You make a good point, where has that Chelsea been all season? The energy, the commitment, the will to win and keep the ball out of the net. If that had been there all season, then we wouldn't be struggling for top 4, we would be comfortably 2nd at least. The players clearly love playing in the Champions League, well if they want to play in it again next season, then they need to get their act together in the league.

I think the players and manager let the lacklustre summer transfer window affect them too much.

Or maybe it's because the level in the prem has stepped up massively and the Spanish clubs are in decline slightly with ageing key players. Weve played the top two in spain this season so far and we looked good in both games, despite looking absolute bollocks at times in our league.

Maybe. There just seemed to be more energy in the team compared to what we have been seeing in a lot of games in the league this season.

They were build up play attempts from the top of the box.  Those are chances, they aren't 30 yard bangers.  The goal itself was off a corner that found him unmarked at the top of the box.  That's a very good chance and well taken.  Took magic sure but if you're looking to walk the ball in every time to qualify as a "chance" you will find very little chances.

The first two was all Willian, the last one was a short corner which happens if we have a forward or false 9, they are bloody frustrating. Near the end of the game we have a dangerous free kick, got a big forward on with the defenders up, just swing the f**king ball in but no it goes short to Kante who does a pea roller wide. Need to stop the obsession with the short corners.

I wouldn't like to play that Athletico team now, much better team than earlier in the season. I said to a few people they could come back in the league, conceded just 9 goals and have there new signings. They will have to spend that Griezman money well though in the summer.

No European football to play now helps, easier for them to rest players and come good in the league like we did last season.

They are playing in the Europa, they played last week and now this week, I think Thursdays to Sunday's are harder.

Wisey and ian wright were on sky debate show broadcast ((and been on repeat since) after the game and both put blame at conte's door and I agreed with them...all this whinging about signings and who he didn't get etc not only must piss off players in dressing room (he's saying they're not good enough), but secondly he still has players good enough not to lose to Burnley, palace, West Ham, Bournemouth and Watford.so has no excuse really.....wisey kept stressing 'that's 15 points gone, 15 points against sides chelsea's should be beating. Add that to current tally and they'd be right there with city'.

as I said elsewhere in forum, Conte was magic last season (and showed his quality last night), but his attitude has stunk since the summer even if board have bought some (doesn't apply to all) players he doesn't rate that highly.

Guy's let's be positive we have beaten way better Barcelona teams so everyone writing us off will get a surprise. We need to score first, if we do, I think we will go on to score more goals, however we need a forward to hold up the ball. #ComeOnChelsea!!!

Looking at that Barca forum, it boggles my mind how much some of them hate their manager, Jesus Christ, they've basically wrapped up the league.

In Spain, you must be able to play with style as well as get results.

Completely different culture.

Ray Wilkins: "Stamford Bridge was like a morgue last night"

He must be back on the beers, either that or it's the selective hearing that comes with being an attention seeking tosser. Quite liked him when Carlo was here but over the last few years he's been nothing short of an embarrassment and to criticise the atmosphere last night is nonsensical.

He has long caught the anti Chels flue........to come out and say the crowd were silent is as ridiculous as seeing a cat fly. Can you people imagine if utd or pool did what we did last night?

Very proud of last nights performance. Players and coach deserve our praise. We were so well organised and everyone put in a massive shift. Talking to some people today (non Chelsea and neutrals) and they said it was the best game they've seen this season. I thought so too. Like most people I wasn't too sure about the line up but it worked. At the very least we've made the second leg meaningful and we're not out of it yet. Special mention on Moses who I thought was brilliant. I also thought our defence were stronger looking than 2012 where we were living on our wits (mind you we were down to 10 men).

Super stuff.

Oh, I completely agree with you on this one.

Barcelona (with the exception of Messi) are a detestable club. Suarez, Alba, Busquets, Vidal are the worst culprits and it hasn't taken Umtiti long to become ingrained in that sort of mentality. I know we've done it in the past when it comes to surrounding the referee but there's truly not a worse team in football for it than Barca. Trying to get Rudiger sent off along with Suarez tripping over his own feet to fool the referee into giving him a penalty to Umtiti clutching his face when he hadn't been touched.

The referee was appalling last night but I think as Chelsea fans, we're used to it by now against them lot. It'll be even worse at the Camp Nou.

Haha, it's fine Coco. I know! :Connie_threaten::laugh2:

The fact we have a song about it says it all really.

That's the most annoying thing for me. If Liverpool had been playing them last night at Anfield with the exact same atmosphere as us, he'd be on there talking about the special European night atmosphere that the scousers had. Clown

No doubt my friend......they would bring up the intensity, press play, super tactics, great team-play, how klopp is a revelation and of course the atmosphere. But this is Chels, so it went like this: dead crowd, majour mistake not playing a striker, Conte a disgrace for not doing so, full on forcus on our boys error, Conte has his bags packed incase we sack him and on and on. We are Chels.....and we are hated.

2 reasons why they hate us: we dared bust their darlings up one after the other.........and a russian owner.

Adrian Durham upto his usual crap either has an opinion that can’t be changed or just for effect to attract calls. He drives HIS opinion as the right answer when as a presenter he should just put it out for discussion with the callers. Either way makes him sound stupid. ”The Champions of England should have a go against Barcelona at home” “it’s Embarrassing” There is a difference between team selection and tactics. He didn’t like those either. We scored, hit the post twice had one free kick over and one saved. They scored one goal from a mistake, which team selection or tactics can’t help.

We could have gone with a striker and got a better result but we might also have lost. Hindsight is a wonderful thing, at least we are still in it going into the second leg.

Was really pleased with the way we went out with a game plan and were so close to pulling it off to perfection. It was of course gutting to concede a goal in the way that we did but sh*t happens and we'll come away knowing they scored by our mistake, not because they broke us down. We defended as a team and moved up the pitch as a team, it was great to see everyone playing their part and showing great discipline.

1-1 is a good result in my eyes, yes we need to score at an incredibly hard stadium to go to, but I feel we are a team that prefer to rise to an occasion than go through the motions. Being the underdog has never been an issue for Chelsea and I love that this tie is still there to be taken. We have more than enough quality going forward to hurt them and if we can keep calm and disciplined we've all seen what can happen in years gone by. It's going to be a massive battle but that's what the CL is all about!
