Looks average at best. And whoever said Marcus is just all about free kicks is clearly just taking the piss. Good job he's a Chelsea player because we'd be most definitely sweating our bullocks off it wasn't for some of his goals this year. Strong candidate for Chelsea player of the year.

Alonso player of the year? I think he's been very hit and miss this season.

Not entirely his fault though since he has been run into the ground. But he has been nowhere near our best player this season.

With this signing, we can close Sandro's transfer and wave to Baba Rahman.

I used to like Emerson before his injuries, I also thought he had a good talent and potential to become a very good LWB\LB, he was excellent but with few injuries, he didn't play regularly. Can't really say how good he is today, he is still young and of course, can play for us. For 20m would be a funny price, but I still prefer us to give Baba Rahman a chance to play.

Barely in my top 5.  Hazard, Christensen, Kante, Azpilicueta, Alonso in no particular order.  Could argue Rudiger has been better overall this year.

“I don’t remember Palmieri [from his time in Italy] because he only came to Italy last season [actually 2015], when he had an important season for Rome,” added Conte. “Then he had a bad injury. He broke his ligaments. Now he’s recovering. I don’t know if he’s ready to play. I know that he played only one game in the Italian Cup against Torino. But we are talking about a player of another team in this moment.”

Well, ringing endorsement from Conte!  I know some of it is standard and he's hardly likely to say much else, but he seems doubtful that Emerson is ready to go (and perhaps is stung by Barkley).  I do worry a bit about recovery time and whether he'll get back to previous levels.  You'd have hoped we have early scouts gauging fitness and a medical inside track so we have at least a guess on how he'll fare.  Pulling out due to a medical would seem to typify us right now.

I think it's between Azpi, Andreas and Marcos. Don't be surprised if Marcos wins it.

And as for this Palmeri guy. Meh.

I have absolutely no idea how you can watch him play and think..meh.

If you look at his highlights video, and you didn´t know it was him, you could swear it was Alex Sandro, because their playing style are ridiculously similar, but because it´s him and not Sandro, people will call him average, when every single person who has watched him claim the contrary.

He is not a certainty because of his injury, but for f**ks sake, stop calling him average because he is anything but.

Alonso not that great either, its only his fantastic free kicks that make him look better than he is. If i remember correctly Fiorentina fans weren't exactly disappointed he was leaving to us where as Roma fans seem to rate this lad.

Are you joking? He's a fantastic player.

Is he? i dont. I think he's a good player nothing more nothing less.

Well, there isn't anything I can really do to prove it, I could show you match ratings, it isn't that credible, I could show you 10 minutes montages of just his skills/take-ons in a season alone but a montage is a montage.

But for someone who isn't that fast, he makes up for it with his skill.

He has the best-attacking score out of all fullbacks-wingbacks in the league. 2nd highest chances created out of any fullback in the league, 26, Kieran Trippier has 28 who is first.

Overall I would say Alonso is the best LWB in the league, and I don't think he's been at his best this season but he's still very solid despite playing almost every game. Unless Mendy proves himself to be great that is, but I still go with Alonso, that is entirely subjective of course. But from what I've seen I just can't believe so many of our own supporters don't rate him or Moses, they're both fantastic wide players.

This isn't directed at anyone specific, just something I've noticed about some Chelsea fans on Twitter.
I'm fed up of them sh*tting on Alonso all the time, it doesn't matter what stats you bring up, how successful he's been for us and how much better he's been than other left backs in the league, they constantly insult him.
I wanted Sandro for competition, so I'll happily take Palmieri but for me, Marcos has been a great player for us and even if he did just half of what he's done in the time he's been with us, he'd have still defied expectations.

I know Jamie Carragher recently said he was wrong about Alonso and that he's been a fantastic signing.

Hopefully, we get the same with Palmieri.

The very best clubs in Europe would be all over this man if he became available. Class act. Always enjoy watching Marcus play.

Also, teams better be very careful where on the field they commit fouls against Chelsea. At the minute from free kicks, Marcus is becoming lethal.

Looks real! Can't wait to have the best No.33 in the league! (If you don't count Gabriel Jesus)
