Fikayo Tomori

Featured Replies

Problem will always be we are producing quality players from the youth academy who can be brought into the first team.

Guehi/Colwill/Mbuyamba are coming through and therefore the likes of Tomori will struggle to hold down a spot in terms of longevity coming back as well as our current players and future signings.

We have the same issue at CF/ST with Abraham/Giroud/Broja etc and CM/CAM with Barkley/RLC and Anjorin/Future signings.

Ake was similar to Tomori but in the longer term view the board/manager decided to take the decision. I reckon Tomori will have a chat with Tuchel and then a decision will be made.

As much as we want him to succeed at Chelsea, there are only that many spots in the team. Who do we sell to keep him? I wouldn't trade Rudiger, Christensen or even Zouma right now to get Tomori back. We will get a decent fee for him, hopefully there's a buy back or first option clause attached.

I would have Tomori in the squad over Zouma. Zouma too me isn't that great on the ball and looks really shaken at times.

Would Tomori want that though? First team at Milan or 4th choice at Chelsea. No brainer to me. What I am surprised by is that Man United aren't dropping in a £30m+ bid to us to test resolve. They could do with Tomori in their team

I'd sell Zouma and bring in Guehi for the squad next year. I'd also look at whether there is a top top CB on the market as a replacement for Silva the year after next. I'd be very happy with a squad of Rudi + AC + Silva/new CB + Guehi.

Good player there. Will blossom well if he learned the ways of Maldini and Nesta.

Hope we have buyback clauses installed. It would suck if City/Utd/Liverpool bought him in 3 years

Yep, officially confirmed:

I'm quite disappointed with this as I rate him very highly. This also leaves us with Silva (who is 36 this year) and Zouma as our only capable back-four centre backs. Christensen, Rüdiger and Azpilicueta (when not at full-back) are all back-three specialists and Guéhi only has senior experience in a back three. Guess we'll be playing that going forward?

Who do you think has a higher ceiling? Tomori or Guéhi?

I am gutted he's gone. I think Frank got it wrong in letting him go, and the club made a mistake in allowing AC an option to buy, although I did read somewhere that Tomori himself insisted upon said clause.

Good luck anyway Fikayo.

I honestly haven't seen enough of Guéhi to be able to give any real judgement although he does look very good.

He was actually top class with AC these past few months, I cant stress how good he's been. He was generally very good for us too, although there were the odd mistakes here and there. It was clearly a mistake for us to sell him, or at least for that cheap, and I don't know why it got so bad between him and Super Frank.

Either way hope he goes on to do well, good luck to the kid.

P.S. Both him and his father have come out in the last few days with lovely words for the Chelsea Fans

I'm upset we sold him cheap and didn't have a buy-back clause included. We can't keep everyone, whether it's a local lad or not. We have done a poor deal, provided he keeps up the form, probably one of the Manchester team will buy him for 50-60M in a year's time, then it looks like another KDB situation.

It's done and dusted so there is no point in me crying over it but.....

Silva is not a long term option, Kurt is a worry for me, I just always see a rick in him. Tomori the little I seen of him looked as if he was well worth investing a bit more time in.

If he is good enough or potentially at the very least we've made a balls of it. I dont see the point in developing academy players if the majority of the time we loan them out, buy in experienced players to occupy their positions and them sell them because there is no place for them.

All the best to Fikayo and his family, he seems like a humble man who has not bad mouthed the club or thrown digs along the way, good luck to him.

Income.

We've just made up to £30m on a player. Keep churning that out year on year and it's a good source of income for the club.

Connor Gallagher is being linked with a move to Palace for £15m so if that happened we'd have banked almost £50m on player sales from our academy that can then be reinvested into the first team.

I 100% get your point, I just don't get the bigger picture.

I'm thrilled to see us more recently using our academy regardless of why we had to. So we sell Tomori for £30 million (maybe it's Euros) just my opinion but I think he is worth more to us as a player to develop, particularly alongside Silva than that amount of money, which we now have to spend in excess of to buy in a player to replace Silva and Tomori.

I'm sure Tuchel has his reasons, and he has just guided us to champions league victory so I'm not as qualified as him to make assertions.

Tomori was gone with the buy out clause before Tuchel even stepped foot in Cobham.

Bigger picture being that on one hand you will have the odd sale like this which pays for the academy and can be reinvested elsewhere.

On the other hand you have genuine talent that comes through and is likely to serve the club at top level for 10+ years... Aka Mount / James / Christensen.

Chelsea run their academy impeccably and I don't think they have ever sold a player from the academy in regret. Sad about Tomori perhaps but not like we have just sold Mount for £20M to City...

Great to see Tomori get a permanent gig at a big club. Says alot that he is being picked over Romagnoli, who I think was the captain of Milan. Wish him all the best.

I'm not too worried, but it would have been nice to see what he could do under Tuchel. He seemed to play well in the back three in 2019-20.

Tomori played more outfield minutes than any other player at Milan during their title winning season.

We've fully pulled a Salah/De Bruyne level error here

No doubt one of our rivals will buy him in the years ahead too.
