn't take him long to shake that part of his game off, and when he did we saw the best of him.

See. Nibs, that's what I mean.  He was like a little kitten-girl when he first arrived, but it was nowhere near "a few seasons" before he stopped doing anything like that,  but, by then, he had got himself a reputation that the press and the opposition fans never let go.  I just find it sad that some of us in here still repeat the bollocks about it.

and that's my point, not that he didn't do it at first, FFS we could all see that, just that it was nowhere near as bad and as for long as our wonderful media would have you believe.

The rolling back onto the pitch got him SO much derision that it might have partly triggered him starting to grow up and man up.  That, and one I remember when he got tackled and seemed to roll over and over in an attempt to beat the world rolling over record by at least 200 yards.  And he came dam close, too.

He had a pretty good start to his Chelsea career even tough the experts felt he wouldn't, even managed to bang a hat trick. He was poor against Watford but do we really expect him to be good every game?

I think it was towards the end of his second season when drogba started staying on his feet a bit more, I remember he was coming infor some heavy critism about diving, and he actually said in post match interview sometimes he dives, which was jumped on by the media. I think that was the catalyst for him to stay on his feet more and use his brute strength. That was 2006, and he came close to going to ac milan that summer aswell. He ended up staying and hit 30 goals the following season, and the rest is history!

edit: here it is

Hopefully morata figures out in England, strength can be more rewarding, than maybe it would be on the the continent, where fouls are more forthcoming.

Some players just don't change though. Look at Costa, for a supposed big and strong guy, he was always going down with the slightest touch, especially when things weren't going well for him. Morata comes across smarter than Costa though so let's hope he cut's it out of his game quickly.

an italian media outlet reporting about a player wanting to return to italy shocker. god, the media are really digging this season aren't they. first conte's interview, now morata's lol

not exactly a flush amount of strikers out there as it is, so him wanting to leave would put us in a precarious position. i agree conte was probably the main driving force behind him wanting to come here. obviously i think we would all like to hope tammy starts banging them in for the next 2 seasons and then return here as no.2 or even no.1 choice depending on the situation, but nothing is guaranteed. conte isn't a sure thing to be here in the next year or two also, so who knows what may be.

I read it that he was quite keen to move out to a mansion in  leafy Surrey, just like @Davey Baby

Exactly my thoughts, the comments of a player who’s been in the country for 2 minutes doing an interview in his second language then has them taken out of context and blown out of proportion. Our media wouldn’t do a thing like that would they?
