Transfer fees are spread over the length of a contract. So that + wages over the squad mean now much were spending. 

Ziyech goes on loan, the fee covers some or more of the transfer fee and all or most wages. So Ziyech goes from being a cost of 20m to potentially zero or a gain. Some of our loanees I imagine we make money on.

Perhaps the lack of signings will force TT to take a look at the youth options and give them a chance. Vale is one player that could step up. He just led England to the Euro U19 title.

It’s going take a while to get rid of the dead wood and run the club properly. We’ve been so wasteful and got a real mismatch of players.

I don't buy this, I don't see why we wouldn't have as much pulling power as all but City and Liverpool right now.

The problem is that after Marina and Cech were let go, we are basically starting from scratch, putting us behind everybody else. I still think we will get Sterling, De Ligt is another I think we are in with a good shout of signing. The Neymar rumour isn't dying down either.

It's what, one week since we got rid of the last and useless regime?

In that time we've completed a deal with Leeds for Raphinha (who may decide to join Barca but still) and we are clearly in active negotiations for De Ligt, Ake and Sterling already. Don't think Boehly is doing too bad at all right now.

It's not difficult to agree deals with clubs if you throw ever increasing amounts of money at them.

Telling Leeds we'll pay them 60m while not making sure the player actually wants the move is very amateurish

Boehly did well getting Marina out ASAP as she was dreadful but I did hope he'd have a replacement already considered rather than trying to lone wolf our transfer business this summer.

I think the problem is, pre season is already under way and we have absolutely ZERO movements with the squad. People showing up for pre season who shouldn’t be anywhere near the team next year. It’s incredibly frustrating. It really does show how f**king terrible our previous board were in the market as even with sanctions, they could have got deals in place for the second ownership changed. 

I wouldn't be so worried about pre-season starting today as it's only the players who haven't played any international games who came back. Even if we did sign De Ligt or Sterling, they wouldn't be available right now anyway. Guess next week would be our internal deadline to finalize signings which would give them a month to prepare for our first league game.  

However I do agree that now is the time to properly evaluate those remaining players and do our utmost to clear the squad of fillers. Barkley, Emerson, Bats etc have to be sold this window, enough of those useless loans.

To be honest if Barkley is happy to just merely exist in the squad in an Origi esque way I wouldn't be against him doing so.

He always seems to have one month a season where he plays quite well and if that comes at a time Mount and/or Gallagher are injured or after the world cup (when Mount may need a bit of rest after a long tournament) then he could come in handy.

All three of those players contracts end in 2023, so at least they won’t be hanging around for long, can imagine would-be suitors would rather wait for them to be free agents; as even if we sell on the cheap, a player on £0 wage and no club is more likely to accept lesser wages.

They were not permitted to, as per the terms of the British Government's licence. No transfers, no contract renewals, no future planning was permitted so that Abramovich could not continue to inflate the value of the club. Skirting around UEFA/FIFA transfer bans is one thing but taking on a sovereign government who can impose criminal penalties is folly.

In fact, the original terms of the licence even restricted game-day functions and it wasn't until Chelsea negotiated a better deal a few days later that matchdays and wages were guaranteed.

I know it's popular to rag on the old board these days but I think perspective is important as well.
