I am confused...IF by the end of the season:

...we would HAVE to say Sarri has been a success right? Surely we all would have taken that at the start of the season?

They’d have bitten your hand off.

Sarri's done awful!1!1!1
Took over a team in 5th place that scraped a trophy in the FA Cup.
  • Lost a final on penalties to one of the best Premier League teams OAT.
  • Likely to finish 4th
  • Likely to reach another final which we could easily win

Oh! So you think we can EASILY win the Europa league?

If Liverpool finish second but also go on to win the CL, it will have been one heck of a good season for Klopp and his team.
Let's just hope it doesn't happen!

We could easily win it. We have to play a German team who have a worse points record than us in an easier league and potentially Arsenal, who don't look like they can beat anyone at the moment.

Will it be easy? No. But we could easily win it. It's quite easy to imagine us winning the Europa league. We are the best team left in the competition.

I think you don't understand the phrase "we could easily win".

Quite... “could” being the operative word perhaps?

and of course by this logic we could just as easily crash out on Thursday. Eintracht could easily score 2-3 goals against us being at home, as we conceded 2 to Burnley and 3 to Slavia Prague at SB. Would we recover from a 2-0 defeat out there. Questionable. Yes we could easily win, we could also just as easily flop massively as we have shown consistently all season, sometimes with both extremes during the same match.

I have no idea how you deem losing the League Cup Final to be a greater achievement than winning the FA Cup (which, lest we forget, is a far more significant trophy)...

Yeah I agree. We could easily lose and come 5th in the league.

We have a maximum 5 games left and it could be a disaster or a great season.

FA Cup campaign:  2017-18

R3: Norwich 0-0 Chelsea

Chelsea 1-1 Norwich (5-3 pens)

R4: Chelsea 3-0 Newcastle

R5: Chelsea 4-0 Hull

QF: Leicester 1-2 Chelsea (a.e.t.)

SF: Chelsea 2-0 Southampton

Final: Chelsea 1-0 Manchester United

Tell me, of those teams, how many were top top teams last season? Only 1.

League Cup 2018-19:

R3: Liverpool 1-2 Chelsea

R4: Chelsea 3-2 Derby

QF: Chelsea 1-0 Bournemouth

SF: Leg 1: Spurs 1-0 Chelsea

Leg 2: Chelsea 2-1 Spurs (PENS: 4-2)

Final: Chelsea 0-0 Manchester City (PENS: 3-4)

The FA Cup is of course the thing you would rather win, but to imply the FA Cup was a result of anything other than pure luck based on the teams we got, and winning the final with a penalty despite getting dominated the entire game. It's the exact same reason why I don't especially credit Sarri for our Europa League performances so far. Of course, most anti-Sarri are quick to point out our fixtures and some even claim that Conte is a superior manager to Sarri, but how does this logic hold when they said nothing last season?

It's outstanding that my use of the word easily is the only thing you can say about that post, almost comical in fact.

But to answer your question...it's just a figure of speech, I did not mean we would dominate Arsenal in any sense, but we could beat them on the day. We also might easily lose. It's a game I wouldn't be surprised if we won and I think we have a good chance of winning, especially considering the run that Arsenal is on at the moment, although of course Frankfurt are doing very well in the Bundesliga so we may not get into the final whatsoever.

Conte is a winner, he won the FA Cup final vs Jose that before that final had an amazing record, in that final his tactic worked.

Sarri won Liverpool and Spurs good job, but it doesn't matter since he lost in the final, while trying to play almost like Conte played, it didn't work.

Conte is a superior manager, no doubt about it.

I honestly think it'll depend on whether we make the CL/win Europa even then Benitez didn't get the job after doing both of those things.

I'm still very much on the fence about whether to continue with him. I think we should do what is fair but I don't think he is the man to make successful and I have thought that since he was appointed. If Max Allegri became available in the summer we'd be silly to watch that pass.

I reckon they will, to much pace and energy for Barca, they aren't the Barca of 5 plus years ago

That fa cup final was the first final conte had ever won.

You knew that right?

Conte is famously bad in cup competitions. The fa cup against united was the exception. Not the rule.

To be honest, I will be shocked if Liverpool eliminate Barca. I know Barca ain't as good as they used to be but Messi always give then that edge over any team.

So it was Conte's first cup win. How about the league? How about how well he did with a very average Italy side?

You're surely NOT contesting that Conte is a superior manager to Sarri? If you are I'd be curious to know what you're basing it on.

I know that there is some desperation on here by some (including myself) hoping that Liverpool don't win the CL. But the harsh fact is, they are the best team left in the competition. Barcelona are a very good side, but they are not the Barcelona of old. And I'd go as far as saying that this Liverpool team would give the old Barcelona a run for their money.

All we can do is pray hard to the football god, that good prevails and the Scouse get hammered!

You want Allegri here? If you thought we were boring to watch under Jose & Conte, try & catch a Juve game.

Conte has a better CV than Sarri, not contesting that.

Conte for me was a great manager but not right for Chelsea. Bringing him up is mindless. He won us the league by playing a system not seen before in England that worked. He didn't know how to follow that up when teams figured us out. He didn't know how to get the best out of an ageing side long term and he advocated transfers that left us damaged long term.

None of the above impacts on my thoughts on Sarri. But there is a reason Conte isn't our manager anymore.

How many of those players would walk into the Barca team? Maybe 2; Van Dijk & one of Mane/Salah. From afar Suarez looks like a weak link upfront but he has notched 21 league goals this season and 25 last seasons

No they won’t, and they are not even close to the Barca of 5yrs who. How dare you even compare both? Barca cleaned up trophywise, this side haven’t won anything. Until they start winning trophies regularly they are on par with Spurs for me.
