Maka was oh so good in the role but imo Kante is equal to the task and blessed with more pace

I think Costa and Luiz have been better.  I'd say he and Hazard should both make the team of the season though.

Read some really interesting analysis here on how Kante's performance (and stats) have evolved since he joined us. Interesting to see his defensive stats down but his passing completion rate significantly increasing. For me he should be player of the season but he's not trendy enough unfortunately.

He totally need to get more recognition. I think he's the best player in his position right now!

Best player in the league for me, I'll get out in front of those that would typically say no because he doesn't pass as well or dribble as well as xyz answer to that is xyz dont protect a back line like kante, don't tackle or intercept the ball as well as Kante and I can't think of anyone doing there job to a higher stammered and more consistently then this man on the league right now

It will probably go to Ibra - he's the flashy choice. If it was up to me I'd no doubt choose Kante - a monster of a player. Good analysis in that article - that's quite an improvement in passing statistics.

I've seen a fee people banging on about Herrera having superior statistics - give me a break.

He is an immense player, but the majority of his game is played without the ball, his biggest asset is his ability to constantly disrupt the ball holder. We know how important he has been to the team, but like you say he won't get the vote because players who do what he does don't win the individual trophies they should. 

Hazard has his name on a few individual trophies this season, no player in the league is near him, Ibra has scored a few goals, but so has Costa, but nobody does what Hazard does.

Who gets more credit? Leicester for uncovering his talent, or us buying us for what seems like a bargain?

I bet Leicester are ruing selling him - he was important to their system than perhaps anyone realised and it is telling that two separate players (Mendy and Ndidi) have been unable to replicate his impact. 

IMO, Costa has been slightly better this season, but Kante is second place with Hazard. 

Beyond them, it is hard to pick between Luiz, Azpi, Cesc, Courtois and Moses. Pedro will be up there if he continues playing well too. 

Simply stated: look where we are with him, compared to Leicester without.

 

I know that's completely over simplifying things, but i think there is some substance behind it (ignoring that we have the obvious Conte effect to add)

Luiz is able to do what he does because of Kante's effectiveness in front of him, among other things. Kante over Luiz for me. Costa has also been a bit inconsistent over the past 5 games or so. But he's scored in his last two (counting the FA Cup match) so I hope he's about to pick up his form again.

When I look at him I'm always smiling, it's impossible to hate him.

A very rare oddity in football, in that he seems to have no ego whatsoever. Just gets on with his football. Hope he stays for a long time.

thanks for that link - one of the most amazing things that I gather from that article was this

So Kante has even improved his performance by joining CFC - not sure if it's because of better players around him or he has learned from experience - probably the signing of the season

Those stats are slightly misleading, we play a completely different style then Leicester did last year. Much more ball control and not quite so direct. Leicester had one of the lowest pass completion % last year.

Agree Mane has been great this season but Sterling hasn't been anywhere close to Hazard. 

Hazard has scored the same number of goals as mane, Hazard has 3 more assists. And even with a low output run of form is outperforming sterling.

But as usual, you only need to put in a shift in the preceding week to be considered better than peers.

Both their teams have relied heavily on those players to do more each game to get them to the lofty heights of fourth and third, this season.

 

I think Kante will win. There is a massive appreciation for his talents and I think without a very clear outstanding attacking player (Zlatan maybe didn't do himself any favours with that elbow and like Mane is great but hasn't elevated his team to be title challengers, Hazard won it before and isn't as consistent with goals / assists) there might be a reaction to vote for the person who is clearly excelling in his role. 

He would be my vote for sure and it would be nice to see a non attacking player to get it.
