Marcos Alonso

surely conte would have seen a potential wing back in rahman when he saw one in moses... ...

To be honest, I think Baba is too much of a lightweight for the PL, maybe he just needs more time, dunno, lets see.

When we have enjoyed the luxury of Ash for so many years, it's too easy to dismiss subsequent left sided signings.

I agree, though we had a natural successor in Felipe Luis, probably the player i most regret leaving us considering when he did play for us on those few occasions he looked great, and he'd be perfect in our left wing back position

Felipe Luis is a very good player but he did not play well at Chelsea, plenty of occasions where he seemed to lose concentration, although with Jose's shenanigans who knows why he left. I think Alonso is pretty decent and Luiz and himself have been astute bargain buys at this stage.

Decent LWB, but he still worries me defensively. Think he is a decent squad filler, but i do think we need to look for an upgrade LWB to push us even further especially for next year.

Bit worrying that we have spent the best part of £45 odd million on two left backs that some don't think will ever cut it at the top.

Four clean sheets on the bounce and poor old Marcos is still getting a kicking.

Think people want him to be more of an impact like Moses, but for me Alonso was a good signing and at a fair price. Funny how players that aren't "superstars" usually do great for us. Best example would probably be Azpilicueta, i for one who rarely watch the French league have heard of him before but never seen him play. f**king hell we got him for 7 mill :laugh2:

Well, disregarding the critical role he has played in enabling our new system to function so successfully, he did have a very dodgy first 5 minutes in Sunday's match. And he would not do very well if we played him in a different position to which we specifically signed him to play in. At least that's my understanding of it.

I was gutted Luis went back to Spain and didn't become our permanent LB, with Dave moving to RB and Ivan being dropped, crazy decision, just can't get my head round it.

Ok so maybe he wanted a move back to AM but we didn't help ourselves by letting him sit on the bench much of the season, he looked very good whenever he was on the field.

Sticking with Ivan as we know turned out to be a huge mistake.

Any idea how he is tracking besides that?

He's been on the bench quite a bit but been pretty steady whenever he has played, stood out a couple of times.

I dare say if we worked our way up the league we'd find we could say the same about every team's LB.

I hear on the grapevine that we could probably get Alberto Moreno on the cheap.

I think you're exaggerating Davey. Admittedly I'm yet to be entirely convinced by Alonso, but so far he has done a decent if unspectacular job.

Definitely a weak spot in our team at the moment. Nothing wrong with him just not as good as the rest of them. it's pretty clear what positionshould need upgrading.

Unfortunately I have to agree.

His celebration tho :laugh2:

Reckon the lads gave it to him a bit after the match for that one. So happy for him though.

Most hilariously uncoordinated celebration ever. :laugh2:

ATM though he's outperforming my expectations. Bolasie outpaced him a couple of times, but overall this was probably his best performance.

Maybe he read this forum because he was top notch in defending today. Players like Bolasie gave him no trouble at all. His best performance of the season so far.

Agree, his best performance so far. Was very good defensively, always involved in every attack and could finish with an assist to Moses.
