Id bet out of that lot Coe and Broughton wont get anywhere. Candy wont, he seems to still be scrambling, bit late now IMO.  Oaktree seems like hogwash

Woody Johnson no chance.  Ricketts/Griffin and Saudi seem to be the only bids, along with of course Boehly/Wyss.  Who the original reporter of the news, Nicola Imfeld, now says do not have a finished consortium, still searching!

Could well be, would not count WJ out he has the cash, but I agree the British bids will lack the money.

Saudi Media would take too long to get approved we would be insolvent by then, of they even got approved.

Still have this feeling that BWG would be a disaster that sees us sink like a stone.

To be honest Roman spoiled us and all other options just seem not up to it. Guess we see the pitch from the potential owners soon enough.

Better than nobody wanting to buy us I guess.

True...just hope they do a really good job, sift through the garbage and find the right owner.

WJ has tabelled his bid, 2bill. He is said to believe his links to London and our government will help him win.

An article by one of the rags claims he has run the Jets"very succesfully". Funny no one on here has claimed that lol.

Saudi media would be approved in no time. UK govt are all behind the Saudi's now claiming how much they are welcome in the UK etc and like reported in the media, how can you let newcastle be took over by Saudi's but not chelsea.  Because if the epl/govt say "no, they cant buy Chelsea because of their links to Saudi govt"  then you have to boot Newcastle's owners out...

EPL dont have a leg to stand on.

I also think its possible that once a buyer is chosen, and all the funds and whatever are proven... the sanctions may get lifted, because the changing of ownership would be in full swing....  and at that point once the fee is quite obviously going to be paid and has been held in an escrow account, and absolutely proven to not be going to Roman, they'll let us operate fully again.  Essentially wha i am saying is that i think a lot of, if not all, sanctions will be removed before our  new owner is officially "in charge"

How long did it take Newcastles owners to be approved though? We don't have that time.

It would take even longer for ours. Newcastles owners had to "prove" they were not directly linked to the Saudi government and/or Saudi state so the kingdom of Saudi Arabia "does not own" Newcastle United.

Saudi Media would have to prove the same AND prove them have no links at all to Newcastles owners, no shared shares etc.

On top of all that it has been leaked both the UK government AND Raine Group are prioritizing bids form company's or people who have previous experience running major sports "franchisees". Saudi Media don't have that.

Unless there is a bid out of nowhere...

It will be between BWG, Ricketts-Griffin and Johnson. Ricketts have some major damage control after Joe's leaked emails.

The uk govt may prioritize one bid or another but they will still have to abide by the law in what they can approve or not. They will surel have to act “reasonably”  within the legal meaning of that word. The legal owner of the club is entitled to sell to the highest or any other bidder it chooses bidder and then the bidder has to be approved by the govt as a fit and proper license holder. Or am I wrong on this?

Who ever wins build a new stadium is going to be essential.

My understanding is Roman/Raine get to chose and the government approves after. Why that MP wanted us seized so the gov could decide as the cannot on their own now.

Slightly related since it involves sports but this story really brings into context why the government is being so hard on Chelsea. People will soon have to publicly denounce Putin if they have a Russian passport or risked suffering consequences like being banned from Wimbledon in the tennis world. Not sure I agree with this stance since the goal posts are now moving from people like Abramovich who have ties to Putin to Russian people in general regardless of whether they have ties to Putin.

It's getting ridiculous is what it is. How does sanctioning every high profile Russian even contribute to helping to stop the war?

If the UN or EU wanted to actually stop the war, they would have frozen China and NK as well because Putin is not getting the funds from the bank accounts of high profile Russians.

Yeah it's a bit strange the govt are getting involved in this. This should be a tennis issue. Does tennis / Wimbledon want someone playing who is representing Russia.

The govt should by no where near this.

If you are dropping 20 m every home game that is say 400 m revenue a year. Makes a big difference over a decade.

That is over a season.

A point I keep making is that whilst those numbers are fact you have to then look at other costs that start to eat quite quickly into that number. Let’s look at us and Arsenal

1) Their Business Rates are around £1.25 million more a year

2) My guess is that they have to pay approximately 1/3 per game more to just put games on . We know ours has been quantified as £1.1 million so let’s say they play 23 games at home at season about £8 million more . Yes they will generate more from selling refreshments etc so let’s be super generous and that cost them net only £3 million more

3) Arsenal still have a £200+ debt. It’s quite confusing , because they re financed, just how much interest they are paying but almost certainly it’s more than 4% so let’s again be generous and say £8 million

4) Then you have the additional costs for things such as electric, water, gas, insurance . If you are being super cautious you would say that’s another £1 million

So before you blink, before you even talk about paying back any of the capital the gap shrinks by £12 million.

But and here’s the big but. if you look at Arsenal they gambled big when they moved from Highbury because they were super successful on the pitch but to pay for the stadium they to a degree sacrificed the performance on the pitch and whilst AW kept them year after year in the CL because they haven’t won the league or indeed the CL their global support, extra TV money has shrunk as a % of ours That alone has probably cost them that £12 million a season and them some.

Of course SB needs redevelopment but I really do wonder if there would be any real value is say spending £1 billion on a total redevelopment on the current site. A stand by stand approach would make far more sense that’s assuming there isn’t something already in train on the stalled Earls Court site which to be honest would be my preferred option and I suspect a far far cheaper one
