April 21, 20188 yr Delighted to hear they got less than we offered. Serves them right. They will get 20% sell on fee and they're still not happy. Who's greedy?

It makes me wonder why we try to run an academy when we only get a pittance for a player of this quality. You have done yourselves no favours at all with regard to your public relations - you could have paid a fair fee in the first instance. Equally it shows just how Tribunals can be bullied by the Premiership. You got what you deserved. We offered £3m and you greedy lot turned it down and the tribunal has ruled a lower fee. The value of these players come from what they have achieved before the transfer. Before he came to Chelsea he had a handful of league 2 appearances and that was it. Dele Alli for example had played 80+ games in league 1 and scored a number of goals and only went for £5m. If you think you deserve any more than what you got you should give your head a wobble.
April 22, 20188 yr Whats the problem ? If he turns out to be a World class player, we will only have him for a few years, then Citeh, RM or PSG will come in for him in 3-5 years with £150m offer, then Exter City will get £30m. If he fails they get £2.5m. Sounds fair to me.

I'm a bit embarrassed by the tone of some of the posts on here. Rightly out wrongly, we'd pissed off if some bigger club took our best prospect for a pittance. It's worked out well for us, no need to be dicks about it.

They made an offer to Exeter who weren't happy with it, it went to an independent tribunal who put a figure on him, we pay it. Something that happens all the time, and in fact has happened to us.

Don't quote me as being a dick when i am only being realistic, Ampadu has broke into our u23 team, that's it, he's not smashed his way into our first team, so stop getting hissy.

Looks like he's now behind Danny Ings in the pecking order too. No goals in 23 appearances this season (albeit late subs for the most part). Tammy Abraham's modest 8 goals in 36 appearance looks to be the better prospect at the moment.

Where did I say the club did anything wrong? I'm not an expert on these things so deliberately avoided sharing my uninformed opinion but you seem to have made one up for me regardless. I'm actually well aware of the sequence of events, but thanks anyway. That bit was more directed at the posts preceding yours - maybe that wasn't very clear. I was only quoting you to disagree with your suggestion that Ampadu will either be world class or a failure when most players fall somewhere in-between.

However these tribunal fees are set by what they had achieved before their transfer. We're rumoured to be getting 3mil for a player that was top scorer pretty much every season he was here for the youth. Won the Euro's with the U17's and WC with U20's whilst winning the golden ball in the process. Is this really worth only £500k more than someone that had played a handful of games in league 2?

Who knows? There doesn't seem to be a whole lot of transparency about how they determine the fee at a tribunal. Do achievements for youth sides count for anything? Apparently not. I mean, Sturridge is one of the most expensive players to come out of a tribunal and it appears to be because he had a fairly significant amount of first team experience.
August 8, 20187 yr The more I see of this boy the more I like. A future captain in the making, I hope we keep and give him chances this season.
August 8, 20187 yr Love that he looks so assured, vocal and confident. Looks like a natural leader. Hoping that we manage him well and integrate him into the first team squad.
August 8, 20187 yr I think his anticipation and positioning are going to cost him at some point this season but he's only a teenager so no need to be worried too much going forward. He's class and in 2 years if he and Christiansen aren't our starting CBs we should be ashamed. Edited August 8, 20187 yr by TheChelseaBlues
August 8, 20187 yr I noticed his feet seem pretty big. Not that this is vital input for this thread Anyway, he was my man of the match. Edited August 8, 20187 yr by Valerie

August 8, 20187 yr He's a fantastic player ! Remember me a little bit Cannavaro. I have never seen such a strong central defender at 18. He just must improve technically, but he will be a top player in the next 15 years.
August 8, 20187 yr I would start Ampadu ahead of Luiz on Saturday. He's been the better player in pre season. I would also start Hudson-Odoi too. I don't care that they are young, they look good enough now.

I do agree he needs to play this season and not just in the cups but Arsenal's youth were impressive in their preseason friendlies too - the level of intensity will be completely different on Saturday in what should be a physical game. It may actually be unfair to him to play because I think he's already at risk of serious injury if he plays like he did last night. He needs to play but under the right circumstances. August 8, 20187 yr Gets dragged out of position quite a bit. Noticed it a few times yesterday and left huge holes in the back line. Tactically he'll learn though.
September 6, 20187 yr I'm watching Wales v Ireland and Ampadu has already shown quality. He is asking continuously for the ball and his range of passes is great. I think he will starting ahead of Luiz in a not too long distance, hopefully this season.
