Mason Mount

Featured Replies

The writing has been on the wall for months, we just didn't know which club. But he was obviously always going to go to a rival English club wasn't he?

Fair play to you Mason, you've been a superb talent for Chelsea and given us some great memories, I'm ashamed to say you've been given a lot of abuse when you never deserved it.

I like Mason, but I can also understand the transfer. For me he didn't really kick on after the CL win, decent last season but wasn't really on the same level, and this season he was just as poor as everyone else unfortunately. Time will tell if this makes us look like mugs or not. Nothing against Mason at all, but I hope he turns out to be a Juan Mata for Manchester United, and not a KDB or Salah situation.

Yah... shame he couldn't stay another year, maybe Pooch would have got him back on track.

Possibly so, but his mind is made up. If Frank, the very man who initially recognised Masons talent and moulded him into the player he is can't get him back in the team, I don't think Pochettino is.

Whatever Mason's reasons are (we have no idea) I don't hold any ill will towards the lad.

I can't see where Mason was going to play in the team unless its in place of Havertz, who in any case may not be playing.

He isnt going to get picked wide left instead of Sterling or Mudryck and he doesn't seem comfortable wide right.

I can't see us playing 4 out and out attackers ie we arent going to play a 6 and a central 10 and nor is he suited, as I once thought he might be, to a left midfield position in the Lampard role.

Like Havertz to an extent there is no natural position for him

Perhaps I am wrong about this but assuming Nkunku comes I'd be interested in a starting 11 that has Mount in it. Maybe in a year or two if Sterling really is past it, which I don't believe but not in the coming year barring injuries. Equally I think we have to accept that Sterling, Mount and Mudryck is one too many wide left players. Perhaps we shouldn't have bought Mudryck or Sterling but that ship has sailed...

No disrespect to Mount player of the season for a couple of years. However I probably thought Mourinho selling Mata was a bigger mistake although a similar kind of situation in my eyes.

My view is that although I love Mount. I do think he is replaceable. He provides 7/10 performances most weeks but rarely 10/10. He is a workhorse and tactically good but away his Cobham connection and there’s a frustrating player there.

This thread is a bit bizzare. Most of the argument is mount is not a superstar, so he is easily replaceable 🤣🤣🤣🤣

Mount has outplayed puli, kai, ziyech, timo, etc2. We have spent over 200m on those players and Mount has outplayed every single one of them so no he is not easily replaceable.

I wouldn’t agree he’s outplayed Havertz. Puli, ziyech, Timo certainly. But they are going or gone. I don’t think he will be replaced, at least I doubt we’ll buy anyone new  for his role. Comparing 200 m cumulative with the value of one player makes no sense at all.

tell me your best 11 this coming  season and where he plays? Not even sure where he will play at United. In place of Rashford? Or Fernandes? Maybe the latter.

It's interesting you say that, because when I looked at the data regarding minutes played per goal involvement at the end of last season, only Higuain of any attacking midfielder/forward we have had from 18/19 season to 21/22 season had a worse minutes per goal involvement than Mount.

So I wouldn't necessarily agree that Mount has outplayed all those names you mention.

What? Outside playing false 9,kai has been absolutely awful whereas Mount has excelled playing in all kind of position/role.

You can ignore the transfer fee, it doesn't matter. But we have signed, I don't know how many attackers since Mount first season (more if we include this season signing) and none of the has performed as well as mount.

Whose best 11? United best 11? I can't tell you as I have watched probably 5 united game this seasons.

See I just don’t agree havertz has been awful. Sure he’d  missed some  goals he should have scored but anyway this is  the Mason thread. I watch quite a lot of teams on tv, mostly just for comparison. These mini games of like 25 minutes mean you can watch 3 games in an hour. Helps me see where chels fits in, what players eg mitoma are standing out.

I am not even sure how to look at this stats because everyone above puli play as st.

Great to see Higuain holds the record. What a marvellous signing he was.

Man Utd have opened official talks with Chelsea for Mount. Mount has rejected 3 offers that would have put him in line with the highest earners with Chelsea insiders insisting the owners have done everything possible.

Many of these claims are disputed by sources close to Mount, who say money was not the primary reason that a contract extension hasn’t been agreed. (@TomRoddy_) #CFC

Chelsea insiders say salary and bonuses proved to be the major sticking point and insist the owners have done everything possible to keep Mount, but say the player has not wanted to engage and has left negotiations to his representatives. He has rejected offers so far from Chelsea.

Mount apparently wants to stay, so I don't understand why salary is a major sticking point. Surely he cannot claim to deserve a big salary increase after this season? The board offered a year extension and more money with an increase in salary in the near future on performances. That is what it comes across like to me. I don't see why that is so bad for Mount, especially if he wants to stay. To be honest, Mount hasn't signed a new contract since Abramovic was in charge, so I take what his side say with a pinch of salt. I reserve judgement though until we know more facts.

He signed his £80k/w contract in 2019.

A section of the media is saying he wants some guarantees regarding playing time & stability. I reckon the Felix move must have been the tipping point for him. He was relegated to the subs bench once Felix turned up.

True, but there are also 5 wingers above him in that table, including the three that everyone is totally on board with us selling !

Where has he done this?

Not sure if it's the red mist descended and clouding things but perhaps the use of "they" indicates I wasn't talking about Money Mase specifically there.

For some reason reminds me of No context football.

Replied to someone's comeents about footballers in general and I wasn't referring to Money Mase specifically, again, just for added clarity.

And his wages don't seem to have increased since then (while still under Abramovich and after having his arguably best season) so I don't understand what is going on. He's been out for a period of time this season. I imagine the board want to see how he performs next season before giving him a longer term contract.

I saw this:

I'm not seeing what is unfair about the above offer to Mount. If he genuinely wants to stay and be part of the project, accept it and improve your performances and fight to be a consistent starter. Then negotiate further if he has a good season next season. I personally believe he doesn't want to compete with Nkunku and feels he should be more valued given he's an academy player and one of Chelsea's better players a couple seasons ago.
