I think Todd overestimated his own ability to close deals and underestimated the complexity of the transfer market negotiations. Getting rid of the old regime was a bold move but it may have backfired.

Also I wonder if it was at all possible to conduct talks with potential sporting director candidates while the ownership saga was still going on  so that we would waste no time once the deal became official. We all know Man City were stocking up players on Pep's recommendations long before he got there, that sort of forward planning would have been a great help in our case too. I'd understand his logic if Boehly said I got my own team in place already working on those deals for a while, I don't need Marina and her vast experience/connections but he seemingly just decided to take over the transfer business out of sheer arrogance. Now we're looking like a bunch of amateurs going after every shiny target and get rejected at every turn.

Yes, it's started to look like the much vaunted Liverpool model that he is looking for seems to have materialsed in the first Liverpool US regime and not the second. Hoping i am wrong of course

Love the knee jerk reactions, season starts is still 2 weeks away and some already written it off as a top 6 finish ( or worse). Just sell all the players, sack the manager, sell the club and do another reboot 🤔

Kneejerk City!

Its barca that's doing it all plus getting whooped by le arse lol

Quite so !

Pre-season can be a bit odd. We saw Liverpool get spanked 4-0 by Man United, and Real Madrid also just lost a friendly 1-0 to Barcelona without so much as having a shot on target, and despite new signings Rudiger and Tchouameni both making their debuts.

It doesnt help when your manager throws the squad under a bus publicly, and openly questions recruitment.

At least he knows how the fans feel.

He does, and also has a history of pointing things out to higher ups in clubs when they don't agree.

We've got to factor in the competition as well. Lamps got top 4 in a COVID affected season with a points total of 66. Since 14-15 season, only other instance of a team securing top 4 with 66 points was City in the year Leicester won the title. If you expect the competition to be that mediocre next season then you're likely to be disappointed.

And i also remember then everyone was banging on about how the North London duo had amazing windows and were gazumping us.

Didn't happen then either.

Well, if you want to bet on them sh*tting the bed and us securing top 4 with the bare minimum points total instead of relying on fixing our problems then its probably our turn to face the law of averages. When a constantly unhappy  manager appointed during the season led Spurs and rock bottom, relegation-battling-after-3-games Arsenal finished only 3 and 5 points behind us then there's cause for concern especially when our squad is lighter than last season and struggling to find the solutions to the same issues.

I know we're not perfect right now, but is there any credence whatsoever in acknowledging that we had one of the most turbulent periods a club has ever faced in possibly the history of the Premier league?

Forgive me if I'm a little forgiving at scraping third with the Lukaku situation, James and Chilwell injuries and out entire club held up for ransom during a war.

The way things stand right now we will have to line up with this defence a lot of the time due to Silva's age and need to be managed.

Chalobah - Koulibaly - Sarr/Colwill

If you think we are in a good position for 4th right now then be my guest but in my opinion we certainly aren't.

So you bring up the mitigating circumstances with Spurs and Arsenal but not us?

Got it!

I appreciate what Roman did for us, obviously, but he left us in a poor situation when it comes to deadwood in the squad. So many average players who are now almost unsellable or solely loan players. Roman and the previous board must have spent near on half a billion on players who have spent very little time in the first team. Mental.

Agree that this is one of the most turbulent times in terms of ownership any club can face. But the number of players (Rudiger, Tchouameni, De Ligt, Kounde) who slipped out of our hands due to inaction and delays indicates that there was a lack of planning and action on part of top level executives which earn 10-20 times more than most of us here. I expect that details of background dealings will emerge slowly but I don't want our club to suffer because of this.

PS, as of today we're still heading into next season without any decent backup to James and Chilwell.

Something I keep on pondering is how deep in Todd is in this business. Is he in conference rooms going on? "why don't we just sign Harry Kane? I always hear about Neymar...why not buy him? Messi is tied but what about Ronaldo..."

Maybe this sort of ignorace would be good coming from outside the business. Insiders might think Ronaldo is never a chance without trying...I don't know. So far I am not impressed..

If you read into Todd's background, He was attending games etc years ago, Made a bid in 2014 (crimea?) and i strongly suspect he was attending games before then as he studied at the london school of economics etc

He isnt just some random, I'm sure the guy knows his shizzle!

If I was leading a consortium to buy a company for 4 billion in an industry I was not expert at and planned to fire the existing management team, in the time it took to negotiate the purchase I would of been prudent and lined up a shadow management team that have the required experience as a contingency, then when the sale went through there would be on staff already at least some of the required expertise to run that company- rather than roll up my sleeves and do the management myself (in our case oversee player transfers).

Bit unprofessional and unprepared isn't it ?

We have Rahman, Miazga, Kenedy, Batshuayi, and others still here because Marina inserted a 1 year extension plan on them for whatever god knows why.

I've actually come to accept the fact that Boehly had to get rid of her immediately. We may as well have to follow the Arsenal/Edu approach and just start terminating contracts and consider them as investments given we are getting rid of absolute mediocrity.

Hey let's get rid of this Tuchel bum, let's get Bill Belichick in. There's a guy that knows how to win. Hell let's get Brady at Central back as well

That was one thing Arsenal did well. It probably cost them top four last year with lack of squad quality in the run in. Now though they have players they wanted to keep with places for additions. I’d expect them to improve this year.

& that would have been the smart way to approach this window. Take a couple of steps back to move forward in the long term. Instead we have cleared out our biggest earner & bought someone else on more money, given a 31yr old a 5yr contract on big wages when you have Jorginho & Kante in the final year of their contract. They both will be demanding 4yr contracts on big wages also because we have given Koulibaly that deal. James & Mount are also due a contract renewal, and know we are paying Sterling £350k+ a week, & were ready to offer Kounde £220k/w, I fully expect their agents to demand a £200k/w min to renew. Whole situation is clusterf**k, and could all have been avoided if we had been smarter in the market.
