July 31, 20223 yr Not gonna lie, i have being very disappointed with their transfer activity thus far. Yes, we added two experienced players but to me from the outside everything seems so slow, forced and not planned properly. Unless, the plan is to give Broja, Collwill, Ampadu, gallagher serious game time we are still in need of at least 3 players.
August 1, 20223 yr Been staying away but frankly I am struggling to understand the criticisms of our board during the window. Boehly assumed control in June following a whirlwind takeover and sanctions and the club has essentially been playing catch-up to other clubs who had months to prepare. Boehly has successfully closed deals for Koulibaly and Sterling, both of whom immediately upgrade our side. Moreover, he moved quickly to bid for Raphinha, De ligt, Kounde (he was last choice for Tuchel but we still bid before Barca). He met their asking price and proposed big wages for all of them. He cannot help it if they want to join other clubs. He successfully got rid of Lukaku in a timely manner and ensured he didn't stink up the pre-season. Unlike Marina and Roman, he is clearly backing the coach and is aligned with his way of thinking. Because at the end of the day, a coach needs his players to play his vision. Our current squad is a mess of players by different managers and previous board. I am finding it quite refreshing. The sanctions/takeover has dealt Chelsea a bad hand. Boehly has no contacts in Europe but is making an effort to meet a lot of them and develop relationships. Yeah, he has been naive on some things but that is him learning on the job. Considering everything, he has done a great job.
August 1, 20223 yr Matt Law’s comment on Todd: ”There has been some naivety and chaos about Chelsea's summer but you can't fault the ambition of the owners. They have chased big targets and £50m on Cucurella, a player City wanted, again points to big ambitions and backing Tuchel #cfc” I agree with that. They seem to know what they are doing.

In addition to this i'd also like to add that Boehly have stayed true to his word about focusing and investing in youth and the academy. Because in just a short time we've signed several of the brightest talents in the country like among others Tyler Dibling from Southampton, Slonina who Real Madrid were after as well, Omari Hutchinson from Arsenal and last but not least Carney from Aston Villa who everyone wanted. Also after highly rated Casadei from Inter as part of our long-term midfield succession plan so for the first time in forever there actually seem to be a long-term plan in play here which is terrific. As others have said, there's been some naivety but I think this summer's transfer business has been good. Sterling and Koulibaly are both good signings and will strengthen us and thank goodness Lukaku was offloaded (albeit on loan). Considering the rushed nature because of circumstances beyond our control with the ownership change and sanctions, I think Boehly has done a good job to get down to business and not mess around. It's going to be interesting to see how far they will back Tuchel and the appointments they make in the football department (i.e. director of football etc.)

Because of the rushed nature and Boehly learning on the job we're seeing a lot more leaks than expected and you have some pundits claiming it's a haphazard, scattergun approach. Neville on The Overlap even said he's playing football manager. But what they're not seeing is that all these players are considered targets of Tuchel. If we went by recent links and assume we finish the window with KK, Sterling, Cucurella, Fofana, and another midfielder or attacker - this is quite is easily the best window we've had in ages. Combined with the recent spate of development signings, it's such an exciting time and it shouldn't be a surprise to see us challenge this season.

We signed Jorgi n kepa because Sarri wanted them. We signed Lukaku because Tuchel wanted him. We signed Bakayoko because Conte wanted him. We don't always get what we want but it is the same with any manager, city n pep wanted Jorgi, Maguire, Sanchez, Kane. He didn't get them.
August 4, 20223 yr He's done something right to upset Neville 😁 The slow start was expected, but we are picking up some momentum. Next summer, he will get all the deals done before players go on holiday.

August 4, 20223 yr Where is the money coming from though? I am curious to know as we've not sold anyone yet. We could have spent almost or over £200m by the end of the window.

Tuchel wanted Haaland as first choice. He wanted a striker. He was given Lukaku instead and he probably didn't want to ruffle feathers in a new club he liked given his past reputation of being difficult. Conjecture on my part but I cannot see Tuchel saying Lukaku fits my pressing system. Conte was given Bakayoko but sold Matic who he wanted to keep. Matic was supposed to be first choice and baka his understudy. However he was thrown in the deep end and we can see how it worked out. Conte wanted Lukaku but we got him Morata instead. He wanted Bonucci and Sandro but was given Rudiger (who improved later but didn't fill an immediate need) and Zappacosta. Then the pointless signings of Drinkwater and Barkley who both stole a living. You cannot always get your 1st choice players as evidenced by this window but all of our backup plans are quality and fit the system. The previous administration just made last minute panic buys and filled us with players who will never play leaving our side so bloated. Edited August 4, 20223 yr by RomansRoubles

This guy is the most overrated pundit in football. Been saying it for years.
August 4, 20223 yr Neville's a flange. I'd take an owner who's out trying to get sh*t done over an owner who spends 95% of his TV time crying that no manager ever deserves the sack, while only ever being five minutes away from, y'know, sacking Salford managers. We're "hearing his name too much" for an owner? Motherf**ker, you spent the the last half of our season turning every game we played into a discussion about Abramovich!

Add in the fact that Conte forced out Costa, I just think the obvious answer is that he pushed the board to sell Matic.
August 5, 20223 yr This is interesting and a smart move by Bohley taken from Matt law article. About time they were incentived for more performance related objectives. “Chelsea’s new owners have already started to try to re-balance the wage bill by allowing players to leave and creating a new structure whereby players' contracts will be heavily incentivised in future. The new signings have accepted deals that offer bonuses for playing in at least 60 per cent of games across a season and qualifying for the Champions League, whereas the previous regime paid out big guaranteed salaries with bonuses only awarded for winning silverware. “
August 5, 20223 yr With the sporting director recruitment, I’m still surprised that they got rid of Cech. Marina and Buck I completely understand but Cech is a club legend, appears to be decent at his job (Lukaku aside). Even if he didn’t have full responsibility, he could have stayed to help.

August 5, 20223 yr Gotta admit, I was frustrated and disappointed when Roman left and I heard there was an American owner involved and likely to buy the club, but so far he's really exceeded my expectations. I thought we would be cutting back on buying players and we'd be in a whole new rebuild process, but he's put the money where his mouth is and backed the manager with signings. Things are young still, but I'm now excited for the future, rather than worried.
