November 22, 20178 yr Pretty good performance, good for Willian to be involved plenty tonight as he's had a difficult season, hope this gives him a confidence boost. Scandalous that we're playing on Saturday when we've had such a lengthy trip but hopefully the fact the team didn't even have to break a sweat will help matters, bring on the dippers
November 22, 20178 yr Good result, never got out of second gear and saved some legs for Saturday. Just need Atletico to do us a favour now. To top it off the bin dippers didn’t have it easy last night.
November 22, 20178 yr Great win tonight, team played well and William had a great game bagging two goals hopefully that will give him more confidence for the next games, 3 clean sheets in a row now very good from Tibo, the defence change is proven to be a good move, well done lads bring on the scouse on the weekend

Chelsea v PSG IV Manure, spuds, citeh and dippers, if they all finish top of their groups, may face : Bayern, Juve, Real or Napoli. It can go like this : Manure vs Juve Citeh vs Real Spuds vs Bayern Dippers vs Napoli Chelsea vs besiktas if we finish second haha ^^!
November 22, 20178 yr Annoyed I had a PT session at 6pm as I’d thought it was a normal kick off! I’m just watching it back now, Qarabag were lucky to not go down to 9 men in my opinion. When Pedro went past the man outside the box and the referee pulled it back. He was last man and it was outside the box (no one was covering, proven by the fact Pedro still got to it first) and according to the rule change this year, I believe that should have actually been a red card. Our second goal was absolutely delightful!

A win and we can avoid PSG for now. so what, real possibility of playing either Bayern, Juve or Real Madrid next round - IMHO winning the Group only guarantees the 2nd leg to be played at home & with those 3 that isn't much of an advantage Edited November 22, 20178 yr by robdog

Real's hit and miss form means there's a chink in the armor somewhere. Bayern's a problem atm because Heynckes is back. Possibly the strongest of all 3 but they've declined a bit so could potentially be got at. These 3 aren't as strong as their previous years. The likelihood that we draw Besiktas is slim, and knowing our luck, we might draw PSG early on. They're on fire atm, if we can delay meeting them, at least it allows the scouting team more data on them provided we eventually meet them.
November 22, 20178 yr So funny that Roma lost. What a crazy group this has been. Great performance on what was actually quite a tricky away game. If we had lost, it would have created some pressure.

Neither are the team that they once were. We'd definitely lose to PSG and would likely lose to Barca so would be praying for Besiktas - who look much better than you'd think. They could also play Basel, Sevilla, Donesk (if Napoli dont finish runners up) or Porto. Also Juventus and Bayern dont look that good, id rather those two than PSG or Barca. Id actually prefer Juve to Besiktas. I'd fancy us to actually lose to Besiktas. They have looked incredibly strong in the games i've watched of them.

I would fancy us vs Barca, the ain't been as good as the results suggest. PSG and City are the major threats, hopefully they draw eachother in the quarters leaving 1 less of them to worry about if we make it.

November 23, 20178 yr I'm surprised by how easily we won. I expected Qarabag to put up stouter resistance after their heroics vs Atletico Madrid but nothing doing. Two silly penalties were given away (the red card was correct too because it was a professional foul and the defender made no attempt to win the ball), Willian finished off a great team move and then scored one of his long-range specials. As far as I can tell we also never really got out of second gear. Glad to have qualified after Roma lost, now we should look to top the group. Edited November 23, 20178 yr by DaRick
November 23, 20178 yr Looks like the Chels is back in London. Plane landed 03:45 GMT at Gatwick, almost an hour ago. Glad to have the lads back safe after such a long journey and fabulous 4-0 result. Get some rest mates. Hopefully you got some on the 6 hour flight back. Need to re-energize for Saturday. Come on you Chelsea!!
November 23, 20178 yr I thought the red was really harsh. If the ref is giving a pen, then should make it a point to give a yellow along with it, unless the foul was reckless/violent. A good performance, though the game was pretty much done and dusted with that decision itself. Qualification is done, only thing left is topping the group. But for that to happen, we need to WIN against ATM. Roma will get a win against Qarabag, a draw for us will put us on the same number of points, but due to poor H2H, we will be 2nd.

I thought it was correct simply because it was a professional foul where the defender made no real attempt to win the ball, plus he was the last man and impeding an obvious goal-scoring opportunity? Agree that you wouldn't often see those given in England though. Kompany's foul on Vardy on Saturday was far more egregious.
November 23, 20178 yr Nice to see Willian back on song.Very professional performance from the team.Definate penalty and red (he knew what he was doing) ,but amazed the ref was brave enough to give it.The away win in Madrid was so important.I wont worry about the draw just yet as there is a long way to go.Well done for qaulifying from a difficult group ..... UP THE CHELS !

More on the nature of the punishment itself. Giving a penalty is equivalent to the obvious goal-scoring opportunity. The foul was a professional foul, but not an ashley barnes foul. I personally feel that these double penalties (red + penalties) are very harsh. So would normally like a penalty + yellow given inside the box and red given outside. Just my point of view.

It may seem harsh, but it's fair, as the last defender they have the responsibility of making the call, foul him or leave him ? the choice is theirs. What would make it seem entirely more fairer, if they red carded players who dive in the penalty area, look at Palace the weekend for prime example of how a cheating diver can affect a games outcome.

Its just the rules, you cant have too many grey areas. He made no attempt to play the ball and just wanted to foul, so a red and penalty. I have a problem with red carding divers, i have a problem with yellow carding them as well. Fabregas got booked for diving against west brom in the box, but he didnt dive. Now he has to carry that yellow card with him through the season and he had to be more careful during the game. Divers should be banned for 3 games after the match, shouldnt be punished in game. Impossible for a ref to be 100% certain in most situations.
November 23, 20178 yr It is the rules. If you foul a player being the last man and stopping a clear chance of goal, it is a red. No matter how dangerous or mild is the foul. Now, I am not sure that was a foul, it was a very soft penalty and no matter how many times I saw it repeated, I still don't see it clearly. They talked about the defender pulling the arm of William, but I don't see it being as clear, persistent and destabilising as the second penalty. Happy with the win, though. We need to win Atléti to top the group.
