June 22, 20233 yr I think it'll be Silva next season with Reece to follow! Kepa is vocal though! Remember that time when he was on the bench and up giving Kai instructions who was coming on as a sub

Remember that time when he was on the bench and up giving Kai instructions who was coming on as a sub Kepa is always giving tactical instructions, maybe that's part of the problem haha but on a serious note, i really like Kepa, he is a great character and i think he actually is very passionate in his own way. Don't know if he is a real leader but he certainly is a good character and realistically one of our only senior players left. Only Silva is older than him (assuming Azpi is leaving) also because Pochettino made Lloris his captain i thought he might make Kepa captain too, certainly as he has stated he wants him to stay, and making him captain is a bit of a sign of his trust in him Edited June 22, 20233 yr by azpi28
June 28, 20233 yr Two things to note here. Firstly hopefully he's "happy" until we find the right solution (what I'd give for Kobel or Maignan) as opposed to considering Kepa a long term answer. However I will find it very alarming if in the worst case of above we're not trying to buy a backup/competition, Bettinelli was objectively one of the worst keepers in the second tier when he was last playing regularly.

Bettinelli is surely still the 3rd keeper with perhaps Slonina as #2 ? Bergstrom is supposed to be decent as well.

I'd add Jamie Cumming to the mix aswell, he's had a pretty impressive couple of years at MK Dons and can't see why he can't be our Kelleher.
June 29, 20233 yr I like Kepa, but I feel its extremely nieve to not have a decent number 2 that could push to be number 1,we know flappy wrists will screw up and let's not mention his long shot capabilities.

June 29, 20233 yr Pochettino made Lloris look half decent a few years ago. Let’s hope he can work the same miracle with Kepa
June 29, 20233 yr Meh I think Pochettino can improve kepa and we can save 30m for a 2nd keeper and just use one of the others to develop Slonina/bergstrom/cummings

June 29, 20233 yr I actually think the whole department is poor from top to bottom. I am hoping that Slonina turns out to be part of the future and an improvement on what we have and i hope that Pochettino's team is an improvement behind the scenes. I think the importance of an elite goalkeeper is often under-estimated. Would Man City have been treble winners if they had stuck with Claudio Bravo. If Pochettino is happy to work with Kepa now, i bet he is still going to be walking a tightrope and if he is not maintaining the required standard i could then see us going in for a keeper in January. In fact part of me thinks all of this is bluster and i think we will sign another senior keeper in this window anyway.
June 29, 20233 yr Romano reported last week that Pochettino does not automatically see Kepa as his #1. There is no way he's watched Kepa and concluded "that's my keeper". We will likely get someone just as good as Kepa to replace Mendy.

Think is a case of we have a budget and Pochettino may well see it best being used on two midfielders and a Striker, than a very expensive keeper. Given Martinez at Inter is said to be a Pochettino target we should insist to Inter to swap him and Lukaku or Lukaku is not allowed to return to Inter.

Like it or lump it, Kepa despite being a good shot stopper, is useless at many of the basics...as for shots from outside the area...

Kobel? Did I miss something? I was under the impression most Dortmund fans thought he is pretty questionable.
June 30, 20233 yr I've liked that Livakovic (Dinamo Zagreb & Croatia) goalkeeper from our matches against them and his WC run. Not sure if he fits the bill and can't be bothered watching those Youtube "analysis" that mean squat, but basing on those few games he could be an option to challenge Kepa and wouldn't cost a ton. Apparently Fiorentina offered just around 6m for him.

Wrists like jelly is fine providing you can clip a 30 yard ball to an unmarked full back whilst under no pressure whatsoever (apparently that makes you a ball playing keeper)
July 13, 20233 yr PSG apparently looking at Kepa to replace donnaruma https://psgtalk.com/2023/07/psg-manager-luis-enrique-makes-surprising-move-for-chelsea-goalkeeper-report/amp/
