As far as I understand it, it could very well be the end of Roman Abramovich as owner of Chelsea.

Seems to be confusion whether he's sanctioned already or not but it seems to be a matter of time if Putin does not withdraw in Ukraine which he simply won't.

Sanctions are that all UK assets will be frozen and will be barred from any dealings with UK individuals or entities.

Well we are an asset of Roman's so of they are frozen then the players and staff at the club won't be paid and we therefore won't be able to complete our fixtures now would we? As the players are hardly going to play for free and it costs to operate the stadium and get match days going.

No Roman, no more Chelsea games till the situation is sorted.

Don't think Johnson has thought this through.

It may be that RA cannot sell CFC or realise any profits without them being seized.

Seems unlikely that they would freeze the club as potentially 50k to 100k fans then might start to look at some of the other owners like Newcastle or Leicester and make noise.

You know those Saudis are sensitive to public pressure and us being closer to Westminster might cause embarassment.

To go after owners that have nothing to do with the global political game looks pretty much like racism and ethnic discrimination, regardless of where they are from. Imagine being from the middle east and having a business but back in your country there is some bs happening and you while even being half the world away are still going to be affected by it just because of your background, that’s just racism...

This is just posturing, there is no way the government would think freezing Roman's asset directly links to stifling Russia's invasion plans

Ordure! Ordure!

Channeling my inner Private Eye there

And while I’m at it may I take the opportunity to state categorically that Boris Johnson is possibly the most odious, most duplicitous excuse for a politician to ever hold the office of Prime Minister.

And those are his finer points.

Johnson stated he thought RA was already subject to Sanctions yet that was just denial of a new Visa in 2018.

This is why it looks like he has not thought this through.

What would Russia stand to lose from sanctions imposed on Abramovich? It would be England that would suffer the most from a sanction like this, which is the opposite of what you want to achieve with sanctions. We are London's number 1 team in the most popular sport in the world. Forget being a football fan for a moment, from the governments point of view, we are a huge asset to the country.

I think Roman might be ok as he keeps just about enough distance from Putin to not fall foul but also to not be associated. Sanctions likely to target Putin’s inner circle, at least initially. If push came to shove, though, I  think there’s a chance Roman would seek to distance himself from the regime. Outside the inner circle, they’ve all had it with Putin.

Margaret Hodge MP raised the question of Abramovich and also Usmonov re sanctions, obviously this was not anticipated by Johnson.

I don't think this will go any further as football makes too much money and though Russia may be flavour of the month it will give political opponents ammo to go after others which may damage the English game.

Current sanctions are aimed at Putin's inner circle.

His Citizenship is Israeli', Portuguese, and Russian, maybe he could give up the Russian problem solved ?

`I know i am simplifying, but in reality too much skin in the game (no Pun) for a major English and European club to suddenly stop operating. I think they will find a rule or loop hole I am sure. Football is not the only thing funded by Russian wealth

Chelsea could be seized by the gov and resold to the highest bidder, wonder if the next owner will not have to pay back £1bn to Roman?

Can't he transfer to his son?

It's funny because many opposition fans seem to be laughing that it's the 'end of Chelsea', but in reality we're worth a hell of a lot of money in both assets and as an established Premier League club. If we were taken over by the government and sold to the highest bidder, it would only be to another extremely rich owner and life would continue as before.

No way can I see Chelsea being completely frozen and destroyed, when there is a lot of value in selling us should the government take control of our club.

Roman is aligned with Russia and Israel, America and Israel are allies, America and Russia are enemies. Something will have to give.
