August 14, 20232 yr I am glad Kepa has gone. I'm a little old fashioned. I like defenders who can actually defend properly and keepers who can actually catch corners and crosses to help the defenders out. If the keeper can also save most long-range shots without spilling them and actually looks an imposing figure in goal for penalties that is also another tick in the box.

In fact Sanchez seems to struggle in the same areas Mendy struggled in. Passing the ball, decision making when leaving his line resulting in penalties or easy goals, random lapses in concentration. But the argument is that the style Brighton play has led to those errors. I don't think it's worth getting stressed about, they are both average keepers for me, they just figured Sanchez would be a better bet than keeping Mendy.

August 15, 20232 yr Glad he’s gone and hopefully for good, but surely we need a better keeper at the club pronto? Or do we just hope for the best and make do for this season and look for a quality keeper next summer? A top quality keeper could quite easily be the difference between 4th and 5th this season.

I have always really liked Carlo Cudicini's profile as a keeper. In his era playing from the back wasn't a thing so we don't need to discuss about that. He is tall, he was an excellent shot stopper, always giving out orders for defenders and a showman on top of that. Cech is undisputed but he lacked a bit of that showmanship Cudicini had. Now you naturally have to have a vision of Pirlo and passing range of Cesc to be a decent keeper. If you can save some shots it is enough. Ederson is a prime example of that.

Carlo was 186cm, which is pretty short for a modern goal keeper !!!

September 6, 20232 yr Kepa dogging us only good news imo. His comments will definitely have been heard the Chelsea board by now. Can get rid of his useless arse next summer. Edited September 6, 20232 yr by Sconnie Blue
September 7, 20232 yr “In the end, Real Madrid is Real Madrid. When Real Madrid calls you, you don’t have to think twice. I’ve faced Real Madrid three times with Chelsea. When I arrived at Bernabeu I always turned left, to the visiting dressing room, but I wanted to turn right, to the local dressing room!” “It is true that at Chelsea, Pochettino wanted me to stay and he told me that I was going to play, that he trusted me, but I thought that a change would be good for me. I wanted a change.” Glad Chelsea fans finally get to see what a person this guy is. The fans jumping up and down yelling for him to be our #1 were just disillusioned by 1 or 2 decent reflex saves last season but forget that he is very poor everywhere else and has been since he's been here. I know we've had good Spanish players, but please no more. There's just something about them and that country. If they didn't have the sun and beaches, they'd be a 3rd world country. Don't let the door hit you on the way out.

Look at Rubiales and Getafe as a whole to have a general idea of what type of people they are. On the outside they seem great, just dig a little bit deeper into them and see for yourself 👍

September 7, 20232 yr Heartening to know that Real Madrid will win f**k-all with short arms in goal for them. Never warmed to him - good riddance.
September 7, 20232 yr My take is he was a professional when here. Always handled himself well. Won't hold it against him for saying that when a part of Real team. Like he said, it is Real. Might have been a bit naive to say it as still officially a Chelsea player but if there is a possibility his loan becomes permanent by him saying something about loving and wanting to be Real Madrid player then I understand. The other side of the coin is what he's saying about not thinking the Boehly project is one he wants to be involved with. We all say they have done well to revamp the squad and get rid of players but it almost seems it was made possible and easy because a lot of players didn't fancy the project and wanted to leave as well, in some cases taking lower wages to go away.

Disobeying his coaches instructions and refusing to come off the pitch in the 2019 league cup final was perhaps a tad unprofessional!! Madrid are welcome to him although not sure what happens to him as & when Courtois is fit again?

Observing from a distance how he reacted to losing his spot to Mendy and in the following years makes me tend to believe the reasons or excuses Sarri, his captain and the player himself gave at the time.
