April 18, 20188 yr Just be thankful we didn't sign Bobby Tables, or it would have gone on for much longer.
April 18, 20188 yr Aren't we also going to a tribunal for solankes fee? So there will be rules to follow that will count no matter the size of club. Oh and sql can go f**k itself.
April 18, 20188 yr Reading on Exeter’s website the fee won’t be known for a few weeks. I hope it’s a fair deal for them seeing as he’s already around our first team and an international.

He was starting to be a first choice player for them and we pinched him off of them, they deserve to receive a good fee from us and I wouldn't begrudge them it. £10m? No chance. £5m would be too much imo. He's a 17 year old lad ffs.

We paid over £8m through tribunal for Sturridge and that was what, nine years ago? Given the rapid inflation of transfer fees I don’t think it’s unreasonable to think the fee could be £10m for Ampadu when you consider that even at 17 he’s already capped at international level for Wales.

Sturridge already had 20+ premier league apps and 5 premier league goals when we signed him. Ampadu had less than 15 apps in league 2? I think he only made his Wales debut once he was with us so that won't be in Exeter's favour as they decide the fee as where he was at in his development/career before he came here. Dele Alli had 80+ apps in league one and only cost £5m. Look at the Solanke debacle, Liverpool want to pay £3m for a player that won the England youth player of the year and won golden ball at the U20 Euro's.

If you want a daily price for reconfiguring your network or recovering your crashed Oracle database, then I'm your man. A decent price, taking into account his talent and potential as well as his age and experience. Maybe take a comparative look at similar products Who would we compare him to? I can't think of any 17 year old lower league players that have been bought by a big clubs.
April 20, 20188 yr So the Tribunal has ruled that it's £2.5m max for Ethan, plus 20% of any sell on fee. £1.3m now and up to another £1.2m based on appearances. Good result for us !
April 20, 20188 yr We've managed to rob Exeter with that fee. I was expecting it to be double at least double that. I'm not complaining, the lad is already a good player and would play for a lot of PL sides already and hes not 18 until September.
April 20, 20188 yr Its pretty appalling and you gotta feel for Exeter. You can't blame either side for trying to get the best deal but the Panel have robbed Exeter of a decent Fee. Hopefully we get them in the FA Cup some time and can repay with tv revenue fees etc.
April 20, 20188 yr Exeter fan here and the feeling is that we have totally been shafted. It makes me wonder why we try to run an academy when we only get a pittance for a player of this quality. You have done yourselves no favours at all with regard to your public relations - you could have paid a fair fee in the first instance. Equally it shows just how Tribunals can be bullied by the Premiership.

I think it is only right that all clubs look out for themselves commercially and of course, want to protect their own interests. That said, I dont think that you will find too many on here who wont agree that Exeter have been hard done by as a result of the tribunal outcome. I would certainly have preferred for Chelsea and Exeter to have reached an agreement of a reasonable amount, reflecting both the risk and potential. With that in mind, something around 5 - 7 million would have suited. Out of interest, do you have any idea what your club were asking for? I also felt gutted when we "lost" solanke to liverpool for a small sum, given that we had coached him from a young age, and that he was already experienced having been loaned overseas. These tribunals often seem to under value....or we, as fans, seem to over value.....difficult to fathom who is right!

I think that we were being entirely reasonable with our demands - it was certainly less than £5m, and, knowing that the Tribunal usually reduces this to a midway point. What I can't understand is that you apparently only offered a couple of hundred thousand!! What's that, a week's wages for some of your so called stars?

If that was the case it would surely have been brought up at the Tribunal and would have been your starting point. Your chairman wrote in reply to a question from one of our fans, and it was here that the couple of hundred thousand was apparently mentioned.
April 20, 20188 yr I wouldn't say it's an unfair fee, Ampadu hasn't proved anything before he came to Chelsea. The comparison to Sturridge is not really fair as he had played quite a few game for City over 3 seasons, Ampadu played 8 league games for a league 2 side. If you time warped Ampadu back to 2009 he probably would've cost £150k

Oldham sold Wayne Harrison to Liverpool for 250k in 1985. At the time it was a huge fee for a largely untried kid who was 17 at the time. He had played at a higher level than Ampadu. Wayne didn't train on and never made it at the top. His career was cut short by injury aged 23. The point is we have signed potential, he may go on to be a world beater ,similarly in 5years he could be playing non league on a part time basis. Desire and attitude as much as talent will decide at what level Ampadu finishes. The fee awarded by the tribunal appears to be small judging on what we have seen. They though will only go on known facts at the time of transfer. As a measure of goodwill I'd like to think we could offer Exeter some of our youths on loan as they clearly would use them to good effect benefiting both clubs. Footnote: Wayne Harrison died in 2013, just shows none of us know what will happen in life.
April 21, 20188 yr While I thought he looked pretty mature for us I don't really see anything special in Ampadu. Obviously can't judge him yet due to his limited game time and young age, but if I'd have to guess right now I wouldn't say he'll become a starter for us.
April 21, 20188 yr Strange how straight away everyone has decided Chelsea are the ones in the wrong here, with no knowledge of what's gone on at all. There's as much chance that we made a fair offer that was turned down, yet we are immediately cast as evil. Sigh.
April 21, 20188 yr Dele Alli cost £5m and he was older, better performing, playing in a higher standard and at higher value position. Half of that for a younger defender seems about right.
