Does anybody here know how to get systemic moves done to influence such a matter? Or how or where you contact the right person for it? If somebody here is established in this culture and could initiate something that would be great. A normal everyday person can't really do anything about any of this which is similar to how no casual fan could influence the sale of Chelsea to Roman back in 2003 to begin with. He's selling the club to whoever he finds fitting the most, over the years he probably learned how other owners do their business so given that he loves the club he probably won't choose a really bad owner, I think there might be a strong will to leave the club in good hands just like Bates did prior to Roman so the fans should be optimistic and give a chance to whoever becomes the new owner. If the UK government didn't put some extra requirements for a simple visa renewal we would have had a brand new 60k capacity stadium getting ready by now, sadly that project didn't happen and it could be the mission for the new owner. Otherwise I think it's important to remember that while this exaggerated reaction due to the war in Ukraine is the main cause of all this that is happening, that Roman had nothing to do with it.
March 5, 20224 yr It feels like the end of everything at the moment. Roman's leaving us after almost 20 years, and Shane Warne has followed in his wake. Two individuals associated with Chelsea FC. In some ways, it is fitting that Roman leaves us now, after winning everything there is to win, but I'm still gutted because he ultimately loved the club and always acted with our best interests in mind, even if we didn't always agree with him. He turned us from a competitive but not top-class club into a self-sustaining institution with a wonderful academy. I'm relatively sanguine about our prospects going forward. Our profile is such that we won't be attracting, or accepting, bids from shysters or clueless nitwits like Blackburn did, and even if our academy suddenly becomes neglected, the talent that has been churning through for some years is such that it will take quite a while for it to be felt on the pitch. Our reputation is such that we will be attracting talented players as well, because a generation of fans would know of no other Chelsea than the trophy-winning machine that Roman himself created. Hell, his love for the club is such that it wouldn't surprise me if he came back and bought it years later, if we somehow managed to land ourselves in trouble, after all this furore has passed.
March 5, 20224 yr Roman Abramovich will demand guarantees from prospective #Chelsea owners that they have the resources to maintain the club’s place among the European elite before agreeing to sell. Roman Abramovich is understood to regard the buyer’s plans for the future of #Chelsea as equally significant as the price in determining whether to sanction a sale. [via @MailSport] Thank you Roman. If true, he’s trying to protect us
March 5, 20224 yr I hope the next owner goes to games, develops the stadium and the surrounding areas, develops the academy and brings with him only good strategies to drive us forward. I hope Roman doesn't ever sell the club to greedy parasitic scums like the American billionaires eg. Kroenke or Glazers

Roman got it working fantastically and we’ve got the best academy in the PL, giving very promising young players for Chelsea and the England team. And it also gave some dividends from sales. I don’t see any new owner giving it the importance it has. Now a private equity group would probably recognise that and keep it going for both loans and bringing through less expensive home grown talent.

March 6, 20224 yr It’s hard to work out where Abramovitch fits in to the Russian hierarchy. one source says he recommended Putin and vetted his cabinet. I hope that isn’t correct.

I hope that isn’t correct. The oligarchs did. They were afraid that after Yeltsin the new president wouldn’t be as understanding. They basically built Putin up from nothing. If not for the Oligarchs Putin would have never been able to come to power. The richest of them all made the mistake to recommend on national television to go for the European model and get rid of all the corruption. He got sentenced to 14 years in prison and got his company taken away and it was divided between putins loyal friends. So that’s what happens if you oppose Putin. He is now an exile This is him today Abramovich isn’t a saint, he is a Machiavellian type, but still he is a chelsea legend, and always will be. To deny him that would be hypocritical. he who lives in glass houses shouldn’t throw stones etc. A lot of riches everywhere in the world have come at a price. The hypocrisy is that our rivals try to bring his politics and his history to tarnish our club while United and Arsenal fans would have sold their own mother to have Abramovich as an owner instead of that American. I really hope he is against the war, it’s one thing to get rich through corruption, taking advantage of a corrupt system, but to support the war would be insane Edited March 6, 20224 yr by azpi28

Because in that case I would suggest you educate yourself on whats actually happening to the people of Ukraine right now and reconsider. Go watch some videos from Irpin or Kharkiv or Kiev or wherever in Ukraine and you'd see the reality of what's happening there right now. Because if the sanctions against for example oligarchs (and therefore against Roman Abramovich) adds even the slightest bit of extra pressure on Putin then that will be worth it to try and stop this war. Because there are children, women and men & women in the Ukrainian army that's dying as we speak from the actions of an evil individual. That individual needs to face the Saddam Hussein treatment and every one of his enablers and financers also needs the harshest penalties possible.

If we get a greedy owner who only cares about the bottom line they'll absolutely want to keep the academy going as a way to save themselves splashing out on regular big transfers. Which I guess from our perspective will be great and depressing both at the same time.

To the people that are thinking that there is some sort of Chelsea agenda in the media because Roman has been a good owner. Get a grip, way bigger things at play here than a football club. If he had any sort involvement in Putins regime he should be heavily sanctioned. To the "fans" who sing his name during a round of applause aimed at showing support for Ukraine. Read the room and use your brain if you have one, it's embarrassing and im glad Tuchel called them out on it. Edited March 6, 20224 yr by Sheva

But Roman had nothing to do with the current events and at least us fans should be able to separate the club from geo-politics and current world events. Roman has been investing over the years not just in football but he's all for fighting against racism, anti-semitism and there had been other good campaigns that the club has done under Roman I just don't remember the causes, my point is Roman did try to have a positive influence in the world. I'm afraid that the part there what I put on bold isn't going to work at all, Putin doesn't care how much Roman is sanctioned or treated at all, Putin doesn't care if Roman's assets are seized or if Chelsea is shut down. Putin doesn't care if Russian cats are banned either. Punishing Roman for something that he has no control over isn't going to produce anything, Roman will never be in a position to pressure Putin. We don't live in a world where Roman can make that phone call and say "stop it mate, I own Chelsea and my relations with him or her are getting ruined so calm down a bit will ya?". You're vastly overestimating Roman's role and influence in the politics of Russia. It doesn't look like Roman being pressured and deciding to sell has any impact on the war.
March 6, 20224 yr Slightly off topic - Why are they clapping for Ukraine before the United v City game? Surely a minutes silence is more appropriate rather than clapping. Clapping is celebrating, silence is more somber.

Your post is mostly speculation and guess work. Unless you are in the Russian system then you are not in the position to make such definitive statements as if they are facts. None of us know anything, so better we stop guessing. My work has given me some exposure to sanctions. In the UK the burden of proof and threshold is pretty high. That is a legal test, it based on guess work or speculation. Roman is currently "innocent" in that he has not been sanctioned. If the situation changes and he gets sanctioned then it will be with good reason. If Roman had zero to worry about, then there is no need to take a preemptive measure to protect his assets such as selling chelsea, and the move may be premature. If he does have something to worry about, then it is for the best he sells now. The third option is that he genuinely doesn't have anything to worry about in terms of sanctions, but he is simply selling to protect the reputation of the club.

But he's a small part in a much bigger picture here. Sanctions against oligarchs does have an impact on Putin as he's the biggest one of them all. It does also have an impact on Russia as a whole. Wheter it's enough for Putin to stop the war no one knows but it's part of a campaign from the west to try and do everything we can to stop this war. And that's why Roman have also been affected by this.
