July 4, 20224 yr I think two important people for Roman were Marina and Cech. With them sidelined it stops Roman getting the inside knowledge on what’s going on under the new owners.
July 4, 20224 yr I dare to say we will sell 2-3 players before we see any signing, unlike Roman the new owner is paying lots more attention to the finance. Sell before buy, keep the finance in check before investment.

Sources have told The Athleticthat he is using data from an analytics company he has worked with since his Dortmund days to inform his recommendations, and that Raphinha in particular was targeted after his creative metrics scored particularly well against other attackers aged 25 and younger. Data is also at the heart of Boehly and Clearlake’s long-term thinking. Chelsea have already posted a job advert for a lead data scientist, and The Athleticreported last month that the new owners are hoping to bring in six to eight new people with analytics pedigree.” What about me, i know a decent player, without data and analytics, and would be far far cheaper🤣
July 5, 20224 yr I appreciate that the approach has changed and the power has shifted to Tuchel…but I don’t understand why Marina couldn’t have stayed on until September and helped us get these signings that we desperately need. She may have disagreed with the costs etc but Bohley could have said not to worry about it and it’s not her problem. It’s starting to feel more and more like Bohley doesn’t quite know what he’s doing in the market.

I'd much rather see us sign 0 players then continue with the hopeless recruitment strategy we've seen the last five years. I'm also of the opinion that Boehly and Granovskaia probably had a falling out so staying wasn't really an option anyways. Buck and Cech both got nice personal statements from the club while Marina's departure was announced by a footnote in a bigger article about our new board and directors.

Or he could have looked at some of our recent deals ( lukaku etc. etc. ) and thought WTF i can do better than that FFS

My concern is that he has no experience negotiating with agents and clubs. He's American and the fact that he a) owns a hedge fund and b) knows little if anything about football will not be lost on his European counterparts during negotiations. A board full of hedge fund managers with zero even tangential experience in the football industry means that Boehly's resources are limited. Peter Kenyon was a snake, a liar and an out-and-out twat, but Abramovich had the sense to employ someone negotiating transfers who was at least vaguely football-related. Boehly's not got the time to do that, but may well do more damage than good in this interim period. To be absolutely fair to Boehly, he appears to have agreed fees with clubs very quickly. Given our previous history of dragging out transfer fees until we were screwed by both club and player's agent on signing-on fees, maybe there is a needed change afoot. July 5, 20224 yr Sounds like Boehly is playing by the rules in the transfer market, and get punished for it, with the so called elite foreign clubs tapping up players. It's impossible for him to become a transfer\negotiation guru in a matter of weeks. In the short term, it's an issue whether we we love or hate Marina.
July 5, 20224 yr Here we go Tod, my to do list Kante for Ronaldo- Straight swap RLC- Palmieri- Double P/Ex Milinkovic-Savic Pulisic- offset payment against De Ligt Ziyech or Werner- Abraham, lol Sterling buy him Alessio Romagnoli- Buy or player exchange Ake and Zinchenko - Buy
July 6, 20224 yr I don't recall anyone having a problem with Granovskaia when she started playing the lead role in our transfer and contract negotiations despite having no previous football experience, nor any meaningful executive positions on her CV, having been one of Roman's PA's. I'm quite sure Boehly, with a strong track record of achievement and business like he has, knows what he is doing, and if he needs footballing advice I'm sure he has multiple resources available to him.

July 6, 20224 yr Boehly is sensible and it's already been made clear we are looking for a sporting director. Which is excactly what we've been missing since Emenalo left. Boehly announced himself as interim sporting director for now but we are looking to bring in Edwards from Liverpool. This window was always going to be difficult because there was zero time for Boehly to really prepare for it.

July 6, 20224 yr How many players have we signed? All joking aside it is not looking very promising with the signings to be fair. It might end up okay but we all know the best catches happen early.

With the suggested targets, I think the best outcome would be that we sign nobody and sell nobody, until we have a sporting director like Edwards that can coordinate team needs with Tuchel and make multilateral decisions with the scouts, boards etc. I know this Youth+Stars strategy works brilliantly for Boehly in baseball, but baseball is sort of an individual team sports. If Oldnaldo doesn´t press properly, like Fatkaku, the whole system falls apart. Your defense is only as strong as your weakest link and the striker is like the press maestro. That´s why the team always looked the best/most cohesive with Havertz or Werner leading the lines. Edited July 6, 20224 yr by ElTerrible
July 6, 20224 yr It is not looking promising relative to preseason training or departure for US training camp, but we have to play the long game. I'm sure the changes we are aware of are the tip of the ice berg as Chelsea goes through a massive restructuring. The apparent slow sale (although others say it was completed very quickly) compounds the challenge of the summer. I'm sure they'll bring some players in, and am sure it is massively busy behind the scenes. Beside Buck, Marina, Cech and club culture stories, its been almost too quiet to appease the fans. Just need to play the long game - maybe many of the targets won't pan out this summer. I do think it is imperative we sign two defenders - can't complete in top 6 with the back line we have right now.
