If there's a possibility that Roman cannot be sanctioned at all and currently the Home Office have no proof...why is Roman selling the club?

But maybe he fears that Putin will reveal everything when the war is over, which is enough to sanction.

He fully grasps the damage to the club's reputation from being linked to Russia, even if he or the club were not sanctioned. He knows he has no alternative.

I'm so annoyed with this. Imagine you worked so hard to become a worldwide superstar while born in Russia. You did nothing wrong in the process (not saying Roman did nothing though...but innocent 'til proven guilty). Putin declares war, and now your reputation, everything you worked for, is in the mud because of one person.

Roman is selling the club solely because he doesnt want any harm to its functions. Him being a Russian oligarch in itself could be enough to stop all Chelsea FC operations. 

His hand is forced.

Romans wealth and influence is definitly a lot more nuanced than this. I think we can admit that despite our appreciation for all he's done for this club.

Putin is where he is because of the oligarchy for example and Roman definitly had a part to play in all that.

It's got nothing to do with his nationality, zero, if it was about him being Russian why is their no calls for Marina to leave ?

The one word I hate is Oligarch, as if it is con specific to Russians, do look up the meaning, Britains Ruling class is Oligarchy, maybe he is just fortunate to make obscene money, till he’s concretely linked to something as barbaric as say Saudi Arabian money, and he recently successfully sued a massive bookseller and author, for libel, Parliamentary privilege is allowing these gobsh*te politicians to spout off, or he’d probably sue them…….,,

From my reading on it, and it's tough because everyone is so afraid of being sued by Roman...

Roman was key to the beginnings of the Putin council. He interviewed all cabinet members. He helped create and fund the party that cemented Putins power. He was as close as advisor as one could get. That's never been proven, but I expect many believe that to be the case in the positions of power. Putin is savvy, one theory, as sick as it is, is that Roman was persuaded to buy Chelsea by Putin in order to cement Russian influence abroad. I don't buy it, but it's not definitely false. 

Since then, he hasn't distanced in any meaningful way. He hasn't denounced the invasion (saying it's a tragedy is not denouncing). He hasn't publicly reprimanded Putin. We don't know what role he might be playing in negotiations, or whether this Ukrainian charity piece is just PR (it probably is)

He's either on Putins side or he's not. And right now, he's decided he can't be on the outside. Maybe that's because he fears for his life and wealth more if he left Putin than if he stayed. Or maybe it's because he is behind him and everything else is a sham 

Either way, he can't own Chelsea if that's his decision. We are at war, and he needs to pick his side. It's a shame. He was a great owner. The greatest. I hope one day we find out he was a minor part in Putins regime and not a major one. 

 

 

It's mad to think that many younger people these days would have only known Roman and our success. I was 14 when he took over, so even I myself have mostly seen trophies and success under Roman. But those who are a few years younger than I am now would have only ever known him, since they were young supporters.

Because she isn't popular. If she was popular, as in we see her name once a while on news - she'll be called to leave. But look at the Russians in every sport. They are all being told to F off, even though they have next to no involvement with the war.

I must have looked at this pic many times and missed our chancellor being in close attendance. Just shows how links have been formed with the Russian elite and our Conservative Government. Wonder if he paid for his ticket or declared it?

Early days, but this makes me cautiously optimistic if Boehly and co buy the club.

Whoever becomes the new owner he/she will have huge shoes to fill.
