A new striker in January.

Featured Replies

For me Bats finished yet can't link up and can't read the game.

If there are two strikers and the ball drops for him he will likley put it away.

Just perhaps his football brain is improving in Germany yet I would like some evidence before just jumping on a passing ship otherwise it would be like the film dumber and dumber.

I can't see us buying anyone in January because I don't think there's going to be anyone worth while buying available.

The Icardi rumour just came out of nowhere in the last week but there's no way Inter would allow him to leave mid season and I'm not sure I could see us paying his £98m release clause either.

Anyone think Wayne Rooney could do a job?

He looked completely off the pace in his last couple of seasons in the Premier League.

He's doing well in America at the moment but I couldn't see him replicating that form in the Premier League anymore.

Yeah I know mate, its just bewildering to me how such an imortant position was overlooked by the Club. How they thought our strikers gonna deliver in such a ridiculous League is way out there for me. I wish we could Icardi but yeah fat chance.......we'll have to suffer till summer, and suffer we will judging by the stuff shown so far. Bats cant possible any worse can he...........

It is frustrating to say the least. If you think back to January, and the transfer merry go round with giroud Batshuayi aubameyang, why didn't we just swap Batshuayi for aubameyang? Giroud came in for £18m for a 31 year old which was very big for player his age, and although he's done a decent job, he's only scored 5 goals.

Arsenal had lacazette who cost a similar price as morata, but because he didn't hit the ground running, they went back into the market. We should've done the same, even if it meant bringing in a higuian or a cavani, we need a striker that scores goals.

I don't see us getting the top line striker we need in January, so I think we should either stick with what we have, or recall Batshuayi. Then I would sell all 3 of them in the summer, and go all out for icardi, and a decent back up that can play across the front 3, maybe someone like fekir.

Exactly.........why didnt we get Auba when we sent Bats there? Its a big testemant that even arsenal now is getting their sh*t together and they get their targets....willing to spend. They just hired some new folks higher up and its evident they know how and when to grab those deals. We are the opposite......either too slow or too late. You say summer we will go for the kill but I wont put Money on it......a couple of other elite Clubs have strikers going stale or old, we wont be the only Club after Icardi.......as always its gonna be a hassle.

I read this morning that Real Madrid could be looking at bringing Ibrahimovc from the MLS. He could be q good option for the rest of the season if he were interested

Such a frustrating situation. Surely the scouts must be able to Identify a suitable alternative signing.

We should have just gone all out for Augero all them years ago rather than buying stop gaps all the time.

If I were looking at the MLS, I’d go for this guy.

https://www.futhead.com/19/players/2634/josef-martinez/

lethal finisher, wins an inordinate amount of aerial balls despite his height. Excellent pace.  Pours goals in for fun, Tata Martino is leaving Atlanta.

i promise you he would have outscored Giroud and Morata in the league by now.

Not really saying he’s an option, but if you’re looking at MLS for a striker, it begins and ends with Josef Martinez.

When our supporters would rather have an MLS striker then you know we have utterly handicaped our team. f**king desperate stuff and its all on the Club.

Well, I'm not looking at MLS for a striker, I'm just mentioning that if Zlatan Ibrahimovic is available in the January window, maybe we should try to get him for the rest of this season. He is a top, strong striker with that killer instinct that we need. And has played in the EPL so would not required that much time to adapt.

By the way, the comments from the link you've provided are not very encouraging

Icardi is never leaving in January though, especially with Inter looking likely to progress to the knockout stages of the CL

And just how many matches would you give Icardi without a goal before pronouncing the next top striker we have to buy?

Honestly, it's like a playground in here sometimes, my new shiny toy is boring me now, I want a new shiny toy, and I'm going to scream and scream until I make myself sick unless I get one.

Its pathetic that the club only went into the 2018 season with 2 senior CFs, we should have kept Tammy or Michy for options.

At this rate I'd bin Morata, hes had his go and hes been w**k.

I'd give Michy a go but in 12 months time we'll be looking to replace him too.

So Moses has some experience playing up front... we could kill two birds with one stone if he actually turns out to be good.

Failing that, we should find some old codger who can do a job for half a season like we did in 2013.

Who's the 2018 equivalent of Samuel Eto'o? Berbatov? Pizarro? van Persie? Is David Villa still around?

Alternatively, we could just scour the Turkish league for over-30 centre forwards with some Premier League/international experience (Rodallega, Yilmaz, Robinho are all apparently still chugging along).

I wouldn't mind seeing Moses having a go up front, he always puts a shift in and has a turn of pace and likes to shoot.

Don't think Sarri will try this though.

Par for the course on those threads. The kid smashed the MLS goal scoring record with about 8 games left to play.

Like I was saying, he’s a lethal finisher. A poacher with speed and aerial finishing.

But I'm off topic a bit. He’s not coming to Chelsea, but I’d take him over Ibra and David Villa from the MLS.

His teammate Miguel Almiron is supposed to be headed to Arsenal in January. Incredibly fast, good skill moves, great work rate, final ball is lacking.

I can't think of a striker out there who'd guarantee us 20+ premier league goals in a season. Icardi? maybe, but I wouldn't pay £100m for him and there's no chance that he'd come in Jan. I don't think he's realistic. Kane? As if. Aguero? No chance. Mbappe? Nope. Neymar? haha. Ronaldo/Messi/Suarez/Dybala - these are the only strikers that I'd be confident in getting us 20+ premier league goals in a season, but we don't have a chance of getting any of them. It's slim pickings out there in the striker department, so we need to try and get behind the players that we already have on our books (Morata/Giroud/Bats). That being said, I wouldn't mind giving false 9 another chance with our new formation/style. Maybe even sticking Pedro up top.

Know where you are coming from though I do recall one 30 year old 'nobody' that did very well a few years back at Inter under JM,

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Diego_Milito

This suggests there may be players you just need to find them or use a stand-in from the squad.

I'd take a player like Milito in a heartbeat! That season Inter won the Champions League Milito scored 30 in 52 apps. That was his first season at Inter who signed him from Genoa after having a fantastic season there. Some have linked us to Piatek who is currently playing a Genoa - maybe it's a sign haha.

Did you just use a FIFA website to show off a player?

While we’re talking about MLS, I like the look of Acosta.

We already have Pedro and Fabregas in our squad who have experience playing as a 9 for Barca/Spain. Might be worthwhile giving them a go till the summer, or until we can shift two front men who between them have 2 goals in 3 months.

Agree on Pedro though not Fabregas as a stand-in no.9 in the EPL.
