Pasalic will probably be loaned out to Real Betis, hasn't quite impressed enough, looks like we definitely need one more midfielder.

If we're looking at another 4 players we need to get a shift on with the CS next weekend and the season starting in a couple of weeks. 

 

I'm not talking about me being impatient and wanting a new signing but in terms of having the squad in place for the start of the season, we're running out of time to get that many bodies in. 

 

That's if we are actually after four more players! I'm excited about the squad we have, kind of just want the season to start now!

Yeah, we need time for the new signings to gel and get up to speed. This time around the leaks are very minimal but I hope the board haven't stopped their negotiations

We have Morata, Batman, Abraham and Ubgo on our books as CFs. Solanke shouldnt be missed to much.

I've tried to stay quite calm this summer and not get too involved in silly season. Have to admit though I'm starting to worry now ahead of the season starting a week today.

Although I'm quite happy with the core group, I'd like a top top wb in there ideally. The depth is almost as bad as I can ever remember, and there's absolutely no excuse when we have the loan army. I just can't get my head around why we have said goodbye to so many decent squad players before bringing any new depth in! If we don't sign 3-4 players before champions league kicks in I think we could be in for a rough season.

So the summer break is nearly over.

Really would like us to strengthen the squad a bit more with the CL coming up. I can see us struggling at the moment given the amount of extra ground we have to cover this year.

Just did a quick count of the squad right now and right now we have 15 outfield players that are likely to stay with us this season. 16 if you count Musonda.

Is that the smallest squad we have ever had going into august? It's incredible how poor we have been at recruiting. We'll likely have over 60 games to play this season, and the squad is right now a lot thinner than it was heading into last season when we basically just had the league to worry about.

Without a couple of decent players we´ll struggle with this tiny squad. We´ve got so much money over the last year to make it easy to get 3 or 4 very good players at least. If we don´t do that, we won´t make it this year and about the CL I better say nothing. Are we going to become Arsenil II ?

Shocking lack of depth, we'll surely have to bring in more players, I wish we would sign a few before we sell half the squad, but apparently not. Looking forward to seeing the bench in a couple of weeks.

Well yes, but then you go back to 1965/66 and Liverpool used 14 players all season to win the 42 game Div 1 title, and have a 9 game European run as well.

So I guess it can be done, and man for man, our acquisitions vs our leavers have on face value made us stronger e.g. Rudiger vs Terry, Christensen vs Zouma, Bakayoko vs Matic, Morata vs Solanke, Caballero vs Begovic,  probably Baker instead of RLC, and Musonda instead of Kenedy. Just need another left wingback really, although that could always be Kenedy again, or even back to Dave :-)

Yes, but that was over 50 years ago, the game has changed so much since then. No way could you win that much with such a small squad these days.

i dunno why, but that simple statement tickled me. maybe it's the realisation of losing players left and right, and all i can do is laugh.

Our bench without injuries currently consists of: Willy, Rudiger, Christensen, Kenedy, Tomori, Pasalic, Fabregas, Baker, Boga, Musonda, Pedro/Willian, Bats and Remy

Rudiger, Christensen, Fabregas, Willian/Pedro and Bats would start for most teams in the league.
Pasalic would start for all but the top 8/9. 
It isn't that weak a bench. 

Can it be improved, yes but so can every squad. 
We do lack decent WB cover but I can see Azpi playing RWB as the season goes on especially if we decide to play Fabregas more. So realistically we are a LWB short of a very strong squad, and a LWB, RWB, CM and ST short of an amazing squad.

Kenedy after the PR disaster is a bit of a shout and Azpi can't really beat his man

Pasalic is on his way out, Tomori and Baker will never get any meaningfull minutes from Conte. We are looking at a bench of Fab, Willian and Rüdiger and then Musonda/Boga as our only attacking options for the first month or so. No matter how you try to stay positive, thats not going to cut it with the extra CL games. Its no wonder Conte sounds more and more pissed by the day
